My GOODNESS, you HAVE to be an IDIOT to support free trade like Hillary does (fuck you if you think I'm supposed to believe she didn't know about Penn) and screw little guy America and then attack Obama on this issue!!!

Hillary is showing her lack of judgment on this issue.

It's all relative to one's situation.

What's really killing folks is the fact that they have equity loans on homes that have lost value.

And if a $ 40,000 loss represents 4% of a home's value, then that means the home was purchased for $ 1 million.

And that is an entirely different discussion.

Meaning why would someone hurt by NAFTA (I'm guessing a Union Member) be buying a $ 1 million home in the first place?

10. OMG you said it.
My DEM congresspuke brings up the "desperate need" for more H1B visas literally every time I go to see him speak. He's like a broken record with the shit. He's a nice guy but he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. 2000 people just got laid off from high tech jobs in his own district and hundreds more are soon to follow. But these tech CEOs are up his ass crying about how they just can't find engineers to work for 35000 a year with no benefits. Who speak Urdu (or whatever "crucial" skill they claim to need).

Oh and FUCK YOU BILL GATES for having that conference where you called upon Washington to increase HIBs for TEN FUCKING YEARS!!! Bad enough you had to fuck everyone with Vista now you want to put every American out of a job. :grr:

...then when they found out the M&E cycles were too slow for enterprise efforts they want to big number of visas!!!

That issues is hurting middle and upper middle Americans, this offshoring shit was and is not a good deal.

and I wish Gate would STFU too!

17. Free trade isn't necessarily a bad thing
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 08:09 PM by davidpdx
I think it's a matter of making sure the deal is a little more fair in terms of protecting US jobs. With so many poor countries in this world, it is clear that companies will keep moving their factories where they can take advantage of the cheapest labor they can find. Right now places like China, India and Vietnam are on the top of the list.

One of the problems is that US companies don't make things (TV's, computers, etc) as much as they used to. Most of the time they might be assembled in the US, but the parts come from places where things can be made the cheapest.

For the last four years I've been living in South Korea. There are some issues that I would like to see resolved between Korea and the US, mainly importing US beef again. Not only do US farmers benefit from being able to sell their beef, but Koreans (including those of us expats living here) benefit from lower beef prices. Not to mention I miss having a good steak.

25. Funny, if you actually knew what you were talking about
you'd actually sound intelligent. Sadly you aren't.

The beef here is mostly either Korean or Australian beef.

Since there is very little land, raising cows for meat isn't a high priority.

26. I was referring to the very bad effects of "free" trade on Korean farmers
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/sep/16/northkorea.wto

He took a patch of harsh mountain land and turned it into a thriving farm. But when Korea was flooded with foreign imports he was ruined - and last week, during the world trade talks, Lee Kyung-hae plunged a knife into his heart. Jonathan Watts on one man's struggle against the system

27. It is certainly a sad story, but suicide is a choice
and a very bad one at that. However, keeping the price of beef and rice artificially high to protect farmers, whether in Korea or in the US (which is where I am from) is not the answer. That is what protectionism is all about. I actually live in North Cholla Province which has lots of farms. Instead of buying produce at the store, we buy most of our produce from street market vendors (usually little old ladies selling produce) or at traditional markets. The reason why we do this is: 1) Because the produce is cheaper and 2) Because the money is going directly to the farmer rather then the store taking 1/2 or more of the money it costs to buy the item. It certainly is a better way to support farmers then jacking up prices because the country bans imports.

I support Obama, but don't necessarily agree with him on free-trade.

29. What about the artificial subsidies of our government to factory farming?
I think when it comes to food security, any country is entitled to protect it by any means necessary.
