All you Weak Democrats, get out of the Way! We are going to be talking truth from this point on!
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 09:10 PM by FrenchieCat
If you are not going to make it possible for our candidates to have an honest discussion with the American people during election time, after 8 fucked up years of having to deal with the likes of George Bush, then get out of the MFcking way.
The time is done for threading softly while wearing your pink TuTus.

The American people have plenty to be bitter about!
And yes, our government has been sucking for years and years now.
If you think that some can't handle these truths, then you don't know the American people.

Since you've been cowed into worrying about what the Republicans think First, sounds like you've got a bigass problem; namely, that you are exactly the type of Democrat that will lose us the election in November.

You'll fight dirty in attacking a politicians on petty nothings if you must, but you don't want the American people to have a real discussion about the truth. You follow the media around like they are your mother, hanging onto their every word as though they made you; as they tell you what to think and what to be outraged about.
Face it! You are weak!

So please get out of the way.....because you are not part of the solution to our problems,
but instead, you are a bigass part of the problem.

We, the brave Fighting Democrats are BITTER AND we know it, and no amount of fretting and drama coming from you is going to make us forget it!

YES, We are.........
Bitter for paying for a war that should have never been fought.
Bitter to watch our Soldiers fall in vain.
Bitter to know that homeless soldiers exists.
Bitter for all of the cuts made to our education system.
Bitter for being fleeced by predatory lenders.
Bitter by watching CEO make more in a year than most Americans make in a lifetime.
Bitter for watching jobs being shipped overseas via NAFTA and CAFTA and CHINA Trade, etc....
Bitter for China owning us in so many ways.
Bitter watching our politicians play gotcha politics that solves nothing, and a willing paid media that helps them do it.
Bitter because our media dwells on non news and keeps from us from knowing what we should know.
Bitter for watching our Civil liberties being chipped away bit by big bit.
Bitter in watching the cost of college education go sky high.
Bitter for what we have to pay in medical premiums, if we can even afford insurance.
Bitter that dental coverage is not part of "medical".
Bitter because we cannot save any money, although we are told that this is what we do be doing.

And you know what else?

WE ARE READY FOR A MOTHERFUCKING CHANGE!

Yes we are, and Yes we can!

Now, go hide, Weak Democrats....we'll let you know when the danger has passed, and when it safe for you to come out and start talking shit about nothing again.

Fighting Democrats, it's time to write to the media. Let them know how bitter you are, and why what Sen. Obama said is exactly how you feel. WE are tired of the media elitist telling us how we should feel and piling on those who speak for us.

329. Not so great post.... Emotional but weak...
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 04:23 PM by Johnny Battleground
...Because it failed to address the real weakness. Obama.

He spoke a fine game had soaring rhetoric and then we had in succession: Wright, Michelle, Rezko, and now this.
His entire foundation was blown apart by his longtime association with Wright.
The contradiction is too great, and his lapses too unbelievable.

So I'm one bitter camper. Why? Because a weak and flawed candidate made it this far.
Edwards was 10 times the candidate Obama is, but the vetting of Obama came too late.
The questions came too late.
Now the shit is in the pants.

I'm not bitter, I'm pissed.
Really, really pissed.
Ultra bitter.

Obama will get no passes when the real battle begins.
He's weak, and that's the problem.
Huge.

366. Think this through...
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 04:48 AM by Johnny Battleground
Remember the initial thread stated that weak democrats should piss off.
I thought it was a message to Obama... because...

... Obama does not have a prayer.
On our side OK, he'll score votes, but our side isn't enough to win.
Obama had a three legged stool he was using to surge ahead.
1. Hope
2. Change
3. Unity

The emergence of Wright knocked them all out with a vast majority of voters we need to win.
Obama made a nice speech about race but did not address the issue of Wright.
This lecturing pissed off a lot of people. It's something that sticks.
Obama sat in that church for 20 years. People we need to win over aren't buying his "I didn't hear it" crapola.

You don't here Hope, Change or Unity anymore. I wonder why.
Obama is sitting on the floor with the legs of his stool kicked out from under him.
Now what?

His wife echoed Wright in her statements. Not good with the swing voters we need.
Rezko hasn't been brought up much, but it looks bad.
His latest guns and church as a crutch bit also adds to the lead sinking his ship.

If Obama wins the nomination, McCain wins.
Obama is badly damaged, and has a thin record.
So, getting over it is something you have to do.

Obama should have been vetted.
He built up a big lead... OK, but then the dogs were released, and they got red meat.

Now what? Send out Mr. Weak, a guy who hasn't a prayer?

86. hillary is a manager and she doesn't do that well....
Senator Obama, on the other hand, is a leader!!!!!!!

He has vision, he can see the bigger picture, he can think out-of-the box (he certainly proved THAT this evening), he is a communicator, he establishes trust through his remarkable ability to position himself on the right side of the people's concerns, he takes charge, he empowers others, he is courageous, he is daring, he is imaginative, he is acknowledging and shares our uncertainty, he embraces error and learns from his mistakes, he is interpersonally competent (listens, nutures, copes with value conflicts), he makes his position very clear,he has the capaicty to translate intentions into reality, he is committted and credible, he is....but you get the idea...none of these are qualities that either hillary or mcsame possess...

221. He votes "present" or pretends he is sick, so he does not have to make a decision
He waited for the fall out of Clinton's position on the Olympics. He has no stance that is his own. He depends fully on what others tell him, becasue he does not have the depth of knowledge that Clinton has.

It is a shame that Americans are so superficial that we just go for the one who talks perrty.

The way our IT venture is slowing down so much, barely any work for us to fix computers. So we're taking on a new business that has been slow in growing, and could get new monies if it wasn't for people losing their jobs, but it's paying the bills right now.

I am also on SSDI, which barely helps thanks to Chimp's idea of COLA to being around 2% raises, when it needs to be much more, like 40-50% annual COLA raises.

Wife works, and she really does not want to work.

So hell yes, I am a purple state ready to go fuckin' blue - Colorado is losing jobs like crazy and being offshored to other states for cheap wages. Hello?

And hell yes, I'm bitter.

...then gathering again once they get a glimpse of you & camp clinton--to rain, sleet, and hail all over you. Then the celestial choirs will sing.

How freaking dare you suggest that hope and unity are a good thing after you have backed Hillary who has openly mocked those very concepts. Step off.

51. It's unfortunate that some put a person above the ideals of the party,
but that's your right.

If Obama is the nominee and you choose to support the party's candidate, I won't ever hold your current loyalties against you.

If you choose not to, you'll have to deal with that decision yourself.

Regardless of the outcome of the primaries, I'll vote for the Dem because even Clinton, regardless of how much I dislike her, is better than McCain.

If we are afraid of drawing clear distinctions between the Democratic and republican party we don't deserve to win an election. If we are afraid of making a stand because the republicans will disagree with us we don't deserve to win an election. If we decide its best to go along to get along we don't deserve to win an election. Its time someone starts telling truth to power and today was a good start.

Thanks for being honest.

Sometimes, I'm not sure if voters are more interested in having people speak to them and make them feel as if though everything is A-OK, and not really understand that the same people that are pandering to them are those that are harming them most by the policies they've implemented.

A part of me wishes that I could just film all of the American communities that have been decimated by back-door trade deals (all of the closed textile mills and steel mills, etc.), attacks on public education, declining tax bases, failing small mom and pop businesses (because Wal-Mart invades their communities), all because politicians (Democrats and Republiccans) pandered to them to make them feel that everything was A-OK.

Obama called both of the $100+ millionaires on their bullshit, and this is going to give him yet another opportunity to expose them.

I was at others, though not Chicago. No disagreement about the police riots. The bottom reason for my comment was that the Republican, Nixon, was elected. The harsh rhetoric from our side didn't bring GE results.

67. It's pretty breathtaking watching Hillary run like a Republican against Barack.
It is almost as if she has a tacit accord with the perpetrators of the vast rightwing conspiracy when she kissed the ring of Scaife and with the access she gives slime like Drudge and Faux News. It is almost as if she choreographs her attacks on Barack with the wingnuts.

When he stands as the Democratic nominee, nobody can say he didn't earn it. He's taking them both on barely breaking a sweat.

Looking forward to Barack delivering a long overdue GOP ass-kicking in November.

71. We do have a leader
Unfortunately, we also have a corrupt electoral system. So. Who knows? The right person who wants to take this country back to where it should be or the corruptors who don't give a shit? Who has the power? Who has the voting machines? It's not the people. I firmly believe that if there is any question about this next election being fair, there will be an uprising and, hopefully, another revolution that Jefferson said we should have. Our Founding Fathers had no intention of things being static (contrary to Scalia). They fully expected there to be changes a/k/a revolutions in approximately every generation. They put their lives and fortunes on the line and they would consider us (we, the people) as being weinies (sorry, I couldn't think of another word) for going along to get along with Bush & Co. This is not the country they envisioned. Most of the Founding Fathers were merchants or professionals of some sort and risked their lives, their livelihood and their families to give us a country we've just thrown away in eight years. Jeeze. That's less time between the Revolutionary War, the Contintental Congress and George Washington's election!!!! God. If they weren't already dead, they'd want to be.

335. let's get one thing straight here
If your going to preach to us Obama supporters about how to exercises Hope and Unity, maybe you should start with your own campaign first! This piece that was written obviously states that we have been trying to get you Hillary supporters to join us in Unity but instead, you all choose to take the low road by spinning anything you can get your hands on to further divide us. Either join us with "Unity" or get the fuck out of the way, that's really what it comes down to.
Before you start preaching morals to the ones that have started this message in the first place, apply them to yourself and Hillary's campaign first.
(that goes for you to Clinton, stop the spinning and understand the meaning behind what Obama was trying to get at.)

76. Most Americans are righteously PISSED OFF!
Our government has been screwing the average citizen since the rethuglcans got control of Congress, years ago.

They made Jesus a republican and any who opposed their war against the poor and middle class a heathen, an anti american traitor.

What we have witnessed is a fascist take-over of our government, pure and simple. Wrapped in the flag and soaked in the blood of farm-boys and poor city kids with no other future available to them except fighting and dying for Dick Cheney's bank account.

When they took over, America had small or no deficits, a surplus of good paying jobs for all and we were not invading and threating countries to force "democracy" on them either.

Look what Bush and his party have done! My God, its so sad!

Its enough to make a sane person weep. They have destroyed most of the good things in this country and set us on the road to ruin.

I believe they have finally destroyed Social Security and Medicaid. Its probably to late to save them now. So a long cherished rethug dream has come true.

Everything is failing now. Jobs, housing, stock market, the recession takes its grip around our throats as the price of food and gas spiral out of control.

Higher education is just a dream to many now and even many jobs that require a collage education are being out sourced overseas.

The only political hope I have left Is Barack Obama and his movement. I hope he gets his chance.

There is no other politician that gives a damn about the average american.

Hillary and her husband take blood money from south american fascists to run their campaign and rammed NAFTA down our throats. They are the problem not the solution.

We live in interesting times....

* Why no impeachment?

* Why vote for the war, for torture, and for shitcanning our privacy?

* Are our Presidential candidates getting illegal funding from the same Saudis who supported the terrorists, like Georgie did and nobody wants to ask about?

* Who's gonna pay for this war? This economic depression? Bailing out the people who caused it?

* Who financed September 11, and are you willing to support the death penalty in the case of George Bush and Dick Cheney if they were involved?

* If McCain doesn't get close enough to steal it, are our people going to use the same trick to keep stealing it themselves?

See? We don't really want to talk about the truth, either.

87. Thank you! I feel more and more estranged from Hillary as this goes on
I can't believe she "heard" Obama's statement and found it condescending.

Who IS this woman? She's not who I thought she was.

(I'm pretty pissed about Hillary and her spokespersons picking at the Wright scab among other things.)

100. You are ignoring other parts of Obama's comments
Obama said people without jobs cling to religion.

Is religion bad? Do employed people not cling to religion?

There is more to Obama's comment than the "bitter" part.

Here is the direct quote from the transcript,

"And they take refuge in their faith and their community and their families
and things they can count on. But they don’t believe they can count on Washington."

Not even close!

I realize you are a newbie here, but you will see that if you claim
someone SAID something- we will look for the direct quote.

That animal doesn't exist here.

So please, no more false claims, OK?

295. Time for you to learn a bit about logical argumentation
People without jobs, people losing their homes, people sick and without medical insurance, hungry desperate people; often do turn to religion when there is appears to be no other solution. "Please G_d, help me." That doesn't mean that ONLY desperate people turn to religion. That is a non-sequitor..

It would be like saying that since all dogs are animals, it follows then that all animals are dogs.

....it's obviously clear the high intelligence within an Obama supporter when debating or within argumentation.....Hillary supporters seem to be seething so much over her not having this nomination handed to her like they expected that now they SHAKE with anger as thay TRY to find SOMETHING they can distort or bring out of context.

VERY Well said, SANDER! :applause:

Some of these Hillary supporters need to gain some dignity and at least try harder to prevent us from debunking the spinning of their accusations....morons.

Come on Hillary supporters, as you hide behind Hillary's cloak of lies and distortion, at least try to make her look better!

p.s.
and might I add, if a Hillary supporter is going to start giving lessons on the message of HOPE we've brought to this campaign to Obama supporters, maybe they should start with their OWN campaign and morals first....very contradicting....it's like hearing a murderer preach to you how bad it is to kill.... :evilfrown:

133. The Republicans
need to understand that our enemies will not think we will have lost in defeat if we pull out of Iraq.. The truth is when we pull out of Iraq our real enemies will begin to worry again because they will know the focus will be put back on them again. But while we are depleting our resources in Iraq our enemies are happy to see us wasting away our valuable resources... (A major key to the Art of War is to make your enemy use up their resources unnecessarily.) Really, look it up... If we had enough really skilled leaders running the military, they would know this...

If you are a democrat, you need to know what is causing so many to vote for McCain... The Idea that we can't lose in Iraq.... We haven't lost in terms of military battles. No military solution remains... We have been hearing for 4 years how when the Iraqi army stands up, we'll stand down.... And after 500,000 trained Iraqi soldiers later, we still don't have an idea of when we will start standing down... This is bullshit. The Iraqis are capable of handling their own matters more so than we give them credit for.

If the security situation in Iraq does not bring about solid progress in the political front within the next 6 months, then our soldiers coming home will not be the cause of lack of progress in Iraq. At which point all Americans who truly care for the welfare of our troops, and this nation must vote to bring our troops home...

We have already won...

Hillary is a great role model for my daughters and granddaughters...untrustworthy, dishonest and lacking in integrity. Neither my wife, daughters, granddaughters nor sisters, are taking stock in her BS. This is, should be obvious, not misogyny nor sexism...just the plain and simple truth.

153. I have no problem with -- in fact I agree with the "bitter" word -- BUT
I wish he hadn't gone on to state that it makes people "cling" to guns and religion. Unfortunately, this remark could be construed to mean that he has a condescending attitude toward people who are religious -- despite his own professed faith.

I'm not angry or upset with him. I just feel that it was a goof, a goof I wish he hadn't made.

166. Yeah but,
a lot of very sick people posting in that WSJ article.

I'm bitter because we have so many uneducated people in our country. Unbelievable. Again, a big segment of Hillary's demographic. This is very sickening.

C'mon Barack, put a rush on educational funds. It is sorely needed.

I only harbor one prejudice, ignorance and stupidity. Or is that two?

Education begins in the home...by the parents. Educate the young people today so that they might become good parents and educate their offspring. Is there no hope for the uneducated 40+ today? And please, that wasn't a broad brush stroke. Many of us in our forties, plus, plus, plus, are educated...just not enough numbers. And yes, not restricted to the 40+...just on a smaller scale.

Hillary's support, considering her poll ratings in re honesty, trustworthiness and integrity is a testament to moral degradation.

Enough said, standing down from the soapbox.

274. "Hillary's support . . . is a testament to moral degradation." You hurt your own
candidate with nasty swipes at Hillary supporters, whose votes your candidate will need in the general election. I'm sure Obama doesn't appreciate this kind of support.

Neither candidate is an angel. Neither is the devil. Thoughtful, mature adults can disagree, but the Rush Limbaugh types want to paint everything in extremes.

Say whatever you want about Bush, criticize the Democrats ON THE ISSUES, but when you personally slam all the SUPPORTERS of other Democrats, you are hurting the whole party.

1, I'm sure that we can all agree that Hillary's polling in re honesty and integrity is not enviable.

2. I'm a registered republican voting for Obama, no Obama than I shall vote for McCain. McCain is a great American and a hero, but we're the same age and we old duffers tend to have lapses of memory. However, it would be a cold day in hell before I would ever vote Clinton. So you see, I have a valid excuse. If no Obama than vote McCain.

Hillary is speaking in Valparaiso, Indiana at this moment. Careful, I see snipers in the audience...she'd better be ducking for cover.

In short, my only concern for YOUR party is to get Obama elected. I voted for JFK, about to vote for HOPE again.

Like it or not, Hillary is the epitome of hypocrisy. And whether you or Hillary believe it...she IS out of the race. The MSM is keeping her in to boost their ratings.

So democrats, I apologize for raining on your parade. If you want my support for Obama you have it. However, if, though not possible, Hillary would be your candidate I can assure that I'll be at the top of the list to sweep her under the bus. You just might be surprised how many fellow republicans are of the same mind...you shouldn't be.

I think that she just mispronounced Valparaiso...but she's known for many "mis'."

"I didn't say it as well as I should have," Obama conceded before a crowd in Muncie, Ind., this morning, as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republicans prepared to hammer him for a second day.

SNIP

But Obama campaign officials worry more about the guns and religion references as ripe GOP fodder that could haunt their candidate if he wins the Democratic nomination. Essentially, Obama was describing Reagan Democrats, the ultimate general election swing voters.

As Obama acknowledged this morning, his mistake was to suggest that many small-town values are formed by cynicism. "You know the truth. It is that these
traditions that are passed on from generation to generation, those are important. That's what sustains us," he told the Muncie audience.

But he added, "what is absolutely true is that people don't feel like they are being listened to. And so they pray and they count on each other and they count on their families. You know this in your own lives and what we need is a government that is actually paying attention. Government that is fighting for working people day in and day out making sure that we are trying to allow them to live out the American dream."

162. "Bitter" is a weak and petty word
Had Obama or the OP said angry, it would have made sense, but "bitter" is usually associated with people who are unforgiving and don't take their share responsibility for problems. Bitter people commonly blame immigrants, Jews, blacks, and others for their problems. It's not a nice word, and not one that can be spun.

He understood why residents of towns hard hit by manufacturing job losses would feel bitter.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama was quoted as saying by the Huffington Post.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

At a town hall meeting on Friday, Obama said he made the comment because some supporters heard he was having trouble attracting working-class voters. He was trying to say he empathized with them.

164. So true. I'm damned tired of the media trying to tell me what is important and what isn't.
I didn't care how much John Edwards' haircut cost.
I didn't care how much John Edwards' house cost.

I cared about Elizabeth's health status!
That's what I wanted to read about.
But, the media didn't care about that!
They didn't care that millions of other Americans have been affected by cancer, too!
They didn't want to tell us whether Elizabeth was alright or not.
"It didn't get good ratings."

They weren't interested in her as a human interest story once John dropped out of the race.
Her health status didn't get them big attention-getting headlines to sell newspapers with.

The media didn't care about Elizabeth's health condition, and they don't care about ours.
"Just get a good headline" so as to compete with the Enquirer.
That's all they care about.
They don't care about people.

They don't care about the troops.
They publish the numbers of the fallen as if they are stock ticker numbers.
They don't care.
They don't realize those numbers were people, that are now dead.

They don't care.

Let's say you've...

religion, guns, abortion?

What SHOULD be most important to you.
These others are the DISTRACTIONS Obama was talking about--the issues that keep people from voting in accordance with their economic interests.

UPDATE: The Clinton campaign emailed around harsh comments from two Republican pundits:

Grover Norquist: 'That sentence will lose him the election... He just announced to rural America: I don't like you.' "Grover Norquist, the anti-tax activist who leads an influential weekly meeting of conservatives, went as far as to argue that Obama's line would cost Democrats the White House. 'That sentence will lose him the election,' Norquist told ABC News. 'He just announced to rural America: 'I don't like you.'"

Republican strategist Ed Rollins: Q: "On a scale of 1 to 10 how damaging is this?" Rollins: 'Ten.'

I find the fact that they are using Norquist as an argument UNBELIEVABLE. Low, "inappropriate", and just plain stupid.

I was a high school junior in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic Convention, when I saw establishment Democrats, like then Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley unleash clubs and tear gas on anti-war protesters. Establishment Democrats have always served to obstruct meaningful change in both Party and Nation. They say they support us, while voting with the other side. Only when the Neo-cons and their fellow-travelers in the Democratic Party are driven from office and onto the ash-heap of history occupied by Tories and Know Nothings, will America return to being a country "by", "for", and "of" the people!

204. I am bitter too!!!
I am bitter that our government sits on its hands and lets the Bush administration commit crimes against the nation, I am bitter that my children may not have a future of prosperity for themselves, I am bitter that government has spent the SS trust fund and I have no ideal how I am going to retire in the most expensive country in the world.

I am bitter real wages are falling while the cost of everything is going up, I am bitter that the quality of education is not as good as it was when I went to school, I am bitter that I can't provide health care for my family...no need to go on, there are way to many valid reasons to be bitter about to list. I want change and I want real and meaningful change, not just symbolic.

I want Washington scrubbed of politicians of the past that worked for their pocket books and wall street interests, while systematically devastating main street. It's time for change and a good start begins with Barack Obama and concludes with putting like minded and in touch people in congress, state and local goverment....we need this power revolution to put the power back in our hands, where goverment will once again look out for mainstreet as their top priority. It is way past time to shed the politics of the past. Change is happening all across America and it is a beautiful thing...Yes we can take back our government and country and those lobbyist, elitest, corporate cronies, are unable to stop us, because in numbers, we have WAY more power than you.

God bless

Know them by the company they keep. Hillary & the Republican establishment are all singing from the same page in the songbook.

Hell, "bitter" is mild word for how I've felt these past 40 years of Republican rule leavened by the occasional conservative and crippled Democrat.

They're survivors when everything around them is burnt to a crisp.

Tamaracks are another of my favorites.

280. Yeh--Tamarack. Slow growing, mostly a swamp tree, although
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 01:38 PM by Jackpine Radical
I've seen a few growing on high ground. I love the soft, golden iridescence of a tamarack swamp in the light of a late fall afternoon in the north woods. And tamarack wood burns hot. Like, you can burn your stove out with that stuff.

And the 2 things about jackpines that impress me the most are that they'll grow in sandy barrens where hardly anything else can make a living, and they have little rock-hard, fire-resistant cones that the heat of a forest fire causes to open, leaving them to seed the charred ground and produce the next generation, getting a jump on everything else. Jackpines were evolved to capitalize on adversity.

Bad analogy, but they are practicing old fashioned, but safe and proven methods in the old political paradigm. Obama is using a new outside the box visionary paradigm: TRUTH!

McCain and Hillary are congenitally incapable of playing in that arena.

Of course, the rest of our Dem's will probably denounce Obama per the instructions of the minority Republicans. But these spineless automatons aren't running for President!

She is such an opportunist. She has lost but still insists on tearing down Obama more then the GOP is doing. Now Obama has already won so he does not need to acknowledge Clinton's rants, lies, and out of touch reality. It is a waste for him to respond to her flaps and he needs her voters support. She knows this and is taking advantage of his good nature.

277. Bitter that we have been robbed. Period.
Those that do not see this are either blind, asleep, or part of the robbery.
We no longer have the luxury of indulging in 'truthiness', it is time to reclaim the truth as we once knew it. A rich cartel of extremists robbed America of the trillion dollar surplus left in the Treasury in 2000, this was our hard earned tax dollars we put there in trust of our government to use to serve us! Instead they used this money to empower themselves and for violence and aggression, without our consent, in fact, in spite of our mass protests.
The two last elections were stolen, and we still have electronic machines that can steal the next one. Democrats must unite to assure that this does not happen, McCain will finish this country off.
The upcoming "recession' or 'depression' is not a mystery but a direct result of being robbed of our money, lives and infrastructure. Period. We have to stop allowing and enabling the smokescreen of false words to cloud the issues.
Straight talk McCain???? America has awaken, we've got your straight talk right here!!!!

This post is spot on. Democrats need to have the COURAGE of their own convictions. We need to be able to stand up for what we believe and fight back. A big misconception is that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are fighters. They're not -- they're appeasers. They respond to GOP attacks by giving in, throwing overboard people and ideas when there's a political cost involved, triangulating away the hopes of people they're supposed to be championing. Enough of that. Obama is really willing to take up the fight and that's big reason a lot of people are excited about him.

310. Obama backed away from his comments
I guess that puts him in the weak democrat category.

anyone who comes and tells us yokels he's figured us out is full of crap. Obama realized this and made a much better and more true statement today.

320. He was correct......for the most part......
but he was man enough to understand that some folks will take it the wrong way, especially with Hillary, who has become a Republican, piling on with her inane GOP framing. Instead of empowering the exact circumstances of Americans, she's only telling them that they need to roll up their sleeves, like that will help them. :eyes:

So yeah, he acknowledges that he may have offended some folks, even if he was on target was to why folks are bitter with the government giving them the shaft (including the Clinton's NATA love affair) and how they cling to their values because they have nothing else.

The truth hurts, but Voters have 10 days to think about what Obama actually said, and they can decide to stay offended at what is obvious to most of us (that they have indeed been beaten down), or they can decide that the same ol' same ol' ain't working for them, and that they deserve something better. It is their choice. We'll see if Americans get the government they deserve based on being offended or if they will wake up and smell the coffee, and indeed acknowledge the truth.

326. I agree
people do have time to think about what he said and I think the importance will fade in that time.

I do have to disagree on a couple of things. One is that Obama is the one responsible for what he said. This is one issue that does not really have anything to do with Hillary.

The other is that I think you have the trade thing backwards. Obama lumps "anti-trade sentiment" in with the other dysfunctional small-town stuff.

A politically better statement maybe. His first statement is true as it stands. I've studied the religions, and cultures of many parts of the world, Including the Middle East. I've visited those areas of the world that I've studied. Not as a tourist, I lived among them. I know firsthand what happen to people when they lose faith in their government, when they lose all hope for a better future, when they can't find a decent job, or can't even summon enough money to get married.

Violence, going to the extremes in their religion, depression, fortune telling, and in some cases blowing themselves up, the symptoms vary.

Edit: Typo

318. no, his comments today were much better
much more respectful of small-town folks:

"I didn't say it as well as I should have," he said. "But what is absolutely true is that people don't feel like they are being listened to. And so they pray and they count on each other and they count on their families."

Seeking to defuse the damage among blue-collar Democrats essential to his chances in upcoming primaries in Pennsylvania and Indiana, Obama told a crowd in Muncie, Ind., that he only meant to show empathy.

"Lately, there's been a little typical sort of political flare-up because I said something that everybody knows is true, which is that there are a whole bunch of folks in small towns in Pennsylvania, in towns right here in Indiana, in my hometown in Illinois, who are bitter," Obama said. "They are angry, they feel like they've been left behind. They feel like nobody's paying attention to what they're going through."

323. It's called tip-toeing.....
McCain wraps himself up with the American flag and announces that this makes him patriotic, no matter that his way of thinking has resulted in 4,000+ dead Americans.

Hillary Clinton wraps herself up in Republican Framing, and announces that folks just need to roll up their sleeves and get to work and and keep a smile on their face.......she then implores that we should let the Administration that gave us NAFTA in the first place, be allowed to return to office to do more of what they did initially.

Obama tells the truth of the matter and gets railroaded for forcing us to look at our true selves so that we can understand that pride and patriotism does not and has not put food on the table for the last 20 years.

I know who I stand with. What about you?

337. Quotes from CNN...this should be copied and pasted everywhere.
Here is the Transcript from CNN after they watched the Video and heard the BS from Clinton and McCain:

BLITZER: All right, Gloria, he's already being hammered by Hillary Clinton and John McCain for that matter for supposedly being an elitist and speaking ill of the people of Pennsylvania by suggesting that the economic problems there are causing them to become bitter and buying guns and becoming xenophobic and all of that. What do you think? Is this a real issue out there?

GLORIA BORGER: Well, Hillary Clinton said today, you know, I don't see bitter people out there, I see struggling people or whatever it is, but she said the people aren't bitter. But I think the people are angry – and maybe Obama's terminology was in artful but I think he's expressing a sentiment of mad-as-hell-voters, not going to take it anymore, that we've seen throughout this election. And that's why perhaps voters are saying over and over again that they want to change. So I think Hillary Clinton is trying to make him into the elite candidate but he's talking about people being angry.

BLITZER: All right, and Hillary Clinton responded to the Obama comments this way; Jeff. Let me play her little sound bite.

HRC: It's being reported that my opponent said that the people of Pennsylvania who faced hard times are bitter. Well, that's not my experience. As I travel around Pennsylvania, I meet people who are resilient, who are optimistic, who are positive, who are rolling up their sleeves. They're working hard every day for a better future for themselves and their children. Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them.

BLITZER: All right, Jeff. What do you think?

JEFF TOOBIN: I think that is so ridiculous. I mean that is not at all what Barack Obama said. I just think this is an example of how a campaign between the two of them can be purely destructive. And not elevate either candidate. I mean, Hillary Clinton is clearly distorting what Obama said. And by the way, what Obama said is factually accurate. It's been true throughout history that people who have economic problems lash out against various others. I mean, I just think it is an embarrassing for the Clinton campaign to hang on this as if it's some sort of gaffe by Obama.

BLITZER: It's not just the Clinton campaign, Jack it's also the McCain campaign. They issued a statement saying it's a remarkable statement and extremely revealing it shows an elitism towards and condescension towards hard working Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking. It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans.

JACK CAFFERTY: Really? And this is from John McCain?

BLITZER: No, this is from Steve Schmidt a senior adviser for John McCain.

CAFFERTY: Look, Jeff's right. They call it the rust belt for a reason. The great jobs and the economic prosperity left that part of the country two or three decades ago. The people are frustrated. The people have no economic opportunity. What happens to folks like that in the Middle East, you ask? Well, take a look. They go to places like al Qaeda training camps. I mean, there's nothing new here. And what Barack Obama was suggesting is not that the people of Pennsylvania are to blame for any of it. It's that the jerks in Washington, D.C., as represented by the ten years of the Bushes and the Clintons and the McCains who have lied to and misled these people for all of this time while they shipped the jobs over seas and signed phony trade deals like NAFTA are to blame for the deteriorating economic conditions among America's middle class. I mean, I'm a college dropout and I can read the damn thing and figure it out.

BORGER: You know, in this case the Hillary Clinton campaign and the John McCain campaign have the same goal and that is to portray Obama as this sort of (inaudible) elitist who doesn't understand the real working class people or independent voters. And so they're both on the same side on this one and it's obvious why.

BLITZER: Go ahead, Jeff.

TOOBIN: I just think it's remarkable that Barack Obama, this guy who grew up in a single-family household with no money, who lived in Indonesia, who came from very modest upbringings, somehow he's the elitist? That's really a pretty extraordinary sort of contortion of his background. I mean.

BORGER: It's that Harvard, Yale thing.

CAFFERTY: He did not make $109 million in the last eight year did he?

BORGER: Right.

343. Really Frenchie?
And to think you had nothing but contempt for John Edwards when he indulged in righteous populist anger concerning health care and some folks he had actually demonstrated care for, labor and the middle class. You mocked for his concern with poverty. Now you want to spin Barracks belittlement of the hardworking folks of Pennsylvania into an Edwards type rally cry to protect the worker? You have a lot of nerve, you really do. Barack doesn't give a fiddler damn about workers or little towns and he proves it with his vote to block citizens from having the right to sue corporations. He protected the corporations at the expense of the worker and was one of few Senators to do so.
The "weak democrats" are those who, like barack, protect the corporate interests. barack can't even separate himself from the insurance companies and Big Pharma enough to offer universal health care. it just wouldn't be good for business.
