Did You See That Crowd?
The crowd behind Obama at the gym as he swatted down the two Republicans he's running against, after they had pathetically tried to savage his observation of middle-class bitterness?

That was a crowd of standard-issue Americans. And that crowd was on their feet. They knew he was speaking the truth. Americans know they're getting fucked by almost all politicians on both sides. Obama, by some fantastic good fortune, knows how to present this truth in a way that people can connect with.

We've been economically sodomized for three decades: it's long past time for a change. Perhaps we can all finally acknowledge that reality, and work together to rebuild our middle class.

3. People who are upset with Obama's comments don't trust Americans....

Obama supporters that are worried about the comments think that OTHER Americans won't understand them. They do.

Clinton supporters that are trying to use the comments as a negative know, deep down, that Obama was telling them the truth.... but they need to spin it negatively.

Repukes that are saying things like "this just lost Obama the election" are scared to death. They haven't seen a Democrat tell the truth on them like this since Harry Truman in 1948. And they don't know how to deal with it.

Watch how this whole thing marinates in the American consciousness over the next 10 days.... and then you will be VERY surprised at how intelligent the voters of PA are and how they appreciate a candidate that doesn't talk to them like they were second graders.

You'll see...

19. Looks like Mr. Wright was right?
We can see who really is IN touch with the plight of the American people.

I respect anyone who will put themselves and their popularity on the line to speak the truth.

Senator Obama truly represents us and not only empathizes with our problems, but has SOLUTIONS and remedies to fix them. I'm glad he's taking his case to the people. Screw the media and Clinton and McSame.

22. Rev. Wright has stared the gritty truth in the face every day of his life.
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 12:17 AM by TahitiNut
He's taken on the dirtiest, toughest chores our society has to offer - Marine (because we're too cowardly to do the fighting we ask others to do), Corpsman (because people break, and bleed, and die in 'service'), Community activist (because it takes big hands, a strong back, and an agile mind to support the 'second class' citizens of this country), and Pastor (because people's spirits break, and cramp, and die peddling one's labors and being spat on).

What Obama apparently learned from Wright was how to ARTICULATE it - how to describe the anger and cynicism and rage people have who're constantly left outside as the economic door is slammed in their face. A Jeremiad is a rhetorical form that's ages old ... a rhetorical 'journey' from the description of the oppression and exploitation to the rhetorical 'pep pill' that gets people up to face another week, with a direction in their lives.

It's about grass roots. It's populism.

25. Thanks. I'm neither an "Obamite" nor "Clintonista" but I respect Rev. Wright ...
... and admire his journey and his accomplishments. While not a "religious" person, I used to occasionally attend Glide Memorial (UMC) in the 'tenderloin' district of San Francisco. The Pastor there is Rev. Cecil Williams. (He gives GREAT hugs!) I'm reminded of him when I read about Rev. Wright and, if anything, wish Rev. Williams was as forceful.

In his 40 years as Pastor of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, Reverend Cecil Williams has created a church that practices diversity, spirituality, and compassion. As a minister, community leader, author, lecturer, and spokesperson for the poor and marginalized, he is respected and recognized as a national leader on the forefront of social change. His vision for a truly inclusive church has attracted a 10,000 member congregation, an extended family, who reflect the diversity of the world - all races, ages, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations and religions. What brings this community of people together is the common search for acceptance, spiritual growth, and social justice. Cecil's spirituality demands action through good works, as staff and thousands of volunteers feed over 1 million meals a year to the hungry, and offer the hope of recovery and healing in the lives of the city's most marginalized. His tireless work over the last 37 years has made Glide one of the most active, dynamic churches in the world, receiving national and international acclaim. Reverend Williams is married to Janice Mirikitani. He has a son, daughter, and 2 grandchildren.

6. Giant Man Crush
I saw him in Allentown almost two weeks ago. It was his standard speech and I had heard a lot of the lines before but I've never left anything more fired up than I did that night.

I also had no voice left the next day from cheering.

7. They were extremely happy to see a candidate FINALLY say what is going on!
People are being FUCKED over by the .gov each and every day for decades. And then some politicians have the gual to tell them they aren't bitter?

I am disgusted that we have a president that got voted in on a crappy vote and scandal from the previous administration. When we could have had Al Gore for 8 years and be on our way to energy independence.

I am disgusted that we are still in this war when it is more than obvious we will get NOTHING out of it but people mentally and physically crippled for life with their friends in graves.

I am disgusted that Bush gives tax cuts to the rich companies when the rich ship so many jobs overseas.

I am disgusted with the way things are and am ready for CHANGE!

GOBAMA!! The time for hard truth is here!

24. Thank YOU, Senator Obama
It's the other two Senators who are outta touch with the ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile the two Elitist Senators haven't a clue what that feels. They don't have to worry about health care, gas prices, mortgage payments, retirement benefits.

They have it made in the shade. They are the ones who benefit off of the Taxpayers. They get socialized health care, they don't have to worry about the high gas prices, or their mortgage payments, or their retirement benefits. We Taxpayers ARE TAKING CARE OF THEM.

At least Senator Obama knows about these conditions by seeing it first hand for several decades.
