Am I bitter?
I don't think so, but I certainly have been called that by certain Obama Campers here.....and now it seems Obama thinks the good people of Pennsylvania that aren't climbing on his Magical Mystery Tour Bandwagon and drinking the koolaid are bitter too. Apparently everyone who doesn't have on their rose colored glasses and doesn't stomp and yell GOBAMA is bitter.

How about Obama gives credit to the people of Pennsylvania even if they don't have Ivy League degrees..............maybe they just have a clue and understand that Mr Obama is not the second coming? Seems to me that Mr Obama needs to get off his high horse and stop insulting all of Middle America with his elitist rhetoric.

27. Okay.
I went and looked at your journal. I'm probably your mother's age so feel free to ignore me as I suspect you automatically will.

As you get older, things change. Your perspective on issues change, the issues themselves change, and the environment in which the issues exist change. Kids have always been suspended for playing pranks. I'm surprised you think people are telling you to sit down and shut up because you're young. Fact is, there's always going to be someone around to tell you that. Age is not a factor.

Zero tolerance? That's probably going to turn out to be one of those flexible issues. And by the way, I can't speak for elsewhere in the 50 states, but no one in this area would consider allowing someone to give shock therapy to an autistic child. We all know better than that.

I have found the people to be hard working, optimistic and extremely friendly people. They don't seem bitter at all. Not to mention your yards and lawns........some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

8. oh for fuck's sake. can people stop being stupid?
and cut the faux outrage. Obama didn't call you anything. And yes, some people are bitter and some are angry. If you're house is being foreclosed on because of predatory loan rates, you may be bitter. If you're working two jobs for $8 bucks an hour, you may be angry. And guess what? One can be both bitter and hopeful within minutes. Emotions are rarely static.

Oh, and most hillfans here strike me as very bitter.

I like them because they're my neighbors and acquaintances. My son went to school with their children. We all come together at the Grange bake sale or at a benefit for someone who doesn't have health insurance. I live in poor rural America.

9. Bitter? What Is There To Be Bitter About?
.

An occupation of Iraq that is bankrupting USA?

No money for infrastructure repair in USA?

A trashed economy?

(The list is quite long.)

If one is not bitter and angry, it is because one is not paying attention!

12. It was not useful to suggest people turn to guns and religion out of bitterness
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 06:50 AM by HereSince1628
about politicians not keeping promises. It is too broad a generalization and has all the problems associated with that.

With this statement Obama introduced guns and religion into the discourse in a manner that is facile and looks demeaning (as in condescending) of people's motivations to be religious or gun owning.

Moverover, in posing his explanation Obama set himself apart from/outside of the group he judged and priviledged the attitude of that outside position. It was not a great way to be seen as being a proverbial 'one of us.'

So?

I voted for Obama in the Wis. primary and I acknowledge that this statement of Obama was a gaff. Politicians make gaffs and their opponents jump on the gaffs. That's what we are witnessing.

I don't see it as a pattern.

If this is a pattern that will take him down, it needs a lot more evidence of additional similarly dumb statements.

And if it is a pattern I'll have to compare it to the pattern of hyperbole and parsing of reality that comes out of one of the other presidential candidates still in the race.

22. Maybe but look at this sentence...it really was a gaff. But why a week later?
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 07:19 AM by HereSince1628
"...it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The image it leaves is that Obama sees people as bitter gun carrying xenophobic isolationist church goers. Yikes! Undoubtedly not his intention.

But putting too many volatile concepts into a single sentence is a dangerous thing in our sound bite world. It was a gaff.

My question is why did it take a week to get out? Did someone want it to go off close enough to the PA primary that it couldn't have a chance to fade? Or does it just take that long for a blogger with a hot item to get it noticed?

18. Do you actually live in Pennsylvania?
Have you ever lived there? Do you even have the slightest idea how fucked up things are in the state? Obama is right. People ARE bitter there, and they DO vote on stupid issues in part because they've completely lost faith in the federal government to do anything USEFUL in economic terms. I know this in my fucking blood. I grew up there. But I also think that Obama is a fucking idiot for having said this at a fundraiser in San Francisco. San Francisco is the butt of a joke to most people in that part of the country - a shining example of everything that's wrong with America.

30. I know logic is lost on you Clintonistas.... but here goes...

A) People are bitter about the past 30+ years.... especially the last 7.5

B) Obama gives them hope that this can change.

Americans are "bitter", but they have "hope" that Obama can change things.

They're not incompatible themes.

You are either incredibly stupid, or incredibly tone-deaf.
