Voting across party lines in the primaries.
There has been a recent petition signing where I live.

The basics being: allowing one to vote across party lines in the primaries. We currently have a closed ballot system here.

Sounds like freedom, however; which democratic candidate is least likely to be voted into the presidency?

I think I have seen this angle presented before on this forum. The repugs will and do use any manipulation possible. If we are going to bypass Diebold, they are going to trump us when and if they can. Since they have for the past eight years, I think they are on a roll.

If we do not unite we will lose. Divide and conquer, nothing new but tied and true.

1. It cuts both ways
There are people who are going to show up in PA wanting to vote because they are independents and think that means they can pick the primary they vote for. Ran into having to explain that myth in voter registration drives.

3. I am not sure what you mean.
I know some states don’t allow you to vote outside of your party. Registration drives are meant to get people involved, not necessarily to get their vote. Please explain how this tactic of repugs voting for the least likely democratic presidential candidate in the primaries will not work.

4. um, so what do you suggest in states like mine where there is
registration by party? You either register to vote and take the freeman's oath, or you don't.

5. My concern is that repugs can vote in the primaries for the least likely democratic candidate.
Let me clarify. We know the republicans are organized, sort of like the borg they follow one mind. So, repugs will vote in the primaries for the least likely democratic candidate, thus dividing democrats even further. This knowing that they will vote republican in the general election.

7. that doesn't address my point.
In my state and others there is no party registration. Are you saying that we should be forced to change that? And furthermore repukes aren't the borg and dems muck around doing this too- there was an organized effort to vote for Romney in MI.

8. Mormons are even more organized than republicans, hope that explains Mitt.
I won’t argue the borg point. What I want to ask is does anyone else believe it is possible that changing the way we in Washington state vote in the pimaries, meaning changing it so we can vote across party lines, is a way to allow repugs in this state to vote for the least likely democrat to get elected into the presidency?

I am asking because there has been a petition drive and it spurred my curiosity as to why.

2. The thing is... primary elections are for
the Democrataic Party to select the person it wants to put up as its nominee for President and for the Republican Party to select the person that it wants to put up as its nominee for President. It's not a General Election.

I question whether it makes sense for non-party members to influencing the parties' choices, as long as we still have a party system.

6. Only Democrats s/b voting for our nominee.
(cue posters from both camps to post 'facts' 'proving' the other side 'benefits' in open primaries and caucuses)

9. Actually this is want I want to hear.
I spoke at length with the person petitioning. However, I don’t usually expose my conspiracy thinking to just anyone; so I am asking DU how probable the scenario stated above might be.
