Will Clinton be McCain's Vice President pick?
I know this has been thrown around before, but every day it seems like a more and more possible scenario.

  • Clinton can not and will not be the Democratic nominee. (Clinton supporters on DU: I applaud your support of your candidate but the facts are the facts)
  • By staying in this race at this point, she benefits only McCain and the GOP
  • Clinton and her campaign have actively and openly wooed the right lately through their choice of media outlets and by pushing acknowledged GOP talking points
  • Clinton and her campaign have also run a smear campaign against Obama that Rove and Bush would be jealous of (her own endorsers are even beginning to comment publicly on her right-wing tendencies)

Why would she do all this? I know the idea of a 4-year McCain presidency leading to her resurrection in 2010 has been floated, but she's not really the kind to wait. She wants what she wants when she wants it and damn anyone who gets in her way.

From the other side of the aisle, choosing a (supposed) Democrat is just McCain's style - it proves his (supposed) "Maverick" meme. And, choosing a woman is just the GOP style given the gender discussions going on today - especially one that is a Republican in disguise. It would be a win-win for them.

Flame away if you must (of course, the most avid flamers are probably already on ignore anyway, so get it off your chest and thanks for the bump) but I felt this possibility must be mentioned and considered.

1. I think the larger argument at this point
is which one will be on top of the ticket.

2. No, and I wish people would stop suggesting it.

Clinton still has a powerful support base in the Democratic Party. She has nothing but hatred from Republicans. There is absolutely no reason why she would switch parties.

That aside, she's NOT a Republican. She's a DLC Democrat. We may not like the "old-school" Dems, but they're certainly not Republicans.

No flames, just a differing opinion.

8. And it's definitely a valid opinion.
And you are correct: there are many Republicans who would rather eat their arm than support anyone with the last name Clinton.

However...given the actions of the Bush Cabal, I no longer feel the ruling portion of the GOP really cares what their members want or feel. To them it's all about power - and they'll get behind anyone who can give them that. And that would allow them to make a deal with her.

I do hope I'm wrong, for many reasons, but it's a thought that's been nagging at me with increasing frequency lately.

3. There is no way that she would be on that ticket...
She is a Democrat, for crying out loud!

She is way too liberal for any of McCain's followers...

It's not going to happen.

You'll see.

10. My dear, CaliforniaPeggy....
People said that about Lieberman too. People do change and sometimes not for the better.

11. I do hope you're right!!
I really do. Unfortunately, I know many Democrats who like McCain. They won't vote for him this fall because they will not vote for the GOP in a presidential election, but his pretend liberal tendencies have fooled many.

4. I hope she takes the DLC with her
We really need to purge their corrosive Republican ideals from our party.

5. more likely the lieberman bogus third party choice
I think the clintons think they would have a chance to win as a third party, or better, to be spoilers so mccain could win now, and them in 2012.
I do NOT look for them to come behind in support of the nominee when they lose. I don't think they have that much humility, even between both of them.
However, I do not think they'll go full republican because republicans hate the clintons with an intensity of a thousand burning suns.

6. That's a distinct possibility.
They are drinking buddies.
They both have moved sharply further right since '00.
They are both war-mongers.
McCain's CM works for Penn.
Hillary will do anything to get in power, including endorsing McCain.

I'm sure Tonya's bots won't have a problem with voting (R) if she's on the ticket...

12. If there are actual Democrats on this board stupid enough to take this OP seriously
The Democratic Party needs to immediately prioritize sending a massive infusion of money into our public education system.
