HE is not an "elitist." He was NOT insulting people. He grew up without his father. He didn't vacation in a summer cottage and play pinochle. He talked about how people are being ignored and left behind by the govt. Hillary and Bill were part of the reason people fell behind. Clinton can "play" on this all she wants. It will come back to haunt her.

1. You don't know what you're talking about.
Pennsylvania did quite well under Clinton. Unemployment went down, salaries went up and times were good.

This was not a smart move.

3. Actually it was Hillary's response that wasn't smart.
People are angry at the government. She was all "The Economy is strong." He's going to make her eat her own words.

2. His remarks were not much different than his speech on race. . .
. . .as I talk about in thread below Hillary just sees and opportunity to divide and polarize us, sort of like a Republican.

took from sources she won't reveal "until she's president," which won't happen.

6. If Barack can seize on his moment from last night in Indiana.....
If he can tap into that bitterness, disappointment, and resentment toward status-quo government. I think he could end this nomination fight and ride it to November.

If Hillary and McCain define his words as demeaning and insulting to the gun-toting evangelical types, Barack will be in trouble.

It is up to Barack. He needs to go on the offense and not allow the media to push him into a corner.

35. Your can parse the words all you want but you can't change them.
Obama, a Harvard elitist, was speaking to some rich San Francisco elitists, and making fun of how people in small towns find comfort in religion and guns. He patronized them on their "anti-immigrant" and "anti-trade" views. He knew exactly who he was speaking to and he knew exactly what they wanted to hear.

That is so elitist. The only small town Obama has ever seen is Cambridge, MA. But he knew what the San Francisco crowd wanted to hear and he gave it to them.

28. bullshit...I like Obama but I'm not stupid enough to buy this line
it was an elitist statement..and at this point it would be better to apologize and not try and convince people it didn't mean exactly what everyone took it as. People aren't "clinging" to guns because their life sucks...that is just plain ignorant actually. Most of us who enjoy firearms are just that..enthusiasts. I have plenty of people in my family who were left in steel towns and mills that shut down. The youngest ones left...the rest made do...and they have their own mind set..but they had it even before the jobs left.

as much as Hillary is. He's religious. He's for giving illegal immigrants drivers' licenses. So keep distorting his words. You can't distort his record.

34. there's nothing to distort
and he himself has come out and stated as much. geez...let's keep it real. I can't stand Hillary so why even compare the two? And what does giving illegals licenses have to do with the president? That is entirely up to the states...licensing has NEVER been a federal issue, and being for or against it has nothing to do with being elitist.

Obama's pastor said "It's in the Bible!" Not in my edition. He has always been opposed to the 2nd amendment. When he was a state senator in Illinois he favored the banning of all handguns.

what he did as a state Senator re: IL gun laws is different from U.S. laws.

You are right - IL gun laws are different than U.S. laws. That is the problem. We know what Obama wanted to do in IL. That is an excellent predictor of what he wants for the rest of the U.S.

First of all,Obama never said every gun owner clings to guns because they are bitter or unhappy or "their life sucks.". However,it is undeniable that some people do. I know because I live in North Carolina and grew up around some of these people.
