He's the antichrist
My mother just called me and I am listening to a rant of unbelievable proportions. I can't get a word in edgewise. She is convinced that BO is the antichrist.

I am waiting to hear that he is going to make us all have abortions and turn us into teh gay.

She is apolitical, but apparently someone sent her something about Obama sponsoring a law that live babies should be killed on contact.

H E L P!!

1. I have to ask
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 01:30 PM by TML
Does she live in a rural area?

I deal with a lot of people from rural areas across the country at work. When conversation turns to politics, a good percentage of them can't say Obama without saying the N-word. That is the cold, hard truth.

3. Not really, but she is a one-issue voter
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 01:35 PM by Yael
She just yelled something about not voting for anyone this fall and that this would be the first election she would sit out, so there is hope.

I told her that if she couldn't get behind McCentury that she should go with her gut.

I have never seen her so fired up about ANYTHING.

Edit to add -- she just said that she is terrified, TERRIFIED of an Obama presidency.

Dear Lord.

I have a group of sisters who will vote for McCain if Obama wins the primary. My father may be in the same boat for other reasons I won't disclose. That means I have a few months to work on them.

35. Does she read those "Left Behind" books?
I think that's where this "Obama is the Antichrist" meme started. I shudder and squirm just when I see those books on display at my bookstore, so I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I've heard from a few people that there's some "Left Behind" email about Obama making the rounds.

I live in a rural, mostly white place where "bitter" people tend to wear white hoods with matching robes, or decorate their skin with "SS" tattoos and beat up Black and Brown people and gays for being different.

More rural places are like mine than yours. Be happy you live where you're at.

51. "good percentage of them can't say Obama without saying the N-word"
which is sad. You know it might take a black president who has high approval ratings and gets the job done and stops all the partisan infighting and make them think of America first to change racism in america. I dont like obama but this might be the necessary key. A lot of people especially some republicans who are racist think that if a black man became president he would be biased towards blacks and the white man would be crapped on....I think Obama has shown that that is not the case at all..

6. Nope. Just as with Hillary's nomination chances, the math simply doesn't work.
BARACK - 6
HUSSEIN - 7
OBAMA - 5

Now, I know some Hillbot will probably try to argue that the average of 5 and 7 is 6, so that would mean Obama really IS the Antichrist, and he's just "being sneaky about it".

And in fairness......

HILLARY - 7
RODHAM - 6
CLINTON - 7

See, I can admit that Hillary is NOT the Antichrist!

The problem I think is that because she is normally turned off by politics (and anything political) something like this will set her off the charts because she isn't getting balanced information fro various sources.

13. She must have gotten this email

<<According to The Book of Revelations the anti-christ is:
The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is it OBAMA?

I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to re-post this as many times as you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet...do it!

I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who came out of nowhere...>>

Of course there is nothing in Revelations that says this but why bother to check when you get verification in a chain email.

26. I don't know whose translation of Revelation they're reading
But any version of the Bible I have read says nothing at all specific about the age, ethnicity, or religious background of the Antichrist. Some have assumed that he would be Jewish, because Jesus was Jewish. A lot of the fundies look at the verses in Revelation and in Daniel which seem to imply that the Antichrist's world empire would be a revival of the Roman empire, which would mean the AC would be a European leader. In the popular "Left Behind" book series, they make the guy a Romanian, for some reason.

But if any US presidents ever had a shot at being the Antichrist, it would have been either

RONALD - 6
WILSON - 6
REAGAN - 6

or

GEORGE - 6
WALKER - 6
BUSHJR - 6

Revelation does mention a "first Beast" and a "second Beast". Maybe the Antichrist is already here?

When I hear the stupid shit people claim to base their voting decision on, I usually wheedle out of them that there was no way they were going to vote for the other guy anyways, they just wanted to give any stupid reason why they weren't voting for him.

Next week, she'll claim she won't vote for Obama because he will pass a law requiring us to wear paisley pants.

29. How to deal with the irrational.
1) Just listen to them. Actively listen to them.
2) Don't try to rebut them. Just restate what they are saying and make sure they feel heard and understood.
3) Try to drip rationality in there, but if they start to get defensive, back off sharply.
4) Recognize that they're not going to get all there in one session, but if you can at least begin to have a good conversation with them, that is a start.
5) Remain calm, remain calm, remain calm. The moment you start getting mad and expressing your anger, YOU LOSE.

44. So did much of the right wing religious establishment when Pat put out that record
I was working for a Bible Software company at the time, and Pat Boone did our radio commercials for Jesus radio stations. Talked to him a couple of times on the phone, seemed like a nice enough guy, despite his politics. He was amazed at the backlash he got from his own religious right "peeps" for that album. Oddly enough, he's actually good friends with Alice Cooper, and became friends with Ozzy when they were next door neighbors.

46. I have no idea where she stands
She can't stand Bush, and won't vote for McSame.

Ironically, over the last few months when I talk about healthcare and how the needs of veterans aren't being addressed, the dwindling economy and the disappearance of the middle class, she agrees with me on all counts. She isn't hip to the boogyman 'terra' stuff and never would allow a gun in her home.

I don't think SHE knows where she stands. From what I am gathering, the one-issue voter thing trumps all.

Smearing Obama's Record on Choice
By Dana Goldstein, RH Reality Check. Posted March 26, 2008

Anti-choice activists claim that Obama voted against protecting infants. In fact, he cast his votes for choice and for women's health.

Gobs of ink have been spilled over Barack Obama's "present" votes on choice issues during his time in the Illinois State Senate. Yes, Obama voted "present" instead of "no" on seven bills that would have limited women's reproductive rights. And yes, Planned Parenthood of Illinois has defended Obama, saying he was acting out a rehearsed strategy for preserving pro-choice seats in the legislature. But while the Democratic campaigns and women's organizations quibbled over which 100 percent pro-choice Senator, Obama or Hillary Clinton, would be the better president for reproductive health, many choice advocates missed what was percolating under the radar: The beginnings of a conservative smear campaign against Obama's very real history of support for reproductive freedom.

The anti-choice anti-Obama strategy is based on Obama's clear "no" votes on the "Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act," or BAIPA. Leading anti-choice blogger Jill Stanek, who testified in the Illinois state Senate on behalf of the bill, has played a key role in disseminating this anti-Obama argument in the right-wing blogosphere. Taking the bait, former presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback, in a fundraising email to supporters of his political action committee last month, excoriated Obama for opposing BAIPA. And in a Feb. 26 editorial, the National Catholic Register fumed, "Obama wouldn't even protect children born alive by mistake during abortion attempts."

The Candidates on Abortion

Obama supports abortion rights. In the Illinois State Senate, he voted against a bill to ban late-term abortions. Obama said that he did not support the ban because it did not contain a clause to protect the life of the mother. During the April 2007 Democratic debate, Obama said that he trusts women to make their own decisions about whether or not to have an abortion "in conjunction with their doctors and their families and their clergy."

"A woman's ability to decide how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess. It is not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women.

"I have consistently advocated for reproductive choice and will make preserving women's rights under Roe v. Wade a priority as President. I oppose any constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling in this case.

"I believe we must work together to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. I support legislation to expand access to contraception, health information, and preventative services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. That is why I co-sponsored the Prevention First Act of 2007, which will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. It will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims.

"Finally, I support the enactment and enforcement of laws that help prevent violence, intimidation, and harassment directed at reproductive health providers and their patients."

Clinton Criticizes Obama in a NH mailer

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton criticizes rival Barack Obama's record on abortion rights in a mailing sent to New Hampshire voters.
The mailer says that seven times during his time in the Illinois state Senate, Obama declined to take a position on abortion bills, while Clinton has been a defender of abortion rights.

During his eight years in the legislature, Obama cast a number of votes on abortion and received a 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council for his support of abortion rights, family planning services and health insurance coverage for female contraceptives. He voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive, a vote that especially riled abortion opponents.

He also joined other state Democrats in voting present on some bills.

The mailing comes amid division within the Clinton campaign over how negative to go against Obama after his victory Thursday in the Iowa caucuses. The campaign has made a decision to hold off on any television advertising, positive or negative, until after a nationally televised debate Saturday night.

Obama also has been criticized by the political arm of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which has endorsed Clinton. Seven international vice presidents sent a letter protesting the "wholesale assault on one of the great friends of our union."

"Supposedly, we are involved in this primary because we're concerned about access to the next Democratic president," the signers argued. "So why would we want to develop a hostile relationship with the man who could be that next president?"

During the Iowa campaign, the Clinton campaign criticized Obama's position on health care in Iowa. But she is taking a different approach in New Hampshire.

"A woman's right to choose," the mailing says on the front, then flips to the back, "demands a leader who will stand up and protect it."

______________________________________________________________________________________

I am an RN, and Obama is right, a doctor is required to save a viable life. A fetus is not viable until the 20th week of pregnancy. If a fetus is born, it is up to the medical field to save that child. Obama knows this, and any person should know that the medical field is obligated to save that childs life if at all possible.

69. She hasn't paid enough attention to Bush.
HE's the anti-christ.

Obama is not anywhere close to the president I want to see lead the nation, but he's no anti-christ.
