I hate what this forum has become
Today I had one of the most exiting political days of my life. But I don't dare post about it here. I know it will get shit upon by Hillary haters. I got to hear Bill Clinton speak with a group of friends and really loved it but here it will get shit upon. That is what this place has become. I saw a former student engaged in her campaign and was so proud but it will get shit upon here. Even at the worst of 2004, I know that wouldn't have happened. The gay forum is why I am here. This site has been ruined, just out and out ruined. You all have pretty much gotten your way here. But it is a very pyrrich victory. I wish I felt I could really share today with you, but there is no point at all.

13. and don't expect any of us to ever, EVER
support anything that Hillary or Bill do in the future.

You see, burning bridges works in two ways. Sure, it makes a huge impact on the enemy, at least initially (in this case, anyone who DARES oppose the inevitable coronation - gee, like Barack) but, the problem is, once the initial bullshit attack (pick a week, an issue, a topic, and Hill's kitchen sink has tried it) fails (and they all have failed. and they will continue to fail. All they do is show the true ugly side of Queen Hill) that burnt bridge ends up being a trap for the people who burned it. IN this case, Hill and Bill.

screw them. They have lost all respect from democrats everywhere. They did it to themselves, and they completely deserve what they get as fall out. I for one, never want to see them in public office again.

31. whoever used the f-word is probably pushing up daisies
Myself I was called a fascist by an old-timer when I first joined in 2004. My crime was - using the word 'weltanschauung'. So nasty names are nothing new.

The odd thing is, Hillary haters here are mad at the Clintons and what the Clintons are saying and doing, whereas Obama haters are mad at what the Obama-supporters and Clinton-haters are saying and doing. Is Obama handing out "I survived a sniper attack" buttons at his rallies? Or is it Hillary handing out "I am not bitter" stickers? Is Obama quoting Grover Norquist as he attacks Hillary? Or is Hillary quoting Norquist as he attacks Obama?

Perhaps there is a Hillary group on DU where you can share your Clinton story.

And I'm just a lowly DU'er, but if I had my way, anyone who would use the "F" word would get an automatic tombstone. Fred Phelps and his disgusting followers are big fans of that truly vile word. It doesn't belong here under any circumstances.

Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 07:37 PM by Catherina
I've called a few people racist here but never you. It has PAINED me to see DU generalize that gays are behind Clinton when I know for a fact that almost all my rich gay friends were the first to open their pocketbooks to Obama because of the hope he gave them. If all we can count on is your vote, that's fair enough but I hope you take a break from this place and examine Obama under a non-DU light so the politics of polarization can end. I'm sorry any insults went that personally against you.

62. Why because some of the Obama supporters
on a web site pissed you off?
Do you really think Obama or Hillary for that matter would condone internet bullying?
Oh wait Hillary might.
The point is that people act like idiots on the internet.
They get all "brave" behind the anonymity.
Some people don't handle the freedom of it all, that well.
If people talked more about issues on here, and not let themselves get baited by childish "debate" tactics, maybe there wouldn't be all of this back biting.
So what I am getting from you is that you would rather have a Republican in office, because someone was mean to you on a web site.
You need to get a thicker skin.

Do you have a link or anything to back it up?
Those are serious accusations that should be accompanied with proof.
People can call me whatever they want.
It's just some piss ant trying to be an internet hero, which doesn't amount to much at the end of the day.
I didn't call you a liar either, and the fact that you would immediately link that statement to lying, speaks volumes about how you really feel about your candidate.

I just haven't been on in a while.
I didn't call you a liar either.
I just went to go donate my usual $1 so I could get all of the functions, but they want at least $10 now, which kind of sucks if they take your star away. If I never lost my donor status, I'd pay the $10.
Someone that called you those names should be banned.
However, if you would have just said that I can't link to the proof as it is against forum rules, I might not have been so snippy.
You do have a right to say you have been treated poorly on here, but perhaps it is something better for the mods to handle.

About this forum. Sometimes, I've gotten really pissed...like trying to communicate about how evil the "ex-gay" movement in here...and sometimes it's just so ridiculously stupid, so wildly over the top idiotic that I burst out laughing...I mean, slamming Elton John because he came out against misogyny?? Give me a fucking break. :eyes:. Sometimes, it's like kindergarten in here...and that's when I leave.

80. Hillary acts like a republican, so smear her....like the republicans do
Obama supporters never, ever, talk about Obama's policy positions; all they ever talk about is Hillary. Obama has fostered this by running a campaign based on reacting to whatever Hillary says or does on any given day while rarely talking about his positions on issues.

This is absolutely Obama's fault, not Hillary's. Face it, Obama supporters are absolutely OBSESSED with Hillary AND her supporters and express this obsession via open hostility.

John Edwards talked about his policy positions and almost nothing else, thus his supporters could articulate his policy; this is not true of Obama supporters who instead must channel their support into attacks and gossip.

43. Have to admit, it has become fairly petty and vindictive around here lately. I posted today a press
release about a Obama/Clinton conference regarding morals/politics/religion and it sunk like a rock. After 105 views it only go two recommendations. Seems like some are more interested in mud slinking, the latest soap opera, and the latest gossip than what the hell these candidates are all about and where these candidates will take this country.

It's frustrating and somewhat demoralizing. But you can't paint everybody out there with a broad brush and I know for a fact that there are people here at DU that really do give a damn. And bottom line, that's what it is all about.

Keep the Faith.

I agree with you on how this site has been ruined. It is so disappointing. I only stay at this point in the hope that it will get better once this is over with. Please post about your day in the gay forum or the Hillary forum. I will be looking forward to hearing what Bill had to say! Blessings and peace to you dsc. Don't forget that there are still people here that care. We are just in the background watching and waiting for DU to return to normal.

52. Hi, dsc!
I've seen a few threads posted here in GD-P where the OP wants people to post about rallies and meetings that they've gone to in support of either candidate. They are very, very enjoyable to read, and at least when I was reading them, nasty comments were at a minimum. We need more threads like these, because I'd love to hear about your experience!

Older timers here than me tell me that things will calm down once we have a nominee. I sure hope so!

:hi:

54. I can understand why Obama has many supporters
because he is truly an inspiring orator. However, Bill is the master. He speaks to you on your level and I feel that he is very compassionate. I also believe that he played a pivotal role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland.

I understand your pride in discovering one of your former students volunteering in campaign work. It is people like him/her that keeps the democratic process alive.

May you have many more exciting days like you had today and may the most deserving candidate win.

55. Well look on the bright side...
after one of them wins, it won't be allowed anymore. (And you could always alert on the trolls) Post it in the Hillary Clinton forum, maybe.

57. I know.
I am working for HRC in PA, and it all feels empty at times.
Seeing how hate she has become and if we don't blindly accept Obama, we are then smeared as some kind of evil thugs.

58. I know how you feel my friend...A couple of years ago my partner and I drove to Little Rock
to see Bill Clinton speak at a function honoring Gert Clark, Wes's wife. It was a monumental experience for me, one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I posted about a long thread about it here and had many wonderful, supportive responses which really helped my enjoy the experience all over again. I'm really sorry you're being cheated out of that feeling.

I've never had the guts to admit on DU that I voted for Barack Obama last March in the Mississippi primary. To many of my friends in the GLBT forum here that was an unthinkable vote because of the McGlurkin fiasco. It was a wrenching decision that I put off until the night before the election (March 10th) for many reasons but I never posted a word about it here because it would simply mean more hatred and shit-slinging between people I love.

I too hate what this forum has become. Maybe, next fall things will get better.

59. I am sorry you felt you couldn't post who you voted for either
as to the fall, I frankly, figure I will be gone by then. I would like to think not, but I see the handwriting on the wall.

60. Just do what I'm doing....stick to the forums you really care about....
in my case GLBT, books, cooking, gardening, science fiction. Read GD-P when the urge strikes but do your DAMNEDEST not to respond to anyone...lately I've gone days without speaking out at all-just reading and trying to absorb. This is the single weirdest campaign of my lifetime.

But we need people like you-serious people who are trying to make a difference and haven't yet thrown in the towel and sold out. Sure, you can do all those things without DU but I think there is something of value to be found here. If theres this much horseshit, there has to be a pony somewhere!

Hope you're misinterpreting the writing on the wall. You would be missed.

61. I know what you're saying
I like to think that most of those who respond so quickly and vehemently won't be here much longer. They're playing here and won't stick around once their candidate is gone. (Either candidate.) Once we have a nominee I think (hope) DU gets back to being the way it was.

I don't think it's fair, though, to categorize it as "all" of DU or even GD-P. I know many of the good DU people aren't posting crap.

Don't give up. Although I don't support your candidate I know how exciting it can be to attend political events - especially if former Presidents are involved. I'm glad you enjoyed the CLinton event. And hang in there a bit longer.

69. bill is really something special
i have admired him for years but now i`m really disappointed. it`s not so much his standing up for his wife which i would expect him to do but some of the things he did during his presidency that i have found repulsive.
that being said if i had a chance to hear him speak in person i would`t turn it down..for better or worse he`s is still the big dog..

Although there is strong disagreement on the candidates, PLEASE don't let it sour you on the DU community.

81. Your post will get shit on because they want you to wake up.
Living in fantasy land with cotton candy clouds and Bill Clinton speeches are fine when you are sleeping. But here in the real world where we SEE those fantasies for what they are (smoke and mirrors), and how absolutely corrupt the Clintons are (Lieberman style), it's kind of hard for us not to give in to the temptation to shake you out of your slumber.

We realize you want to sleep in and keep enjoying the fantasy, but you've gotta wake up.
