OK Dems, let's try to focus on something of mutual interest
While the press and this site mostly seems to be interested in dissecting whether calling someone bitter is condescending or not, there are things going on in this election cycle to which we just might find it fruitful to pay a little more attention.

For instance, the 6th congressional district of Louisiana.

It has been Republican, but because of a recent resignation, its now vacant, with a special election May 3.

Congressional Quarterly rates this race as having no clear favorite, a tossup, too close to call.

While the Democratic candidate might strike some as just a little more conservative than they might prefer, he remains reliably Democratic--and he's up against a "Club for Growth" Republican.

I have seen nothing about this on this site, not even in the Louisiana forum which I just checked.

This race has nationwide ramifications because if we can take it then the recent success in the Illinois 14th district will not appear to be a fluke--or the result of the Republicans simply having picked a poor candidate in a State that is trending Democratic.

Well, actually, it's arguable that the Republicans have picked a bad candidate here too. Well known, but with documented ties not only to the Club for Growth, but to David Duke.

Whether Obama's reference to middle class Americans as "bitter" will make or break his candidacy both in the primary and in the general will work itself out soon enough, and it seems unlikely that the discussion here will have much impact on that--but we might have an impact if we focused some energy on the 6th congressional district of Louisiana over the next 20 days.
