POLITICAL GOLDEN RULE - In today's SA Express-News, something for DU'ers
Had to share, even in the heart of Texas there can be a call for reason. Don't have any clue who the writer is, just thought he said it well.

Political golden rule

As the poster child for Recovering Republicans for Obama, I have some free advice for Democrats. Stop the sniping now and start the November campaign.

You've managed to turn reasoned political discourse into some sort of a perp walk for Hillary, and it will cost you in November. It doesn't matter if she landed in a hail of bullets or rose petals. It is time to rise above all that and get down to business.

We've had seven years of Rove and Cheney. Let's not risk 16. Stay on target — it's the war, it's the economy. Anything else is noise. Be kind to each other. And if you can't be kind, be quiet!

Thought the LTE writer captured a useful sentiment.

2. When One Candidate Alternately Dodges Sniper Fire & Then Snipes At Her Democratic Opponent...
And shares talking points with the repub nominee, you can expect her supporters to follow suit.

5. Not sure who the LTE writer was aiming at, but ....
But he was an admitted recovering Republican. In their world, they have made it a primary tenet to not bloody their own. There is a bit of wisdom in that, but Dems should prefer to have a candidate that can stand the rough and tumble of an election contest. We know good and well that the RW will not play by any rules but their own in the GE.

4. Many have held this position since Wisconsin.
Many more since the Ohio/Texas split.

Still more after Wyoming and Mississippi.

6. I believe that was Mike Dukakis' strategy
It is time to rise above all that and get down to business.

Mike Dukakis tried to rise above all that and not answer the smears from the other side. It's didn't work too well, if I recall.

7. That is not the way to win the GE, but we're still haven't selected our nominee yet

Think it is possible to campaign hard in the primaries w/o getting too poisonous, guess we'll find out if that's valid for this cycle. Don't think either of the Dems will pull too many punches in the GE. It's clear the HRC campaign can bring the heat. Have a feeling that with the future of his kids (and the rest of the country as well) at risk should we see another Rep administration in 2008, BHO will be a warrior in the GE.
