DU hunters, do we have a Duckgate here?
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 01:58 PM by hedgehog
1. Hillary speaks about spending summers in Scranton, PA.

2. She also speaks about being taught how to shoot by her father in Penssylvania and going duck hunting.

My question is this; isn't the duck hunting season in October/November?

On edit: I admit my error. Apparently she learned to shoot in Pennsylvania, but she went duck hunting once in Arkansas.

1. Oh oh! maybe she misspoke again!
I thought duck hunting was in Oct/Nov but maybe she misspoke and she mistook some other type of wildlife that looked like a duck.

Poor sweet ducks!

She took hunting lessons from Dead-eye Dick.

DOVE AND EARLY CANADA GOOSE SEASONS TO BEGIN SEPT. 1
GAME COMMISSION PARTICIPATING IN MULTI-STATE DOVE BANDING STUDY

DOVE AND EARLY CANADA GOOSE SEASONS TO BEGIN SEPT. 1

HARRISBURG - Dove and early Canada goose seasons will open Sept. 1, as part of Pennsylvania's 2005 migratory bird seasons and bag limits announced today by Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Vern Ross.

"Pennsylvania's migratory bird hunting seasons will be very similar to last year's," said Ross of the selection package forwarded to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. "Hunters can look forward to enjoying the same expanded opportunities."

Dove hunters once again will have the opportunity to participate in a triple-split season. During the first season (Sept. 1-Oct.1), hunting will start at noon and continue through sunset daily. The second and third splits will be Oct. 29-Nov. 26, and Dec. 26-Jan. 4, with hunting hours a half-hour before sunrise until sunset. In all three seasons, the daily bag limit will be 12 and the possession limit after opening day is 24.

6. Why hasn't anyone asked her what weapon she used?
When asked at a debate by a show of hands, which candidates have ever owned or kept a weapon in their homes... Clinton did not raise her hand.

So, per her word, she has NEVER owned a weapon in her adult life.

Now, even in childhood, duck hunting is an impossibility.

Excellent post... if she didn't trivially and needlessly misbehave, this wouldn't matter to me. But if it's more of the same... it's the little things then, that point to the bigger questions of morality, integrity and character.

18. it was posted here with a link, on DU
wait, it might be in my browser history....

but it had a link to the full debate... they talked about abortion... and it hadn't been edited, so I had to push it through till I found it.

The reason I mention the weapon... it's not about the manufacturer and model... it's silly, I know...

but I wonder if she even knows that we use shotguns to hunt ducks?

see?

25. here you go Debate 4/26/07
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/13/2564/66899/591/494706

"At the 4/26/07 Presidential Debate, there was a request for a show of hands as to who has had a gun in the house. Hillary responded in the negative, at least as pertains to her "adult lifetime". You'd think that she would want to answer in the affirmative if at all possible, and that if she grew up around guns she would go ahead and raise her hand regardless. But at the very least, it shows that Hillary has not, in her adult lifetime, been a "regular gal" gun owner."

"UPDATE 2: Apparently, way back in FEBRUARY of 2008, Hillary told a story about how she killed a duck when hunting with her father. Details are sketchy:

In an amazing coincidence just days before another crucial Democratic primary, Sen. Hillary Clinton, campaigning in Wisconsin -- where thousands build their annual vacations around deer-hunting season -- has let it slip that she went hunting once.

"I know you don't believe it," she told an enthusiastic audience at Kenosha's Brat Stop over the weekend, "but it's actually true. My father taught me to shoot 100 years ago."

According to The Times' Nicholas Riccardi, who was there, she then launched into an explanation of how school shootings can be stopped without infringing on gun owners' rights. She declined to elaborate on her hunting career later except to say that she had nailed a duck."

it's not like fishing... and that law's been in place since the early sixties or even fifties...

So, do you know anyone with the Dept of Fish and Game, Pennsylvania?

10. and this is from the campaign that's been harping about lying?
Speaking about how Americans value their Second Amendment rights and enjoy hunting prompted Clinton to tell a story about her own hunting experience.

"You know my dad took me out behind the cottage my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl," she said. "You know some people have continued to teach their children and their grandchildren. It's part of culture, it's part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it's part of who they are. not because they are bitter"

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/04/clinton-slams-o.html

"On guns, she said, "I have hunted. My father taught me how to shoot. I went duck hunting in Arkansas I remember standing there in that cold water it was so cold at first light I was with a bunch of my friends - all men -so the sun is up and the ducks are flying and they were playing a trick on me they were saying were not going to shoot - you shoot they wanted to embarrass me so the pressure was on. And I shot a banded duck they were as surprised as I was."

30. Oh you got me -- except I don't have "a candidate"
I'm still trying to decide between Hillary and Obama, but the so-called Hillary supporters are making it awfully hard to swing toward her. They are so nasty and bitter.

If I even ask a question about Hillary, her "supporters" begin shrieking at me and calling me names. Very unpleasant people.

No Obama supporter has ever called me a name or accused me of anything. They have, instead, said positive things about their candidate. That speaks volumes.

21. Clinton people ALWAYS think our ideas come from the campaign because that is how THEY operate.
They take their marching orders and talking points like good little soldiers, so they assume that Obama people do as well.

BTW, photo essays do little to persuade me of anything other than that one seeks desperately to be liked.

19. I'd vote for the first SOB who said he NEVER fired a gun
didn't want to and didn't even know which end of the gun to hold and didn't want to learn now. You know these beltway elitists would have a shitfit but how many of THEM own or regularly use firearms.

I remember when brian williams first took over the NBC news thing - he claimed he was able to relate to people in "middle america" because he owned a pellet gun. A pellet gun for chrissakes. My granddaughters own pellet guns. Yep that sure made ol' brian look like a macho good ol boy.

As a collector of antique firearms and a long time hunter I don't feel any empathy for these fake gun lovin politicians. I just wish they'd be honest.

39. No. Your post is a big lie.
The OP asked a question.
How can asking a question be a lie?
Only in HillaryWorld.

She was raised in Arkansas.
On this issue, I believe that in all probability Hillary really did go hunting and fired a gun.
I would be very surprised if she actually bagged a duck on the wing....not so easy for a rookie, but in the realm of possibility.

The really unfortunate aspect of this campaign is that Hillary has lied so many times that everything she claims must be verified.
