IS 'BITTER' STICKING IN NORTH CAROLINA? (In a word: No.)
From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
GOLDSBORO, NC -- As is evident from political journalists' email boxes today, the Clinton campaign appears to believe it's found a silver bullet -- served with a side of brie and chardonnay -- in Obama's recent controversial comments.

On the same day that Obama's opponents keep their eyes peeled for outrage from small-town America, Bill Clinton is doing a marathon six-stop campaign day in rural eastern North Carolina, a swing billed by one supporter as a "Barbeque Tour."

But the issue doesn't seem to be sticking. Clinton himself has been silent on the issue. But at the first two events of the day, the campaign has sent one of Carolina's hometown boys out to push the issue before Clinton takes the stage. Tom Hendrickson, a Clinton supporter and former Democratic Party chairman, included a reading of Obama's comments in his introduction of Clinton.

snip

By the third stop of the day in Goldsboro, Hendrickson did not even take the stage.

Yet it's unclear how spontaneous the sentiment was. A boxful of the stickers was spotted at Clinton's first event of the day -- being whisked backstage.

*** UPDATE *** The Clinton campaign in NC takes responsibility for the stickers, per a campaign aide, but says that the idea originally came from a volunteer.

I'm proud of my fellow North Carolinians and kudos to the Hillary supporters here for not biting.

4. I see the authors still don't even know which cities they were at still
the city's name is Wilson, not Winston.

6. Yes. I noticed that but
judging someone on something so trivial is beneath me.

Who outside of NC has heard of Wilson, compared to how many of heard of Winston/Salem? Understandable.

9. I would presume that the people who attended the rally
as the reporter supposedly did, and heard Wilson named over and over again. They should have had some clue.

12. I was at the wilson rally
and I know he misquoted the man as well. He didn't say any of the things the reporter said he said.

19. Why is it a scandal when a politician tells us the truth?
Many people are bitter. And with good reason. I feel fortunate that I have a good education and a good job at a major research university. So I'm not bitter because of my economic plight, but I am mad as hell. And Obama was telling the truth. So was Jeremiah Wright. My biggest gripe to-date with Barack was that he distanced himself too far from the reverend. I hope he stops trying to explain away the "bitter" comment and takes credit for it and tells the talking-head idiots that it's they who are out of touch with real Americans.

I'm a fifty year old white male agnostic NC native. I grew up with a mixture of racism and religion and threw that shit away many years ago. And so have most of the people that I still know from my childhood. Unfortunately I am worried about the redneck factor (not unique to the South by the way). But I think Obama's bitter comment may resonate with many of the Bubbas out there who are out of work and be sort of an antidote to those who get their daily dose of "news" from Rush.

Smart and shrewd have nothing to do with education or accent.

18. Only the political junkies pay attention to bullshit like this.
Tempest in a teapot. I was in Ft. Lauderdale all weekend. I heard NOTHING about this until I got home
and logged on here. Another pseudo-scandal for people here to freak out about. PUH-leeze. :eyes:
