Report from PA-Funny Story
15-20 Hillary supporters showed up outside the Bethlehem office to protest Obama today. I wish I was making this up. Oh well 15-20 people who aren't knocking on doors or making calls. What's with the protest all of a sudden? What were they protesting us campaigning in the Lehigh Valley. These people make no sense to me. Also its insanely stupid. There are registered democrats who are volunteering to make sure we have a Democratic President. Not all but some of us might be interested in volunteering for Hillary if she somehow wins the nomination. Protesting our office is not the way to encourage us to vote for your candidate or help her if she becomes the nominee in November. Was this some sort of intimidation? All they managed to do was make our resolve stronger here. I'm sure this was not sanctioned by the Clinton campaign but come on show some intelligence people.

39. Our friends at
Hillaryclintonforums.net organized a rally to demand the head of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews at the Today show. During part of their planning they thought of bringing pots and pans to "make noise". They went to the Today show 25 people showed up from the pictures they took (they claimed 150) and the Today show or no one else covered it except the Obama supporters at DU mocking them.

Hillary Clinton, Wellesley Girl

Flopped out in the Rio Grande Valley, nursing a cold, I've been reading Carl Bernstein's new biography of Hillary Clinton, trying to get a better sense of a woman I might well vote for come November 2008.

And at the end of the page:

Obamatized!

* "'And when our idealism spills into that kind of naivete and an unwillingness to acknowledge history and the weight of other cultures, then we get ourselves into trouble.'" (interview with Larissa MacFarquhar, The New Yorker 5/7/07)
* "But over the long haul, I think we make a mistake when we fail to acknowledge the power of faith in the lives of the American people, and join a serious debate about how to reconcile faith with our modern, pluralistic democracy." (Barack Obama, keynote address at the Call for Renewal Building a Covenant conference, June 28, 2006, entire text on the Sojourners magazine website)
* Threading the Niebuhrian Needle: "'So I asked, What do you take away from him ?' 'I take away,' Mr. Obama answered in a rush of words, 'the compelling idea that there's serious evil in the world, and hardship and pain. And we should be humble and modest in our belief we can eliminate those things. But we shouldn't use that as an excuse for cynicism and inaction. I take away... the sense we have to make these efforts knowing they are hard, and not swinging from naive idealism to bitter realism.'" (Thanks to David Brooks, NYT 4/26)

Whatever
Mullah Moments: our world through his eyes. Obamatized: I have to thank my husband for this one. When the day comes that I am no longer enamoured of Mr. O, I will put this list out to pasture.

.................

I found out about this from a Daily Kos blog -

Who the 'eff' is Mayhill Fowler????? (Leaked Obama's 'bitter' clip)

...............

Some on that site are saying her husband gave 25K contribution to HRC. I think someone in the media should do some more digging into this one. The fund raiser was apparently in a private home and was not supposed to be taped. This is posted on the Obama blog board:

How I spent my Sunday with Obama and the Mayhill Fowler Agenda
By Sandy - Apr 12th, 2008 at 5:50 am EDT

Imagine my surprise to see an article in the Huffington Post by Mayhill Fowler describing his answer as "a problematic judgment call in trying to explain working class culture to a much wealthier audience." and his answer being like "explaining the yawning cultural gap that separates a Turkeyfoot from a Marin County." I guess Ms. Fowler thought that, unlike herself, the other attendees had never gone outside the large house in Pacific Heights where the event was held. I grew up working class in Texas. I thought it ironic that Ms Fowler, was attempting to paint Obama as a condescending elitist, while at the same time she was stereotyping everybody at the event with her omniscient insight.

In any case, her agenda was clear. Despite Ms. Fowler talking about the people at the fundraiser being middle class in an earlier post, the "rich man poor man" theme fit better with the "Obama as a judgmental elite, talking to judgmental elites" spin. This also seemed to fit with some of her earlier articles where she had described Obama as cocky, arrogant, and even "flirty". What a coincidence that she now writes an article putting another twist on Obama's personality. All she had to do was a sneak a recorder in an small event for Obama supporters and do a little bit of crafty writing and out of context editing. Now Fox News and Lou Dobbs are having a field day.

(snip)

It was great seeing Obama in a relaxed setting, talking both in detail and inspiring prose, in what was essentially a large living room.

Too bad there were roaches under the sofa.

............

I hope KO looks into this or at least Huffington Post does some digging!

I wonder how many of those folks have ever protested the war, or media consolidation, or tax-breaks for millionaires, or the WTO, or unfair trade agreements....... I'm going out on a limb here but I'd say "no." You see, Hillary doesn't make an issue of those things. Instead she plays "molehill" politics looking for the tiniest slip to exploit.

68. "come on show some intelligence people."
That's what I kept asking Obama supporters in the beginning of this primary when they drug out those old republican talking points and slimed Hillary. And these same people wonder why democrats are sliming each other. Who the hell started it? They didn't think Obama would ever need their support so to hell with us and wanting to ever make amends and they burned their bridges. Maybe they should have cared! Now it is too late! There are no bridges left to cross/burn. Say hello to President McCain and 3 more conservative SCJs. Thanks! Obama supporters!

75. Whatever
No one's going to apologize. So what? Only allowed to stand for the 'important' issues now?

This is politics at its best...everyone's involved, even the small town folks who want Obama to know they are not bitter.

People call Jake a liar, and worse, and there's nothing to apologize for. Whatever indeed. :patriot:

78. No one called Jake a liar
Someone asked for links. Hardly calling someone a liar.

I am going to investigate too.

Taking this personally b/c you all are talking about my fellow PA peeps. I'd defend the Obama supporters the same way.

79. I guess questioning his credibility and calling him mentally ill is not
technically calling him a liar. I concede you the point. :hi:

and a bunch of people are like your not going to believe what is happening....I tend to believe them. If I'm wrong shame on me.

87. Even if it did happen...
...I still don't see anything wrong with it. I think it's cool that so many people are part of the political process.

When did Obama open an Allentown office? Is it on Hamilton St? I envy you guys having your main office in Bethlehem. That Brew Works is one of my favorite places (although the Allentown one is pretty good too).

Sorry, off-topic!

74. I think this is BS
and I will find out. I live right outside of Bethlehem and will post the real deal if I can get any proof of anything.

If they did, it was probably some overzealous supporters (oh gee, Hillary has those too?) who were carrying on the protest from Friday.

2 offices have confirmed reports in papers and I heard of the Bethlehem office second hand.

This is really low of your candidate and her campaign.

77. Protest was in Pittsburgh
According to the link Sniffa provided - not Bethlehem.

You live in the Lehigh Valley? I haven't seen one BO supporter yet, except outside the office in Bethlehem. You guys should come down near Emmaus - the Ron Paul signs everywhere are very disturbing. We should at least try to turn those people Dem!

81. I have knocked on close to 1500 doors
There was one in Bethlehem as well. It didn't get press coverage however. I have no reason to lie about it.

In the past five weekends I have knocked on about 1500 doors. Mostly in my township but in Emmaus and in Center City as well. Support in some areas is 50/50. I have yet though to hit a pro-Hillary neighborhood.

I don't think they have us working the same neighborhoods. I'm on a team of 20 for my township and we haven't seen any Hillary supporters out walking. My only guess is we are targeting different areas.
