Obama turns tables on Clinton
STEELTON, Penn. - Democrat Barack Obama lashed out Sunday at rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, mocking her vocal support for gun rights and saying her record in the Senate and as first lady belied her stated commitment to working class voters and their concerns.

<snip>

Then, laughing along with the union audience, Obama noted that Clinton seemed much more interested in guns since he made his comments than she had in the past.

"She is running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment. She's talking like she's Annie Oakley," Obama said, invoking the famed female sharpshooter immortalized in the musical "Annie Get Your Gun."

He continued: "Hillary Clinton is out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday. She's packing a six-shooter. Come on, she knows better. That's some politics being played by Hillary Clinton."

1. Guys in my Sportsmens Club loved that "Annie Oakley" line. While they all aren't
big Obama fans they loved his comeback to Hillary.

50. Hillary's gun experience
Dick Cheney challenged Hillary to a hunting trip with him at bostonherald.com. In the article, she states that she misspoke about her gun experience.

I didn't see this posted here anywhere.

"Senator Clinton took in $52,600, more than half of the total going to all Democrats, and a figure equaling 60 percent of the sum going to the entire GOP field. Her closest competitor for defense industry money is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R.), who raised $32,000."

with people suggesting he's not 'with it', not fresh & fly. It's an ego thing. Clinging on to the politics of division like its some kind of life preserver. Her campaign is sinking so she resorts to her true colors. I used to have nice things to say about the clintons and gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Rove would be proud. She does admire him.

Hilliary has openly stated that she admires Rove btw. Why does she embrace republican frames with such ease, these same frames that have hurt the democratic party and the progressive movement since the passing of civil rights legislation. It is apparent that she is part of the problem and not the solution.

Lastly the best you can do is to call me reptilian? Look in the mirror. Hill is behind, she can't win. In her desperation, her fight or flight response, she has chosen to embrace conservative ideology in order to tear a fellow democrat and the party down.

You cannot deny that the politics of division have gotten us to where we are. You cannot deny that Hilliary is carrying the conservative banner in this regard.

33. She refuses to recognize:
that republicans have been using the politics of division and culture wars since the passing of civil rights legislation in the 60's to divide the working class to the point that they vote against there own economic interests. Not only does she refuse the truth but attacks Obama for stating it.

Is that easy enough for you to understand. She has justified the abuse the conservative movement has done to our nation for the past 30+ years. She is a republican enabler.

70. Your Link Fu is weak, grasshopper...
your link had NOTHING TO DO with Cheney's energy task force and was in fact another bill.

Try again.

From Wikipedia:
The National Energy Policy Development Group was a group, created by Executive Order on January 29, 2001, that was chaired by Vice President Richard Cheney. The group, commonly referred to as the "Cheney Energy Task Force," produced a National Energy Policy report in May 2001.
(emphasis added) THIS was Cheney's bit - Obama was in the Illinois State Legislature at the time.

Please check your facts BEFORE you are so easily:

but you need to look at who hillary lists as one of her favorite presidents on her website. Yes, it is St. Raygun.

And how did Bill Clinton's foreign policy differ from Reagan's or Poppy's?

Bill supported and complimented Poppy for Gulf War I and continued the illegal no fly zones over Iraq, he even increased our military there and those no fly zones are what gave baby george a foothold or a "reason" for the invasion on iraq. (they were shooting at us, they violated the cease fire, but yet our presence was a violation) Bill even spoke highly of Reagan and said he would like to run his presidency like Reagans.

Bill began those no bid contracts - Halliburton received no bid contracts for work in Bosnia and Kosovo under clinton.

Bill began the extraordinary renditions in 1995.

Hillary said GWB has done good things and he has said she would make a great president.

The Clinton presidency set the ground work for where we are today and he did not go after those responsible for the BCCI crimes, many of whom were instrumental in the first years of the GWB admin and the invasion of Iraq.

So really, what you post is of very little consequence.

59. Hey merh, don't have allot of time gotta go to work...but I hear you...
Politicians are politicians. But B. Clinton's not just foreign policy but war planning was leagues different in that he authorized was from 17,5...way up there. Putting few forces on the ground as fodder & targets.

Unless you are prepared to just sit here and absorb strike after strike behind platitudes and bloody bandages, Dem presidents should be required to view the world as potentially dangerous. Rendition = Straw Dogs...and I think we have already agreed that there are those moments when all bets are off. It may be when swaggering, pernicious tyranny walks into your living and kicks your dog...but I will not fault you for rising to that occasion. But this is the sort of double-speak that rends "post(s) is of very little consequence" into turn-a-bout is more than fair play @ DU...

"but you need to look at who hillary lists as one of her favorite presidents on her website. Yes, it is St. Raygun"

If by agreeing with every republican Obama has put on the SCOTUS, or made AG, or voted for their energy plan? Then you should be voting for Hillary, right?

If there really is no difference :patriot:

Lady Bird Johnson had stock in KBR, a wholly owned subsidiary of Halliburton ;)

63. There is a difference
One huge difference - experience tells us the clintons just play the game and used our nation, she is using rovian tactics and doesn't give a damn about the party, sure the hell can't give a damn about the nation. I've challenged folks to see what she did relative to Katrina and what Obama has done, go read my journal, I've written on it before. That's a kicker for me, he has done things, she could care less.

And the huge difference, he isn't entrenched in the good ole boy system, he isn't owing a thing - is he playing it down the middle - you betcha, to win. Once he has office I see him as someone that wants to make the world better, not one who wants to use the position for clout and blow jobs and money.

Clintons are evil, known evil -- I'll take my chances with the fella that culturally is beyond anything the clintons could ever be and that sets him worlds above them. Upbringing and where you came from makes a difference.

"The Rove Legacy

By Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 15, 2007; Page A03

As he packs his desk just 15 steps from the Oval Office, Karl Rove says he will not join any 2008 presidential campaign. That's just as well because none of the Republican candidates presumably could afford the association even if they wanted his strategic smarts. Besides, none of them is running the campaign quite the way he would. The candidate who seems to be adopting his style and methods the most so far? Hillary Rodham Clinton.

At least that's what Nicolle Wallace thinks. The former Bush White House communications director, who worked closely with Rove, said that Clinton "has almost operationalized the whole idea of turning your weakness into strength, message discipline that is almost pathological -- she does not get off message for any reason -- and never skipping an opportunity to exploit her opponent's weaknesses."

<snip>

The Clintons recognize the skill Rove has brought to politics and admire his craft, if not his ideology. Just days after the November 2004 election, Bill Clinton pulled Rove aside at the dedication of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Arkansas. "Hey, you did a marvelous job, it was just marvelous what you did," Clinton told Rove, according to the book "The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008," by John F. Harris and Mark Halperin. "I want to get you down to the library. I want to talk politics with you. You just did an incredible job, and I'd like to really get together with you and I think we could have a great conversation."

<snip>

And why not? Harris and Halperin wrote last year that Rove and the Clintons shared some of the same understandings of how politics work, and the two authors even crafted a list they titled "What Hillary Clinton and Karl Rove Know About the Way to Win the White House in 2008." Clinton, they wrote, has "borrowed some strategies" from Rove for dealing with the news media, enemies and anticipated attacks. "Like Karl Rove," they wrote, "Hillary Clinton knows that playing offense is better than playing defense. . . . Hillary Clinton obviously dislikes Bush's policy goals, but she appreciates some of the methods he has used to achieve them."

46. amazing how many times he is framed with condescending and
with ego and cocky. In my day, during Jim Crow, when you wanted to slam a black man you called them those things. condescending=cocky=uppity=racism.

not fresh or fly.

God.
