Tracy Flick's Main Title Theme
I did enjoy CNN's Compassion Forum last night. It was an interesting, though slightly awkward, attempt to reach a significant percentage of democratic voters. While I favor Barack Obama, I thought that both candidates did well. However, I found myself thinking of the Reese Witherspoon character from the 1999 movie "Election." She played a high school senior running for class president. At first, she seemed the inevitable winner, because she was the only one in the race. When that changed, Tracy found religion:

"Dear Lord Jesus, I do not often speak with you and ask for things, but now, I really must insist that you help me win the election tomorrow because I deserve it and Paul Metzler doesn't, as you well know. I realize that it was your divine hand that disqualified Tammy Metzler and now I'm asking that you go that one last mile and make sure to put me in office where I belong so that I may carry out your will on earth as it is in heaven. Amen."

1. I just watched that movie ...
for the first time in over 10 years, and all I could think was that Tracy Flick was Hillary Clinton. That's what made the movie funny to me.
