I'm a rural voter and I'm bitter
Why wouldn't I be? The jobs here are gone, mostly because of foreign imports. Prices for everything have skyrocketed. There is little access to local healthcare. The towns are dying.

Hell, ya, I'm bitter.

Both candidates should jump on this. Let's lay it out for McCain to address since he's so much into continuing this war that's costing us money and lives. How is he going to fix this?

4. Happened to me in the early eighties
All the factories shut down here and all the good paying jobs were gone. You couldn't find even find a job for minimum wage! It took 15-20 yrs for our town to recover. We're still not back to where we were, but there are jobs available now. We had a casino built about 10 miles away that created thousands of jobs and eliminated the minimum wage only jobs people were forced to take. The casino pays well, and now there is a shortage of housing where once you couldn't give a house away! I own rent houses and apartments, so I'm doing well, but I struggled thru the hard years.

Hopefully, your city leaders will do the right thing to get some industry to come to your locale. without jobs, cities die.

5. I do hear it is hard to stay in Maine to get a good job.
My daughter is talking about leaving to get a better job and she is up near 100,000. What could she be thinking? I really think it is the dullness of having to go to Boston or some such place to do things that has got her, so she blames it on money. I guess if we could all pump water for as Fr. Co. we would be better off. Where have all the jobs gone? We should be dreaming up new ones. After all once we sold clean ice and made sailing ships and we learned to keep up with the times. We need to get our mind off oil and think for a new age.

6. And have you turned to guns and religion as a result?
That seems to be the part of Obama's remarks that is bothering people.

9. I haven't but I wasn't headed in that direction
I know many many people around here who have, though.

My point, however, was this is something both candidates should turn around on McCain. People in both CLinton and Obama camps are bitter. The Democrats can work on that.

8. All the peasants are bitter, according to Obama.
That's why they cling to their "antipathy toward people who aren't like them," according to Barack.

10. Rural does not equal peasants.
I think THAT is elitist and I tend to resent it.

11. And the part about bitter people have 'antipathy toward people who aren't like them'? True/ false?
As a bitter person could you please be kind enough to clarify this?

14. I see that, too
Many rural folks don't know anyone of other cultures. They have no other frame of reference.

15. But Obama said they have antipathy because they are bitter, not because they don't know anyone of .....
other cultures.

So is it true -or- is it false that people that are bitter have antipathy because they are bitter?
