Who will break the white male presidential/VP barrier first? Add why to your comments.

1. A male
mostly because women in general still get treated like second class citizens, and women of color will be treated even worse than their white counterparts...

2. I voted female.

After Clarence Thomas and Colin Powell, I think it would take a female like Maxine Waters to get the public trust. I lived long enough to see California elect two female senators--maybe I'll be here long enough to see a Clinton/Waters (Hillary and Maxine) White House. Personally I'd prefer Waters for Pres. and Hillary for Veep.

3. I voted female and..
I think the Presidential candidate would be Hillary Clinton.
As for a potential VP candidate, I would choose someone who has governed a state over a Senator...Perhaps Governor Napolitano of Arizona.

4. Does Kerry have the guts/smarts to do it this time?
I wish he did, but I only hear the names of white men being considered seriously. It simply doesn't make sense to have all white male tickets anymore. It doesn't help us win and there are many qualified people of color.

8. It'll be either Hillary or Colin Powell.
Since Powell doesn't want to be Prez (or at least he used to not want to be), that leaves only Hillary.

10. If the war on terror doesn't "cool off" it's more likely to be a man
of color. I know people don't like it, but alot of people just associate females more with domestic issues, and have more confidence in males of any color on military stuff. Before Iraq REALLY spun out of control I thought Mary Landrieu was a strong contender for Kerry to pick but not so much any more.

I think that Harold Ford or someone will get into the whitehouse or vp office before a woman now if we continue to be engaged with radical islam in a hot way.

12. Colin Powell in 2008.
After the GOP loses the White House this year, Powell could end up on a ticket in 2008. Since the right wing of the GOP is acting a bit irrational as of late, maybe the party will move toward the middle with a McCain/Powell ticket.

14. Powell has blown his political career
He has been a tool for the bush administration and he will never be elected to office. He will have to settle for political jobs given to him by a grateful GOP.

13. A right of center white female
a la Maggie Thatcher.

She would take the right coalition and a certain percentage of wing nuts who would vote for a woman on symbolic grounds no matter what she represented.

Next I would think a right of center person of color -- either gender. Next a left white female, and dead last a left person of color (unless you count Clinton).

15. Woman
We are more than half of the population and if we ever get our act together and stop beleiving the white guy network (that we can not win) we will win purely on numbers.
Contrary to popular belief that woman will be left of center. Most women are left of center.
