The Pulpit Problem

Barack Obama may have put the Rev. Jeremiah Wright behind him, but it appears nobody else has — particularly not The Chicago Sun Times, which slipped a reporter into a memorial service for one of Wright’s former congregants over the weekend. “On Saturday Wright made his first extensive public remarks since the controversy began,” reports Art Golab. “He did revisit the topic of America’s mistreatment of blacks, saying America’s founding fathers ‘planted slavery and white supremacy in the DNA of this republic… ‘ ”

Allahpundit at Hot Air is more interested in Wright’s condemnation of Fox News (or “Fix News” as he referred to it on Saturday) and comments that “Sean Hannity’s stupid fantasy will keep him forever stuck on stupid when it comes to comprehending how you can love a brother who does not believe what you believe.” He continues:

Serves Fox right for breaking this story wide open last month. Except, of course, it wasn’t Fox who broke it, it was Brian Ross at ABC. Since there’s nothing to be gained by demagoging ABC, O’Reilly and Hannity become the scapegoats, replete with dopey Olbermannesque pun on FNC’s name as a sort of dog whistle to the left to let them know now’s the time to start scapegoating their favorite hobbyhorse for daring to report that this cretin believes America’s responsible for AIDS.

While the Obama camp seems to be keeping mum on this, I doubt we can expect Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity do the same.

Obama needs to do a much better job of addressing the guns and religion mistake fast - admit more mistake and move on.

His baggage is stacking up and the handlers are going to be brutal with it.

1. It shameful that his paper didn't respect the wishes of this family

They sent out press releases and had it posted on every entrance that there was to be no media. The family was going to have a family spokesmand meet with the press after the service. This person was a highly respected Judge and the least they could have done is respect the family's wihses. This was shameful. And he didn't even tell the full story on Wright's sermon.

Obama is not required to account for every word Wright says.
