Florida Caller to C-Span Nails the Crux of Obama’s Offensive Remarks about Small-Town Pennsylvanians

Truer words. This articulate caller gets the media’s mis-focus on his remarks. She gets what Obama was saying: that small-minded small-town Pennsylvanians are bigots. She also gets that his comments will do long-term damage to his candidacy (particularly if he’s the nominee in the general election).

He offended many, contrary to his disciples beliefs.

45. not true
but he lumped together factions of people who are NOT that homogeneous. Not all religious people are gun owners, or from small towns. Not all bigots are from small towns..many live in suburbia, and hate guns. Obama furthered a cultural stereotype that has nothing to do with bitterness. Yes, there are bitter people...but the outcome of that bitterness does not result in religious fervor or clinging to firearms. Hey, I'm an atheist..who loves firearms. Is that some sort of contradiction? of course not. Do I have religious nuts in my family who live in small towns? yup...and they were that way BEFORE they lost jobs etc. Stereotypes never pass the smell test. That said...I think Obama can still win this one...he just really needs to think before he speaks to ANY audience.

47. far from it
I am far to the left of most people here and have a big problem with his remarks. I resent being characterized as a bigot and a "repuke."

But your statement does not defend Obama - quite the opposite. You are saying that his remarks were condescending and arrogant, but who cares since "those people" are worthless, anyway. That is the problem.

don't worry...soon mon.... lol....You have no idea...otherwise, you'd STFU about what a lot people already know... Obama can NOT erase the truth...That being It doesn't if a crime were charged...What matters is Obama's associations, His assocciation's 'POLITICS'..His history..Their history....Although not in the MSM now...I would be prepared for a quick and swift attack on Obama's Judgement! And these associations...will hurt him.

7. Bush's own bitter remark: "Look, I know people are frustrated...."
He said that recently out of frustration about questioning involving the foreclosure crisis.

The thing we Americans must do is to let our leaders know that they shouldn't characterize us this way. Saying we're bitter or frustrated isn't going to fix it. We need people to fix this mess!

13. People that are offended are idiots
Every single one of them has taken what he has said and twisted the context around totally. They took it to mean that their (fanatical) love of God and Guns was under attack.

In reality he was pointing out how Republicans use those tools to sucker these people into voting against their economic wellbeing.

Bush and the Rubber Stampers had Congress and the Judiciary for 6 years. Did they try to end Abortion? Nope. How about that Gay Marriage Constitutional Amendment? Nope, didn't go anywhere. What about a serious relaxation of gun ownership laws? Well people might recall tat Bush was actually in favor of retaining the laws put in place under the Clinton Administration.

Republicans blew smoke up everyone's asses to divide them and make them think these were the serious issues of the day. Then once in office they destroyed the economy. They gave contract after contract and giveaway after giveaway to corporations who shipped these people's jobs overseas. They spent more than any so-called "tax and spend" Democratic Congress ever has.

They deregulated everything and allowed predatory lending to go so rampant that now everyone is losing our houses and our economy is teetering on the brink of collapse into a Great Depression-like state.

People have a right to be bitter and Obama is right to say people are.

My personal opinion though is that the people that are angry that he would say that are idiots. They are likely the ones that STILL haven't awaken to see what their hero Bush has left them. If you are not bitter or angry about how our economy is in shambles, our military is overextended and exhausted, our constitution and civil liberties have been trampled and ignored, our world standing erased and our environment getting us near the brink of extinction thanks to the last 8 years....
then you are a fool of epic proportions and deserve to be deported to a country where your blind ignorance and ridiculous defense of it does less damage. We had 8 years of Bush because of a blind, ignorant electorate and I'll be damned if those people, the people who are offended now, have any further control in who runs our country... or as they would have it, who runs our country into the ground.

30. It was a mistake on his part, but I don't think fatal
While I think it would have been better for him to phrase his comments differently or even just ignore the guns, god and gays crowd, I don't think it's fatal to his or other Dem campaigns this fall. And I think he's done a pretty good job of explaining his remarks, as well. Most of the people who will use that as an excuse to vote McCain probably weren't going to vote for us anyway.

The call in part? Yep, where everybody changes their Party affiliation and thats the place to announce it?

4 out of 5 callers it seems preface their diatribe with:

"I was a Democrat for 40 years but,...blah...blah..."

"I was a Republican for 50 years but, blah...blah..."

Some folks get so uptight they slop gruel on their afghans and scream "Liberals" at the TV.

LOL
