And the GOP Racism starts.....U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis calls Obama "a boy"
Will McCain denounce and reject Davis

U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, a Hebron Republican, compared Obama and his message for change similar to a "snake oil salesman" .

He said in his remarks at the GOP dinner that he also recently participated in a "highly classified, national security simulation" with Obama.

"I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said. "He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country."

Metaphorically, of course

13. What a weak-chinned, pencil-necked GOP bastard
If he is going to refer to a black man as "boy", he better not have such a glass jaw. It looks like I could knock him over with a feather.

7. Lord, don't get me started.
This part of Kentucky produces doozies. Senile Jim Bunning joked at a Republican fundraiser that his senatorial opponent (of Italian extraction) "looks like Saddam Hussein's sons." The electorate chose the aptly-named idiot Geoff Davis over Nick Clooney. And then there's the Creationist Museum...

12. I think he knew exactly what he was saying.
He is speaking to a part of the electorate that we should not deny is out there. Unfortunately, I think we are going to hear a lot of this kind of garbage. I think Obama will just ignore it and let these kinds of people show themselves for what they are.

15. I think we have to be careful.
I don't know if his comments were neccessarily racial in their implications (I mean, maybe they were, but I don't know if I would assume that). I think they go more to the core of "boy, upstart, inexperienced dope" narrative. Heck, even Hillary Clinton called Obama a "young man" once when she was praising him. If I were to criticize the remarks, I would personally go the root of "that's disrespectful" rather than "that's racist", because Republicans could just use that as "See, the Democrats are pulling the race card at everything."

22. we shouldn't fail to condemn racist speech just because the repubs might
say we're playing the race card. The word has a pretty clear history, and Davis should be thoroughly condemned for his remark.

Bigots love to dismiss all talk of such things as playing the race card. I say let them go for it. It's a BS meme anyway, and it ought not stop anyone from calling out racist language. Davis is the one who should have been careful.

It's difficult to find a scenario where an innocent explanation is plausible. That said, I agree with your point -- applying racist labels won't help in the GE, true or not.

27. Mr. Davis is 3 years older than Barack Obama
Oh, and when it comes to nasty scandals, Mr. Davis is in them up to his elbows:

Contributors

The Davis campaign has received contributions from the Americans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee (ARMPAC), which was led by former Texas Congressman Tom DeLay. As of June 30, 2006, according to the Federal Election Commission, of the 2.4 million dollars contributed to the Davis campaign for the current 2006 electoral cycle, $10,000 was contributed by ARMPAC. Tom DeLay is the subject of indictments sought by Ronnie Earle, the district attorney for Travis County, Texas, alleging violations of Texas campaign-finance law. Judge Pat Priest has dismissed one indictment against DeLay, the second has not yet come to trial. The charges against DeLay are considered by some to be politically motivated. Democrats have indicated that they consider the ARMPAC contributions to be a campaign issue. Davis has not, as of June 2007, been accused of any misconduct.

Davis has received donations from Republican Duke Cunningham, who pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. Davis has not chosen to give back the money from Cunningham, while many other recipients have. Davis received a donation from Congressman Bob Ney, who pleaded guilty for bribery and his involvement with convicted felon Jack Abramoff.

I love teh Wikipedia - Davis' boy comment is already there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Davis

http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/davis-apologizes-for-calling-obama-boy-2008-04-14.html

In the written apology to Obama, which he personally delivered to his Senate office, Davis wrote “my poor choice of words is regrettable and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity. I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness.”

“It’s hard to tell what is more outrageous - Rep. Davis’s condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

32. boy is racist?
Is girl too?

Is it considered the 'b' word?

You really think America wants a new politically correct dictionary? Every comment about Obama is racist?

McCain has what to do with Davis' comments?

PLEASE, get a grip.
