Davis has apologized to Obama.
Dear Senator Obama:

On Saturday night I gave a speech in which I used a poor choice of words when discussing the national security policy positions of the Presidential candidates. I was quoted as saying "That boy's finger does not need to be on the button."

My poor choice of words is regrettable and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity. I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness.

Though we may disagree on many issues, I know that we share the goal of a prosperous, secure future for our nation. My comment has detracted from the dialogue that we should all be having on legitimate policy differences and in no way reflects the personal and professional respect I have for you.

Sincerely
Geoff Davis

1. Props to Davis for this.
I honestly think that the "boy" reference was because Obama is "young" for a senator, not because he's black. And Davis' quick response is commendable.

17. Davis is only 49.
I thought the same thing at first too, before I looked it up.

25. That's why his "apology" was so profuse. It looks bad.

23. As long as there's a theoretically possible explanation, it ain't racism...

26. Fuck him.
He gets no props for that sorry ass apology. He should have never said it in the first place. That is how he really feels and he should wear the shame of being a backwoods bigot for the rest of his meaningless, sorry life.

7. He may not have meant to "to impugn his integrity"
but he sure as hell meant to get the racial jab in there.

I hope Obama laughs this off.

And in all fairness, either he, or another one of the people at that function, made a really despicable joke about Bill/Hillary, too, which deserves an apology IMO.

18. That was my first reaction too.
It wasn't Obama's integrity that was impugned.

20. Yep- and he's unapologetic about that....
largely due to the fact that it helps him in his gerrymandered district.

14. Yes -- that was who I was trying to think of.
No way he can pretend HIS remark didn't mean to impugn the Clintons.

24. I notice he had to restate the slur verbatim in his apology
just in case anyone missed it the first time. But at least it wasn't a "I'm sorry if anyone was offended" bullshit non-apology. I'll give him credit for that at least.
