I'm going to try something here that I doubt will work...
I want all Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards, Kucinich supporters to post in reply to this.
I want to call a DU truce. Instead of bashing the hell out of the guy who did win, or the possible VPs, or the guy who keeps running regardless of the nomination being settled...
I want to put all of that to an end.
It's fair to disagree with the candidates or surrogates on certain things and the truce isn't meant to hinder you from productively making your point on how they could better fix their strategies.
But I want everyone to stop bashing the other candidates or their supporters and post here in truce with one another that we'll stop doing this and unite to take out the Right this November.
And I don't just mean with Kerry. I mean from the Senate, to the House, to your local State elections. All the way up and down I want to win this thing. I want us all to make a pledge to join forces here, to stop bashing each other and their favorite candidates because we all need each other to pull this country back from the Right.
Can we disagree on things? Sure. But we can say it in ways that don't flamebait each other and gets the point across in a manner where you're not tearing down the candidate and giving the RW radio hosts reading material.
I want everyone to post on this truce below, and I expect those who do to stick by it.
We need every one of the Dems elected or running to be successful if we want to take back Washington, and we need every one of you to help us do it. Your votes are your voice and if we can unite and take Washington back, all the worries about Kerry leaning Right will be pointless because he'll have a Democratic nation to answer to.
And that's what I want and what I am working for. I hope you all join me in making this truce.
It may not be 100% effective, but we can considerably tone down the negative rhetoric against each other here. And we can start right now.

1. Ok... I won't bash anyone. |
|
I think the only time I bashed anyone was that one time I lost my head and hated Kerry for about half a day, but I admitted my mistake and apologized. I think a truce is a good plan, it's been kind of ugly lately (I've been reading but posting less than usual).

It's actually very easy. Each time one of us gets mad at a Dem, just look at a picture of AWOL. We gotta keep focused on the real enemies here.

But, with all respect, I really don't think you should post blatantly anti-Kerry stuff even if it appears to make interesting points. There is just too much at stake here to be flaming for the sake of sensationalism.

I've always avoided saying anything negative about any candidate or possible VP choice who is working for Kerry. I will defend Edwards when he is attacked, but it is totally counter productive to attack other Democrats...
Actually, all I can add is read my signature...Edwards says what I feel better then I do.
If we fight each other we will loose in Nov.

I'm on board with Kerry. But first he still needs to be nominated, then those of us who voted for others in the primaries can make official blood loyalty oaths...
As far as state candidates go...let's wait until the state primary. Some of these primaries don't happen until July or August. In Louisiana the nonpartisan Primary doesn't occur until November, and then a runoff may occur in December. So Democrats should have every opportunity to express the differences of these primary candidates at DU while they can! :headbang:

That is putting off the inevitable. Kerry may not have officially accepted the Nomination, but it's his and there's nothing that will change that.
As for your local primary candidates, I never said anything about them, but be careful what you do say because if your selection loses you don't want to set yourself in total hatred mode against the candidate for which you now should vote.

28. How is expressing my honest opinion stalling? |
|
I have been supporting Kerry months before the convention. I just don't believe that other Kucinich supporters have a duty to do this until Kerry is nominated.
As far as primary candidates go, they are our candidates...not just mine but the majority of state candidates running in the state primaries. So the suggestion that expressing support for different candidates for Congress or the U.S. Senate is only my battle is wrong, this is the battle of Democratic primary voters in most states. I have held no feelings of total hatred, not in the Presidential primaries...and not today. I believe that my postings at DU, and my volunteer work during this campaign tells the rest of the story on this matter.
I hope in the future we can discuss such matters without bringing it down to such a personal level!

Normally a request like that could feel too much like lockstep, but this is not a normal time in our country. We've been in a NATIONAL EMERGENCY since the 2000 selection and even more so since the 2004 elections.
I agree with the idea, and you've got my cooperation!

And I have also commented on the Clark and Edwards camps seemingly continuing a civil war, or maybe not so civil.
But there was a thread with a similar tone in GD, and it is nice to see a coming together type of spirit beginning to form. I'm not against debate, but really there should be a clear line between fair and spirited debate, and out and out attacking and mudslinging.
Good to see a mod step forward and post something like this!

16. Sure, but what's the definition of "bash"? |
|
I think that's where the confusion comes in. What someone may consider to be merely pointing out why, say, Edwards, would be better than Clark as V.P., someone else might consider to be bashing of Clark. Depends on your point of view.
(P.S.---I don't think I have bashed anyone, and I've certainly not had that intention. I'm just commenting on why some think there's bashing, and some may not think so.)

Nothing else.
Kerry fanatics will have to learn the hard way that most people will not love their idol like they do, and I have no desire to befriend or work with Kerry fanatics.
Instead of helping Kerry, I'm helping my district revert back to the Democrats, that's the most you'll get out of me.

And for the rest, please give the guy 100 days to suggest you're being a little pessimistic. Bush ran in the center and governed squarely from the right. With a Congressional push, Kerry could do likewise from the left. But all the best rhetoric in the world doesn't mean anything if you don't make it to Inauguration.

Bush has screwed things up so bad that Kerry will not have time for a honeymoon. If Kerry the Slacker, which he has been lately, takes that attitude into the White House, should he win, he'll be a one-termer himself.

More and more people are dropping out, and as it gets closer to the formal declaration of a candidate, many more of us will be gone.
It won't be long now until there all people of like mind here, so don't worry about a truce..... it's happening naturally.
Of course, DUers seem to like contention, so there will always been things to fight about.
Rest easy........

It's been 1600 Pennsylvnia Ave. Be Relentless NO Surrender for almost a year now. I even used it to buck up Deanie's after the Iowa caucuses.
I took it out because I got so tired of all the Dem bashing, it was to make a point, although I'm not sure anybody noticed.
Can I have it back now? Are we all ready to fight to beat every single solitary Republican AND to take back the White House?
Be Relentless! NO Surrender!

No if ands or buts.
I think BTW that the primary campaign was good for all of us. It was rough, but it strengthened us.
Let's all hope, not just for the Democrats, but for the country and the world at large that John's taking the oath in January. That might well be the happiest day of my political life.
(It would be sweeter of course if the limo departing with the usurper heads straight for Leavenworth.)
