Letters in the St. Pete Times, Dean, Rush, other subjects...good ones.

This reminds me why I love this paper. Other papers get letters like this. Most refuse to print many of them. Good varied topics, had to put in GD2004 because several are about Dean.

This part of one letter is excellent.
SNIP.." I find particularly offensive the unwillingness to consider honestly what Howard Dean meant by his comment about pickup trucks and the Confederate flag. Dean meant - and you know that he meant - that it is important for Democrats to show working-class people how they have been victimized by Republican leaders who have used racial prejudice to gain their support and keep them from seeking services they deserve. On the basis of that prejudice, plus superficial appeals to patriotism, these working-class people allow themselves to be denied benefits so that the rich can be made richer.

Dean knows that the fox is not only in the chicken coop but that he is being applauded by the chickens. That's what he wanted to discuss, and the only mistake he made was apologizing. The Democrats have lost the South because of their timidity in addressing this issue.

His golfing buddy, who's son is high up in the Navy, keeps telling him to cancel the subscription. Dad says he gets it for the sports. I just got back from Tampa and loved reading all those * bashing letters to the editor.

2. I also love the St Pete Times - pity their opinion articles and letters

to the editor - both on the right and on the left - are not duplicated in other media. And the story selection person is not afraid of truth telling about Bush lies.

Last week's story on Jeb's worries that the 12000 he is letting back on the voter registration roles, out of the 94000 he took of, and given that only 3000 qualified for removal, as Jeb meets the conditions of the settlement of the 2000 election NAACP court suit with his "best effort",

and the editorial on the catch-22 of taking monies from schools that need to give to schools that do not need as much

(urban schools with English as 2nd lang and other problems were getting cuts in state aid as more money went to schools not as needing, all in the name of punishment for good getting great scores on Jeb's exams - while Jeb holds down Ed spending so as to keep Fl at 45th in the nation per capita - and has the balls to go on TV at Xmas to tell the 03 big lie - how he has "fixed" Ed in most areas and in 04 will attack the remaining problem - middle school education - he does not even say what the hell the problem is!)

A great paper!

This column by Elizabeth L. Robbins sounded like something the White House wrote.

This newspaper was a beacon of light during the selection.
