46. That was the closest Ford, as DLC chair, could come to endorsing Obama without being explicit |
|
Everybody who has following the polls knows Clinton has almost no shot in North Carolina. Obama has won the black vote in all 42 states thus far (his low is 61%--in NY. Everywhere else he gets 75+ and since Super Tuesday 80+, usually the high 80's and 90% in the last state) and will get 85-90% in NC. This is unique in that there is no deviation, no fluctuation like there is with some of Obama's other bases or Clinton's bases (women, working class whites, seniors, Latinos). You can take the 85-90% black support in NC for him to the bank. That alone would bring him to 27-30% overall. All he needs is a modicum of white support, which will not be hard to do given the postindustrial areas of NC which are full of "Starbucks" voters, and he is over the top. Anything else is gravy. Of course Ford knows all this. He is given an implicit endorsement of Obama, who he knows will almost certainly win NC, and hence he can hide behind Obama winning NC to support him. The only way Clinton could win NC, given as 42 states have shown that Obama's black support is rock solid, is to win over 70% of the white vote. She has done that in only three or four states out of 42, and she has never gotten close to the 85-90% range Obama usually is in. It is unlikely she will reach that level in NC. The only way that will happen is if Obama tanks due to smalltowngate...

And his family name is well known in Tennessee in politics. I may not agree with everything he says but when you listen to him speak he is very knowledgeable. Frankly, when he ran for Senate he was Swiftboated by racist commercials and that was the reason he lost.

I'll be 60 this year ... my husband will be 66. My mother (82) and my step-father (87), my sister (48) have decided to sit this out ... we will not vote for Obama. None of us will vote for McCain, but we certainly are not voting for Obama. Two of us in Ohio, two in Florida, and, one in Nevada. Adult children of ours in New Jersey will not vote for Barak Obama ... they have decided also if he is the nominee, they will not vote for him. It's lies upon lies ... he talks about change but he's nothing but a phony.

Don't vote for the Democrat in the election? Then shut the fuck up. Don't bitch. Don't complain about McCain. Just sit there with you holier than thou attitude and don't say a fucking word.
If voting for your candidate is more important than helping this country get through this republican built crisis then just sit there withholding with your vote like the spoiled child you are.
It's obvious you care more about your own ego than this country.

|
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 06:19 AM by jackson_dem
To expect NC to be any different is nonsense being promoted by folks who are setting the bar to a level they know Clinton cannot clear due to this. There is no state where Obama loses blacks. He lost Arkansas in a landslide yet still got the same black support he does everywhere. This is a very unique phenomenon. Obama's support among his other groups, youth, and affluent voters fluctuates by state (as has the voting pattern of every other group. There are trends of groups tending to favor a candidate but nothing like a group voting 80-91% in 41 of 42 states for the same candidate). He usually wins them but sometimes he doesn't. For instance in PA he is losing young voters and about tied with affluent voters. The key difference is he has never gotten 80-91% of the youth or affluent vote, aside from perhaps the Idaho caucus where he won 79% overall. In a primary? Never anywhere close to it.

With overwhelming, as in 80-91%, black support in each of them, just as Mitt Romney coincidentally won all the states with significant Mormon populations, including winning Utah with 91% to McSame's 5%. Are we not supposed to notice the obvious? JFK got the support of four out of five Catholic voters in 1960. Why was that? What difference on the issues were there between him and Nixon?
