New comments from BET Founder: Obama Camp has "a hair-trigger on anything racial."
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 11:59 PM by truthpusher
I don't know what to think about this... is it just me, or does feel like a double standard? Here is a prominent African American telling another prominent African American that he is using race negatively... now isn't that what he just did? WTF! If Hilary doesn't tell this guy to shut up soon... this will surely hurt her.

BET founder takes on Obama, race
The Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --The billionaire founder of Black Entertainment Television says Barack Obama would not be a leading presidential candidate if he were white and that the Illinois senator's campaign has "a hair-trigger on anything racial."

The Charlotte Observer reported on its Web site Monday that Bob Johnson, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton's top black supporters, was commenting on remarks previously made by Geraldine Ferraro, another Clinton supporter.

"What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called 'Jerry Smith' and he says I'm going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote?" Johnson said. "And the answer is, probably not."

"Geraldine Ferraro said it right," Johnson added. "The problem is, Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair-trigger on anything racial it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything."

20. Well, when the Clintons make racially insensitive comments, don't expect to get away with it
Clinton supporters have labeled Obama supporters as 'sexist' over FAR less.

When the Hillary campaign dismisses Obama's performance in South Carolina, saying that black candidates always do well there, that's not racially insensitive?

When Hillary supporters say Obama is only where he is because he's black isn't racially insensitive? (the irony here is hilarious - would Hillary be where she is now if her last name wasn't Clinton? Fair is fair...)

When Bill Clinton mocks an Obama ad, throwing in a comment "at least he doesn't steal cars", that's not racially insensitive?

63. So Does Obama. That's What's So Funny About It
"typical white person"

In the long run, I think his campaign is giving some parts of America an opportunity to shout some resentments at each other and I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing for race relations; for a presidential campaign, I'm not so sure.

82. he had to separate the black vote from the Clintons
or he didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of continuing in the primary.

He said he 'didn't know' his campaign did that. Bullshit.

Jackson Jr compared him to OJ and asked how can Obama attack a white woman.

There has never been a more racist campaign than Obama's.

I remember LL Cool J, Run-DMC and Public Enemy. The issues I have with BET is that they will play that 50 cent gangsta rap crap and give little air time to socially conscious artist such as The Roots or Arrested Development ( who recently made a comeback ). I guess that shoot em up, video vixen crap is popular but it does nothing to further the black community. Bob Johnson needs to get off his high horse because he could of done something great with BET. Instead BET is another nonsense channel perpetrating stereo-types that are not good for the black community.

13. This article is more race-baiting from Clinton's camp
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 11:42 PM by Quixote1818
Obama's campaign is doing everything they can to stay away from being labeled the "Black Candidate". Hillay's campaign has tried several times to try to bait him into being the "Angry Black Man" and from time to time someone from his campaign has taken the bait, but Obama and those close around him know better. Obama is doing well because he is an incredible communicator and connects with people. Those who say he is winning because he is black are simply out of touch with reality. His campaign knows they have to make Obama seem white for him to win. He has to come across like Bill Cosby, Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. The second he seems "black" to people he loses votes. Thats just a fact.

So, what is this article about? It's about reminding people Obama is black. More race-baiting crap from the Clinton camp.

Check out Larry Johnson's headline on this post: Saddam Hussein, Barack Hussein Obama’s Hidden Real Estate Partner?

I'm getting tired of this shit from "Democrats" As a minority, one reason I hardly vote GOP (I voted for Arnold over Angelides and his GOP-like scandals) is because of the open racism. As far as I'm concerned, I will never vote for Hillary if she wins. As a matter of principle, I will never support a candidate or supporters that are likely to call me a racial epithet behind my back or under their breath.

At least the GOP and their supporters are willing to say it to my face, so I at least have to give them credit for that.

67. WOW. Any Obama supporter who doesn't know who Emil Jones is very uninformed about their candidate
Jones built Obama's fraudulent record in Illinois by giving him every major bill in 2002 so he could then use them in his senate run. The problem? Others had fought for them for years and the sponsorship of the bills were taken from them and given to Obama so he could have a (fake) record to run on.

61. Obama only helped insure 150,000 kids, helped IL take death penalty off the table, helped pass
Illinois' first earned-income tax credit to help the working poor, helped pass the first ethics and campaign finance law in IL n 25 years. Yeah, you're right not much accomplished there. :eyes:

Of course, Hillary does also have First Lady experience, where she steered the Clinton health care plan into the ground with her stubbornness ,championed NAFTA, and dodged sniper fire in war zones.

68. Too bad his entire Illinois "record" is a total fraud. Find out who Emil Jones is
And then learn how much of a fraud the messiah is.

62. Johnson is a lying sack of shit
who has NO insight into the Obama campaign. He's the pig who said Obama was doing drugs in the hood while Hill was working her little heart out for AA causes and then lied about it. He's an elitest creep who's worked to get rid of inheritance taxes.

64. If BET had a different corporate name without "Black" in it
then the cable network would have completely gone bankrupt because its programming can be found elsewhere. Note that AA Cathy Hughes owns a similar cable network with a race neutral name - TV One.

Johnson's cable network has such a hair-trigger on anything racial it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything.

Would he agree with that statement? No? See how that game gets played? :eyes:

70. What a dumb ass! Obama didn't start off with 90% of the black vote.
He had to earn the black vote, just like he had to earn every vote he's gotten so far.

71. Sounds spot on to me
This campaign is deeply divisive and has played the race card to perfection - well almost. Perhaps the tide will turn in time. I certainly hope so. this last offensive little cloth-eared outburst is just one of many missteps along a fault-line.

Maybe - one by one the supercilious assumed superiority of Obama will wear thin on even more people. The GOP is slathering at the prospect.

73. Exactly.
And when confronted with his perpetuating the negative images, he tosses it off because his sole raison d'etre is making $$$$. And don't forget this is the same man who did a below-the-belt broadside to try to look hip in front of the Clintons with:

"Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood. I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in his book."

He doesn't know what a "high road" is and neither he nor the Clintons will ever know.

76. Hillary would never have been elected to the Senate
had it not been for her last name. Put her lack of qualifications on a white man's resume (or a black man's) or hell, another white woman minus that Clinton last name and she would never, ever have been elected to the Senate, nor would she have been qualified to run for the presidency.

83. anyone who criticizes Obama is going to be ridiculed by his camp
If he was for Obama the supporters would be fawning over his every word of support like he was some sage. it's hilarious that you think he shouldn't be allowed to criticize Obama on race because he's also black.

in our history since the civil war.

Look what it has done to the dem party, and we want to take this crap into a national campaign against the repubs? Bullshit.

It is the last thing this country needs.

It could be said that's it's Hillary that's dividing the party. Many will agree that it's Hillary.

It's funny that some of you think otherwise.
