Has Obama written his political epi-gaffe?
The ebb and flow of the Democratic presidential race is an amazing thing to watch. Just when Barack Obama starts narrowing the gap in Pennsylvania and appears close to having Hillary Clinton on the ropes, a landmine explodes under him.

While it's not the only thing disturbing his campaign in recent days, Obama's major gaffe about small town America poses the most serious threat to what has seemed to be the inevitability of his capturing the nomination.

One of his challenges has been connecting with working class voters outside of cities, considered crucial in Pennsylvania's primary next week and later in the general election. Such voters have tended to go for Clinton. Asked about this at a fund-raiser for left-wing contributors in San Francisco, Obama gave the now notorious reply that these voters, in responding to economic stress, "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them."

Someone in the company of people who thinks like he does tends to let his guard down, be candid and reveal his true sentiments. The Harvard-educated resident of Chicago's liberal Hyde Park community was articulating the values of the left-wing Democrat elites.

80. It may not be a wish but rather
a real fear.

We have to win in November. Gaffes like this are a gift to the GOP. And I am not so sure it was a "gaffe" - except politically. I think it is what he really believes - except for the bit about the Clinton economy - that was a deliberate deception.

42. In order for that to happen, you gotta hope that a substantial number
of those he undoubtedly offended will do a serious gut check

Imagine if Adlai Stevenson had made those remarks - he (and Obama) kept (and no doubt will keep) the people who normally would have voted for him anyway - but the rest decided back in '52 - egghead, doesn't really understand me,.....Obama just better stick to discussing economic situations and policies to correct said situations and leave the anthropolical, socialogical references for someone else to utter.

72. WHO is unelectable?
Who has registered hundreds of thousands of new voters?
Who has inspired the young people to vote? That demographic that usually doesn't even turn up for GEs
Who has inspired that other demographic, black America, to vote in huge numbers?
Who has even some Republicans saying they could vote for him?

The answer is NOT Clinton. If Obama were unable to reach all those new and formerly infrequent voters, then he would be unelectable. But he does reach them, and Mrs. Clinton does not. It's a new world out there, Craftsman.

14. who is hillary clinton?
In my opinion, she's a crass, self-entitled, delusional woman clinging to her husband's coattails. She's arrogant, a filthy liar, and covered in dirty money. she's slimy and willing to use racism and she's an anti-semite who is documented using disgusting anti-semitic slurs. She's a rove acolyte and an insecure creature who's willing for hundreds of thousands to die for her overweaning political ambitions. Putrid and vile woman.

If he had been any other senator, the party leaders would have told him to wait and to build up his resume. If, God forbid, he manages to win the WH, we'll see how effective he is in carrying out his plans. I think that he's more Jimmy Carter than Bill Clinton. One was an effective president, the other was not.

63. lol. The SDs have been doing their jobs- going with
Obama and staying away from Hillary Flick Dukakis. Do try and pay attention. He's received over 70 in the last couple of months. Hillary Flick? -2. Thankfully, the SDs are much smarter than the likes of racist pigs.

39. Did he outdo Bush in the gaffe department, I don't think so.
Every week, it seems the Hill-shills take something Obama said, twist it and take it out of context and start screeching "OMG, HE JUST TORPEDOED HIS CAMPAIGN!!!"

Was what he said anywhere close to "Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their ... love with women across the country!" or "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere ... nope, no weapons over there ... maybe under here?"

No? Not close? Then Obama's campaign is not sunk. At worst, he'll get a small, reversible hit in the polls as Hillary does the dead cat bounce.

47. This "bitter" gaffe is..
.. really hurting Obama.

He's not gaining any votes in PA, still
in the low forties. Even worse, McCain
is capitalizing on it, and the MSM is
making it a very big negative issue for
Obama.

49. It hurts him in the primaries and is another bullet in the rethug gun
to go after him in the fall. I predict one of their stratagies is to paint him as an elitiest bigot.

78. Some believe the mask slipped
I certainly think he spoke as he thinks. Hence the reluctance to retract.

Big deal. This is who he is. You either like it or you don't. You either think he's a patronising and poor politician or you don't.

Personally i think his attack on the Clinton economy was deceptive.
I find his attitudes in general to be supercilious. So these remarks fit snugly with that already formed view.

More distressing is the gifts he keeps handing the GOP. Gifts that we will have to fight back in myriad forms once the GE gets underway. I just wish the Obama folk could see that. Wishing it away is not a good strategy.

79. "Left-wing" Democratic elites?
The Democratic "elites" are either right down the center or slightly right-of-center. There are no "left-wing" Democratic elites.

93. Hillary was just BOOED by union workers in small town PA for mentioning bittergate...
and Obama was cheered. There's once again video-taped evidence of this fact. Seems Hillary is the one out of touch. That woman gets booed more than any political candidate I've ever seen.
