MSNBC: Philly DJ said undecideds moving away from Obama due to "bitter" remarks
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 11:27 AM by npincus
saturating the airwaves over the past day there, based on his most recent listeners' phone calls. He said up until now, Obama was doing well with these voters, and they are not talking about "Bosnia-gate"- that is getting no coverage anymore. He said they were looking for a reason to vote for Obama, but have been negatively influenced by this "bitter" kerfuffle.

This guy does not seem to have a bias, and seems to be telling it as he sees it. So... what I would suggest, as an Obama supporter, that he dip into negative waters and get a quick ad out on teevee highlighting the Bosnia confabulation, and slamming her on it- before tomorrow night's debate, so it can be DISCUSSED at the debate, and remind voters of this episode. I think he needs to slam HRC on this now.

on EDIT: a DUer (Post #37) cited that he/she was pretty sure the radio host was Dom Giordano- a conservative. I don't believe that MSNBC introduced him that way, but referred to him as a DJ from Philly. So there you (probably) have it- some conservative asshole talking down Obama, probably wanting the success of the weaker GE candidate.

Nothing to apologize for, he just needs to dumb his comments down a bit for certain people it seems.

If they aren't bitter after Bushco then they'll probably be voting for McCain in the fall anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Alzheimers disease and mid/long term memory losss seems to run rampant in the voting public.

17. Who is the "Philly DJ"?
It is hard to put much stock in it without knowing more. If he is a radio call-in show about politics, chances are he is a right winger and his audience is the same. If that is the case, it is kinda like asking Pat Buchanan about his "honest assessment" of the Democratic race (which to my amazement, is done repeatedly every day). He might have his own agenda.

but I didn't catch it. MSNBC will probably play it again- I'll try to catch it if I am tuned in.

I will say that from his conversation, the inference was that his callers were Dems who had been trying to figure out who they would support.

Of course what you say may be true. But i think we do ourselves no good by ignnoring what may harm us while there is some time to effect a result.

24. Who is this DJ?
I don't have access to a tv at the moment. What is the "DJ's" name or was this a local talk show host?

I don't particularly think that for a city of 1.5 million with dozens of radio stations, that some "DJ" supposedly speaks for and can even grasp the sentiment of an entire state of 12,000,000 people. If anything, this type of crap pushes people in the city here to vote even more for Obama, just as what happened in SC.

I will try to catch it if/when it is rebroadcast and I am watching. Surely someone else here was watching- and maybe can assist.

I really think Obama should go much harder on Hillary- the Bosnia episode is the most damaging one and tailor-made for easy mass consumption. If voters are reinded that she lies like a rug, then can she really be trusted on ANYTHING she says? So, I think he ought to blast away immediately, and let this be brought up at the debate.

44. There's no shooting of the messenger.
Only making note of your OP that says "This guy does not seem to have a bias, and seems to be telling it as he sees it."

Those of us who live here in Philadelphia are aware of most of the talk hosts and their biases, again, assuming this was not the host of a music show ("DJ" - disk jockey) who has suddenly become an on-the-fly political pundit. These people ALL have "regular callers", not unlike Rash Limpballs, who will parrot whatever they are told to parrot and in fact on many shows, there are plant callers (including the use of the show's producers) who are used to "call in" to act like some random caller to make the show more "entertaining" or fill dead air when no one is calling.

My mother taped a program from the black talk radio station here yesterday (WURD) and played it to me last night. The callers were saying the COMPLETE opposite of what that "DJ" was claiming and many had some pretty rough stories and comments about Clinton and what made them bitter. One even described how he first went to Northeast High here in Philly (not sure when but probably back in the '70s) and how he asked his teachers about taking the academic courses and they insisted that he should take "shop" class instead - and this made him "bitter". And the stories continued on and on about bitterness for the next 3 hours, including pointing out the hypocracy of the $109 million dollar candidate.

I think there MUST be a careful balance about going "negative"... Through 45 contests, Obama has NOT had to do that and he IS WINNING... so why start now? The Clintons want to drag him down into the mud and reinforce what voters have been saying all along about the nonsense that politicians engage in. He has surrogates out there who can address her so he can be above that fray and talk about ISSUES. I think the general public is aware about the soap-opera saga of the Clintons and sadly, those of us following this so closely are being exposed to a magnified version of reality that is very much distorted.

The key is to undertand that Clinton HAS LOST and we are now just going through the motions. There is no way, based on the proportional assignment of delegates, for her to even get close as she will need to win 65% of ALL the remaining contests, which is the bare minimum needed for her to even TIE.

I agree Obama should be more forceful in his criticisms of Hillary, but he's already let us know that he doesn't want to engage in the politics of the Clinton years.

And as for callers to radio shows, don't you know that those people were Clinton voters and GOP operatives anyway? I've also heard radio hosts say that most Clinton supporters sound as if they're reading from a pre-approved script when they call in to complain about alleged anti-Hillary bias. Hillary's campaign has been very effective at bullying the media via people like Taylor Marsh & Larry "No Quarter" Johnson. Surely you witnessed that "POTS & PANS" fiasco, right?
