Another Kucinich "I AM THE ONLY" interview
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 08:16 PM by stickdog

Rep. Kucinich: I am the only candidate who voted against the war on Iraq and who consistently opposed it. I am the only candidate who sued the President to try to prevent him from going to war without a declaration from Congress. I am the only candidate who will repeal NAFTA and withdraw from the WTO, replacing these agreements that have cost us so many hundreds of thousands of jobs with fair bilateral trade agreements that protect jobs, workers' rights, human rights, and environmental quality principles. I am the only candidate with a single-payer plan that provides every man, woman, and child with comprehensive health coverage from whatever doctors they choose, and does so through a tax on employers that is lower than what employers who now provide coverage pay on average. I am the only candidate who voted against the "PATRIOT Act" and who has introduced a bill to repeal major sections of it. I am the only candidate who will redirect our priorities from war and tax cuts for millionaires to peace and education, including free college tuition. I am the only candidate who will make 20 percent of our energy use renewables rather than fossil fuels by 2010. I am the only candidate who will focus on breaking up monopolies, including agri-business monopolies and media monopolies.

Who could ever support such a bold-faced liar?

3. At least Dean correctly stated that he was
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 08:19 PM by ozone_man
the only MAJOR candidate who opposed the war. Granted DK has very good anti-Iraq war credentials, but it seems hypocritical that some Kucinich supporters cry foul when their candidate does even worse.

On edit: Other than that Kucinich rocks!

5. Kucinich cannot repeal NAFTA
The president does not have the authority to repeal NAFTA. That is a lie on Dennis' part, and one that he has been promoting, and still continues to promote.

7. Exactly.
Just like the president can't make gay marriage legal in all 50 states. Kucinich's plan is bold, but when he continually says he'll repeal NAFTA and the WTO - he's setting himself up for failure.

9. explain, please
I thought he could, maybe the way Bush dropped out of various international agreements.

What are the legalities, I sincerely don't know.

12. NAFTA is just another treaty.
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 08:48 PM by revcarol
5 minutes after he takes the oath of office of the Presidency of the United States, he could issue an executive order giving notice that we are withdrawing from the treaty, and BINGO!! 60 days later, we are OUT of NAFTA.

Selective memory of you guys not to remember that Bush did the same thing on an actually beneficial treaty with Russia.

This is an executive perogative, vested in the PRESIDENCY.When he says this is the first thing he will do, this is what he will do and he has that power.

On edit: the same goes for the WTO.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

6. The problem with this is
not the I AM THE ONLY, it's AFTER the "I am the only" part. That's the part I see Dean supporters not getting.

The difference betweek Kucinich and Dean is FACTUAL, not prepositional....

Most of these examples are in relation to his voting record, and he HAS a record to cite.

But that's ok, Dean's tactics rub off on his supporters.

Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 08:44 PM by OhioStateProgressive
i didn't...but Dennis is absolutely the only person running for the nomination who VOTED against the war in Congress, and voted against the Patriot Act

what is wrong with Dennis speaking the truth?

11. liar is way too strong
a good progressive like Dennis deserves better than that.

He should give Brauh credit for single-payer health, however.

16. It's satire
...A "gotcha" back at the "Dean's a liar" charge, made because AFSME sent out a brochure that said "Dean's the only candidate who opposed the war" in the title but DID say "the only major candidate..." in the text.

Kucinich (or his supporters spiced with Clark supporters) want Dean to apologize or something.
