11 Indiana Mayors wrote a letter criticizing Obama's Bitter-Gate remarks

To Whom It May Concern:

We wish to express our sincere disappointment with comments made by Senator Obama at a San Francisco fundraiser last week--comments which demeaned the values of small Midwestern towns. These views are offensive to millions of hardworking Hoosiers who strive everyday to provide for our families, lift up our communities and strengthen our country.

We embrace our faith not out of frustration but as a foundation of the values that guide us - the values we inherit and the values we pass on. We have faced difficult times. However, Hoosiers are resilient, optimistic and unwavering in our commitment to our families and country. After seven years of a president who refused to talk to us, the last thing we need is a presidential candidate who talks down to us.

These remarks also serve to drive us further apart instead of uniting us around the great challenges we face together. We need good paying jobs. We need an end to this war. We need health care for every American. But to meet these challenges, we need a president who honors our values. We need a president who stands up and fights for us, and shares our can-do spirit. That is what Hoosiers will be looking for when we go to the polls on May 6.

Sincerely,

Mayor Mervyn Bostic of Rushville
Mayor Ann Bradshaw of Brazil
Mayor Charlie Coons of Crawfordsville
Mayor Michael Fincher of Logansport
Mayor Pam Hendrickson of Boonville
Mayor Tommy Jones of Linton
Mayor Tom McDermott of Hammond
Mayor George Pabey of East Chicago
Mayor Brian Snedecor of Hobart
Mayor Roy Terrell of Jasonville
Mayor Olga Velazquez of Portage

Their constituents don't agree with these mayors.

Faux News went to rural PA and tried to get people to criticize Obama, but dropped the segment because most people agreed with him.

33. Actually, there are over 2500 towns and boroughs and cities in PA
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 04:08 PM by Divernan
There are 2,566 mayors in PA, and HRC could get only 19 to show up for the gala "One Hundred Mayors for Clinton" gathering! She hasn't learned squat from her health care fiasco, where she operated behind closed doors and never bothered to ask for, let alone accept input from the relevant House and Senate committees, chairmen and women, or staff. You can plan great events, or draft complex legislation, but if you don't communicate with the people you need to support you, your efforts fall flat. She needs to learn to line her ducks up, instead of shooting them.

Local government in Pennsylvania is a mosaic of 5,149 individual units. All were established by the state or provincial government and operate under the laws of the Commonwealth. Each unit is distinct and independent of other local units, although they may overlap geographically and may act together to serve the public.

In January 2003, there were 67 counties, 56 cities, 961 boroughs, one incorporated town, 1,548 townships (91 first class; 1,457 second class), 501 school districts and 2,015 authorities.

Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 03:48 PM by Life Long Dem
On the contrary. Out of frustration from politicians who give empty promises they embrace their faith through wedge votes. As well as for the other wedge issues.

And if embracing faith through wedge votes in inappropriate, then what is it doing in a wedge vote or on a ballot in the first place?

And it's a lie to distort the truth to deceive like Hillary did and is doing.

36. I looked up the demographics of the first town on the list -
something tells me that this town of 6,000 is not going to vote Democratic in November.

Rushville, Indiana. As of the census of 2000, there were 5,995 people residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 96.45% White, 1.58% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population. The town is the home of Wendell Wilkie, who launched a presidential bid against FDR.

42. Portage, IN has a a Latina mayor - but virtually no black people.
(Is anyone noticing a trend? Of the 11 towns in the entire state of Indiana (wow count em a whole eleven towns!) that signed a letter critical of Obama, most are tiny towns that are close to 100% white.)

Portage, IN. As of the census<1> of 2000, there were 33,496 people, 12,746 households, and 9,011 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,315.8 people per square mile (508.0/km²). There were 13,375 housing units at an average density of 525.4/sq mi (202.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.52% White, 1.45% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 3.20% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.94% of the population.
