About Snipers in Bosnia. Either Clinton Lied here, or She's Unfit for Office Due to Stupidity

It makes no sane sense put herself (and her daughter to boot!!!!), in mortal danger in order to give the troops gifts and give out candy. Elinor Roosevelt wasn't that dumb. Bob Hope was smart enough never to do that. I know that the soldiers in that zone wouldn't have appreciated it; she would have been one of their nightmares-- a totally, recklessly, unaware VIP in an unsecured zone, who they were responsible for protecting. Yes, it would have been such a gift, seeing the First Lady and young Chelsea getting their heads splattered by a sniper! Just the thing to cause PTSD.

She would have never been allowed out exposing herself to sniper fire, just to give a pep talk, gifts and candy. You don't have to do a library search on this. It wouldn't have happened. Period.

Hillary supporters: you also don't have to do "footwork" to answer this question: How many troops had killed in combat in Bosnia by 1998?

The answer: none. That's right. None!

How many have been lost since then? One. Oh, and there have been six wounded. (A bad month for Bosnia, I wish every month in Iraq were that good.) Duff it out on Google. No need for "footwork."

Clinton isn't insane or stupid, therefore: no snipers were shooting at Clinton, her daughter, or at any other American in Bosnia then. None. Concluding that she told a lie is actually respecting her (and Bill's) better judgment-- though it's a no-brainer.

Also, there are some long-running tricks in the military regarding a combat zone. If troops are stationed in a combat zone they get combat pay. So, there's good pay incentives at every rank to declaring a place a "Combat Zone." However, if you are in a combat zone, and getting extra pay, you also have to follow procedures: things like a corkscrew landing, flack jackets, and such. It isn't at all the same as what the troops call "an unsecured zone" which is where you'll have immediate sniper fire.

I pity Clinton's supporters still scrambling to prove Clinton didn't lie by trying to prove that she's dumber than a roadkill possum. Where's that voting booth?

2. But was Bosnia a combat zone back then? Did the troops get combat pay? Tax exclusions? nt

— The Balkans, designated a combat zone on March 24, 1999. The combat zone includes Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea north of the 39th Parallel.

— Bosnia, designated a qualified hazardous-duty area on Nov. 21, 1995, and treated as a combat zone as long as members qualify for imminent danger pay or hostile fire pay. The zone includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia.

8. You have a very good point.

The different zone distinctions seem to have greatly changed since I was in the military-- in the eighties. I mean, then it was simple. Combat, non-combat. That's what I remember. It Vietnam, I've been informed from what I consider a very good source that US ships used to navigate into South Vietnamese waters for one day a month so that every sailor on board could collect their combat pay.
