Keystone Survey: PA Clinton/Obama margin plummets from 16 to 6
Pa. Survey Shows Obama Catching Up To Clinton

KYW Newsradio Team Coverage

by KYW's Mike Dunn

The latest Keystone survey of Pennsylvania Democrats finds that Barack Obama has significantly slashed away at Hillary Clinton’s lead in the Commonwealth. The margin between the two: now just six points.

One month ago, the Franklin and Marshall/Keystone survey found Hillary Clinton with a sizable 16-point margin over Obama among Pennsylvania Democrats, and some at the time wondered if she was a lock to win next week’s primary. But the latest survey, conducted in the past week, finds that Barack Obama has narrowed the gap to just six points. This is poll director Terry Madonna:

“I think one of the biggest reasons for his gains, his 10-point increase in support, is because of his ability to attract new voters in the southeast. He’s picked up about 15-percentage points in the eastern part of the state.”

Clinton is still strong in the western part of the state, and Madonna believes the key next Tuesday will be the voter turnout on both sides of the Commonwealth.

It seems as though this particular poll required a login from the pollster's website to get what the actual results were (unless another aggregate poll site publishes them later), so just included the article above that is a transcript of the radio report that has been playing here in Philadelphia this morning on KYW News Radio.

In any case, this % difference is falling within the cluster of a number of other recent polls that show a 5% - 9% difference (not counting the couple big outlier polls).

6. And NOW, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has endorsed Obama!
This should make a significant difference in southwestern PA - added to Dan Rooney (owner of the Steelers), Franco Harris, Jerome Bettis, Dave Matthews, Senator Bob Casey (big influence on conservative Catholic voters) and The Boss.
Barack Obama: Democrats deserve a nominee for change
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
•(excerpt:
This editorial began by observing that one candidate is of the past and one of the future. The litany of criticisms heaped on Sen. Obama by the Clinton camp, simultaneously doing the work of the Republicans, is as illustrative as anything of which one is which. These are the cynical responses of the old politics to the new.

Sen. Obama has captured much of the nation's imagination for a reason. He offers real change, a vision of an America that can move past not only racial tensions but also the political partisanship that has so bedeviled it.

To be sure, Sen. Clinton carries the aspirations of women in particular, but even in this she is something of a throwback, a woman whose identity and public position are indelibly linked to her husband, her own considerable talents notwithstanding. It does not help that the Clinton brand is seen by many in the country as suspect and shifty, bearing the grimy stamp of political calculation counting as much as principle.

Pennsylvania -- this encrusted, change-averse commonwealth where a state liquor monopoly holds on against all reason and where municipal fiefdoms shrink from sensible consolidation -- needs to take a strong look at the new face and the new hope in this race. Because political business-as-usual is more likely to bring the usual disappointment for the Democrats this fall, the Post-Gazette endorses the nomination of Barack Obama, who has brought an excitement and an electricity to American politics not seen since the days of John F. Kennedy.

7. I've actually been surprised
at all the newspaper endorsements. Not sure how much influence they will have but I expect some percentage of undecided voters might take such into account.

11. LOL You got that right!
I get the Philly Inquirer and the NYT - but mostly to bring to my 78-yo mother. She can then "filter" it for me and will hand me articles (carefully underlined) for me to read when I visit. I get my news off the net from the online versions.

12. latest polls are showing Obama gaining ground. "Bittergate" is boomeranging on Hillary
because of her attempts to exploit a nothing issue. It will be her negatives going up (just like in the Rev Wright situation) and not Obama's.
