I think the secret service agents are already on the roads - this far away from the action.

We received a robocall last night to tell us where/when Bill will be speaking.

I'm not going. Six months ago, I probably would go to see him in a flash.

4. He's speaking at the local state university
Good luck with that! But first he is speaking right now at my alma mater (also a state university).

Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 09:47 AM by sparosnare
My uncle went to see him at the PSU campus in Altoona a week or so ago. He is voting for Hillary because he loves Bill. Messed up logic but I think a lot of people are doing the same.

6. He's at IUP right now and will speak at Clarion Univ. of PA
this afternoon. We were walking our dogs on our graveled country road this morning and actually had traffic! Well, six cars, but that's more than we see in a week usually.

Because by the time you're old enough to realize how dumb you were to pass up the chance to see him, you won't be able to.

8. Local news is reporting about potential confrontation between mayor of Leechburg & Clinton
The mayor of Leechburg said he would confront Clinton at Kittanning High School and demand the former president to apologize for the major job losses in Armstrong County. The mayor Chuck Pascal said workers lost their jobs due to a free trade agreement passed during the Clinton administration.

12. Kittanning is an hour drive from me
Clinton needs to hear it from those who were affected negatively from his decisions. One characteristic of native western Pennsylvanians is we are outspoken - so the mayor will speak his mind.

9. Unless it was Bush, I can't imagine not going to see a former Pres speak
Love him or hate him, Bill Clinton will go down in history as one of our greatest presidents. For me, being able to tell my grand daughters that I had the privilege to hear him speak, is going to be quite gratifying. My dad got to hear Truman speak and I remember the look on his face telling me about it. I want to pass that look on.

11. I do see your point about seeing a former President
I told my husband this will probably be our only chance since the big city speeches are packed and I doubt he will have much of a crowd on a middle of the week speech in our rural area.

30. You should go
It will be interesting. I'd probably go if the timing worked out (I wouldn't take off from work the way I did to see Obama get the Kennedy endorsement at AU). But if it is convenient you should go. It'll be an interesting experience, and maybe you'll take the place of an undecided voter who might be swayed by seeing Bill speak.

10. He was a few YARDS away from my house about 4 weeks ago.
Our town has a population of about 30,000. I went to see him because no national politician has ever been here before in my lifetime. I was 4 people back from the front row and it was thrilling to see a former president that close. We even got to shake his hand afterwards. There were about 800 in attendance. This is "Rushland"--very, very conservative. I think the only president I wouldn't see if he came here would be Bush. You should've seen all my Republican friends outside sitting outside their cars with cameras waiting for him to come out after the speech. They wouldn't come in but they were there! lol

We had all the SS and Homeland Security around the house. I live a few yards away from the school complex where he had the rally...even saw a black helicopter go over the house!

It wasn't well advertised in our local paper, either. The announcement to say he was coming was just a little sidenote on the front page.

15. We got home from a family birthday party at 11:00 last night
The call was on the answering machine at 8:30 p.m. It will be interesting to see what the attendance is. It is on a small college campus, but I doubt there will be many older adults skipping work to go. Pres. Clinton's itinerary was just announced on the Pittsburgh morning news channels today.

32. Well don't be surprised to start seeing Hillary bumperstickers now,
because in my area I never saw anything much but the God 'n guns stickers until after Bill came to town. I think he has swung all the Reagan Democrats back to the Clinton side around here. I'm actually for Obama. I will vote for Obama in the primaries but if Hill gets the nomination then I'll vote for her in the GE.

The problem is that I don't want to hear him slam Obama and this "elitism" and "out of touch" comments just are not true.

It shows me that it's politics as usual and I'm sick of it.

20. He didn't say one word about Obama at the speech given here.
As a matter of fact, he must've known he was speaking in a conservative area and he didn't say anything bad about anybody except the Bush administration (of which everyone is a little disgusted with even if conservative).

And that's pretty fucking pathetic. The Big Dog is the only Democrat since Truman to be elected to two terms in the White House, and you're saying worse things about him than Limpballs. And it sucks.

If he were endorsing Obama, you'd be singing his praises.

42. he spoke here early this year, I went, but it was disappointing
the speech was okay but not inspiring like his old speeches. He was an hour and 45 minutes late.

They were selling Hillary stuff by the door. I stopped to buy a bumper sticker and lawn sign but didn't want to carry they around during the speech so I asked if they'd be selling after the speech. They said yes so I thought I'd get my stuff as I left.

After the speech I didn't want a lawn sign or a bumper sticker and started listening more closely.

After the speech, I saw a bunch of women signing up to volunteer for the campaign.

They didn't sell much at the event. I only saw a girl go around once selling buttons. I didn't see any signs or bumper stickers available.
