|
... and even had him make a remake of it in some more recent sad days.
Elton's a great artist. Bruce is as well. But Bruce has America's soul in his heart! There's not many musicians that I feel vocalize the stories of the mainstream American middle class the way that Bruce has over the years! And he's still at it, albeit as an older artist. His "Vote for Change" concert tour he lead in the election in 2004 is a clear example of how he CARES to help us get the right leadership for our country for all of us!

One man wrote pop music masterpieces. The other one wrote maudlin tavern rock sung with a mouth full of marbles. No contest, imo.

They are only considered pop because they were picked up by pop radio stations.
And I support Obama too but would put Elton John on a much higher level musically than Bruce Springsteen. Yes I like Bruce too. But Elton John is the master Bruce will never be.
In fact, I suspect Bruce would likely be embarrassed if he saw this poll.

Much more diverse, a larger body of work, more top selling albums - Elton John is a master. Bruce is a star. There's a big difference.
And nothing beats Elton John's stage show.
That being said I voted for Born in the USA because I like that song better than Yellow Brick Road. But then again, this is a rather silly poll. A better one would be comparing Crocodile Rock to Born in the USA. It's silly to compare a ballad to a rock anthem.

10. Here's an interesting story about Harley-Davidson, Elton and Bruce, and their anniversary parties |
|
Here in Milwaukee, H-D threw a 100th birthday bash five years ago. Thousands of bikers came in from all over the country. It was a huge, huge event among the Harley crowd. Jay Leno and a bunch of other celebrities even rolled in. H-D threw a party on the lakefront, enlisted a few country bands, a couple rockers, and for some reason, Kid Rock, all the while promoting a super secret surprise headliner. When that headliner turned out to be Elton John, there was almost a mass revolt. People were beyond pissed. It was a P.R. nightmare of epic proportions.
Fast-forward to the 105th. They did it smart and signed Springsteen right away. Harley riders were a bit pissed, but that was because when tickets went on sale, the whole H-D site crashed in mere minutes due to the massive, massive number of online ticket sale requests. And Springsteen just played in town a couple weeks ago.
People are really pumped up about this year's party, most certainly more than the Elton John fiasco from 2003.

I would have a hard time picking any better songs than "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters", "Burn down the Mission" and "Funeral for a Friend".
But Thunder Road, Backstreets and Streets of Philadelphia, are right up there.
Picking musicians on the basis of which Democrat they prefer is so... Dixie Chicks.

|
1970 Tumbleweed Connection 1971 Madman Across The Water 1972 Honky Chateau 1973 Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player 1973 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
After that, I thought most of his stuff was overproduced and corny...
Bruce's stuff has been consistently better and political, especially the last few albums...

Are people here voting based on who the artists who recorded these songs supported rather than the actual songs? (I know: dumb question.) But really, there are a number of Springsteen songs I love, but I can't get past that overly slick eighties production on "Born in the U. S. A." in order to be able to think that highly of it. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", on the other hand, is one of Elton's best songs.
