I hope most of you do realize that Marin County is NOT San Francisco
and that San Francisco is not in Marin County. As a Californian I have found this conflation particularly annoying.

Oakland, Palo Alto, San Jose, San Mateo, Alameda, and many other sections of the Bay Area are not actually San Francisco either. Duh.

The fact that Obama's remarks are now being falsely reported as made "at a San Francisco fundraiser" rather then in Marin County (as they were) or more generally "in the Bay Area" is either:

A. Moronic geographic carelessness or

B. a purposeful falsehood to add that extra juice ("San Francisco liberal", "gay", "San Francisco values") to the story.

1. Definitely "B"
All she had to do was say "California" in keeping to the reference of "Pennsylvania".

The way she sneered out "San Francisco" like it was a disease was completely contrived MIHOP.

2. The Bay area would have been appropriate.......
Saying San Francisco was clearly code, since San Francisco is in San Francisco County....not Marin County, where the Fundraiser was held.

That's why one knows that Hillary was using a dog whistle.

It can't even be denied.

3. Why let accuracy stand in the way of marginalizing our Party for personal political gain?

4. What city was it in, exactly?
I think a lot of people know there's a difference between Marin and SF, and I don't think it would be necessarily helpful to say Marin in this context. San Francisco means gays to most rural people. Any other part of the bay area means money, except Oakland. So she played divisive politics, again, but I think people would read elitist into just about any city in the Bay area.

5. Yeah, but Marin County has those damnedable
"Marin County hot-tubbers", as George H. W. Bush put it. So I'm sure they're demonized almost as much by the right-wing. They hate upper middle-class and rich liberals just as much as they hate all the gays and hippies in San Francisco, I'm sure!*

*Note: I realize that both of these cities/counties have much more to them than the right-wing caricatures I'm (making attempts at) joking about, and I have nothing against either San Francisco or Marin County. I've never even been to the West Coast at all, but I'm sure I'd enjoy visiting that area in particular.

7. TNR repeats "San Francisco fundraiser" falsehood
"Some liberal commentators have downplayed the effect of Barack Obama's fundraising speech at a San Francisco fundraiser last week. But that's wishful thinking. Along with the revelations about Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright, his remarks in San Francisco will haunt him not only in the upcoming primaries in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, but also in the general election against John McCain, assuming he gets the Democratic nomination."
