The realization of MLK's "Dream" was not to elect a black President.
MLK's dream was about social and economic justice and peace. So all you Obama supporters out there who viciously slime and smear other blacks who do not support him, give it a break. Some pretty decent long-time civil rights fighters and social justice activists have been really smeared for supporting Hillary because they believe she will make the better President. These people do not deserve this kind of treatment by the public or the press.

4. could you tell us who have been smeared?
the only one recently who I know who have been attacked is this Bob Johnson, the guy who keeps insisting that Obama would be nothing if he were not black. As if Hillary would be US Senator from NY had she not been Bill Clinton's wife.

7. How about Clinton backers who have been threatened and called "uncle toms" by Obama's camp?

Black Clinton Supporters Face Down "Uncle Tom" Smears

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri had this to say;
In an interview, Cleaver offered a glimpse of private conversations.
He said Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois had recently asked him "if it comes down to the last day and you're the only super delegate. ... Do you want to go down in history as the one to prevent a black from winning the White House?

"I told him I'd think about it," Cleaver concluded.

Jackson, an Obama supporter, confirmed the conversation, and said the dilemma may pose a career risk for some black politicians. "Many of these guys have offered their support to Mrs. Clinton, but Obama has won their districts. So you wake up without the carpet under your feet. You might find some young primary challenger placing you in a difficult position" in the future, he added.

A fluke in the system for your information. But yours is a typical response from many Obama supporters. Jump bump your heads jumping to conclusions and ignore facts.

9. Oh, like the way HRC supporters here
viciously slimed and smeared Rev. Wright, a "decent long-time civil rights fighter" and a former Marine and a person who received official commendations from the Clinton White House? Like that?

Hmmm, well, can't say I've seen any black people treated that way *here* for not supporting Obama. Apparently it *has* happened, though, but I would hope no one here would do something like that.

Nobody said that. Nice strawman.

13. Give it a rest
Feminists that support Obama have been called disloyal.
Blacks who support clinton have been called uncle tom.

It goes both ways and comes from the bottom of both barrels.

Try to put things in perspective.

20. It should be obvious
Apparently, not to the people with whom the OP is frustrated.

I sympathize. I don't give other women grief for supporting Obama, and I reject and denounce (read: scoff and roll my eyes at) women who do that sort of thing.

23. Tough to be black and
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 08:04 AM by JoFerret
go against the grain. I do know a couple of black (male) Hillary supporters. that takes independent or contrarian thinking right now. (A year or so ago - not so much). I understand that the polls say 90% of african americans support Obama. That is a hefty majority.
How do people explain that? (Content of character or color of skin etc.)

But you are right about MLK. He saw a world and worked for a world where the best person would be president. Some would say that best person is Obama. I think he is good. Very good. And getting even better. But not yet the best.

This is not what MLK was exhorting.
