These are the regular people Obama was hangin' with in SF
I keep reading here about how the MSM is using the term SF liberal as a dog whistle (to use the term of the month)

and that the people of SF are just like everybody else. That's true, but if you haven't seen where he was when he deemed small town folk

of being those stupid Bible-thumpin', shotgun-pumpin', outhouse-dumpin', sibling-humpin , immigrant-trumpin', backwoods mumblin' , genital-itching,

inbred racists, this might interest you.

If you have google earth here is a link- http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=85476
Attached are placemarks for the huge and amazingly expensive ($25M and up) San Francisco mansions belonging to:

Fred Pavlow, Add-a-Garage, 2776 Broadway
Trevor Traina, stepson of Danielle Steele, 2780 Broadway
Norman Stone, heir to insurance tycoon W. Clement Stone, 2790 Broadway
Peter Haus, Levi Strauss heir, 2800 Broadway
James Klingbeil, of Am. Apt. Communites, 2808 Broadway
Peter Sperling, U. of Phoenix heir, 2845 Broadway St.
Larry Ellison, Oracle founder, 2850 Broadway
Gordon Getty, Getty Oil heir, 2870-2880 Broadway St.
George Jewett, Weyerhaeuser heir, 2990 Broadway

In the Haight, stencils of Barack Obama's smiling face are decorating the sidewalk. But in real life, he is turning up in more lucrative venues: The candidate will be around here on April 6, at a series of events that includes three $2,300-a-head maximum-strength fundraisers: Sara and Sohaib Abbasi are throwing a luncheon in Atherton; he'll zip up to Nancy and Bob Farese's house in Kentfield in mid-afternoon; and proceed from there to Ann and Gordon Getty's in San Francisco. (There's also a mere $1,000-a-person do at the home of Carolyn Davis and Alex Mehran that night.)

Your trusty party-animal-by-proxy has tried to infiltrate these events, but transparency seems to be fogged up. No media eyes allowed on the collection kettles; when the gifts are big, the press is barred.

On April 6, 2008, Barack Obama visited the San Francisco region, zipping from event to event all day long, from one end of the Bay Area to the other.

What? you might ask. How did I miss that? If only I had known, I would have gone to see him.

Well, there's a reason you didn't know about it. Obama didn't want you to know about it. Because the events he was attending weren't for people like you.

P.S.: Christina Orth, who attended an open San Francisco Symphony rehearsal Thursday, left Davies Hall promoting "Obama for President, Dudamel for Vice President." http://www.sfisonline.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2008/03/26/DDMKVPJT1.DTL

Obama's campaign slogan is "Change" -- declaring that he alone will change the way things are done in politics.

But what kind of "change" is this? The single most insidious aspect of American politics is that candidates often must pander to and do the bidding of the wealthiest Americans, who have the funds to get the candidate elected. It's so commonplace, we no longer think of it as "corruption," but that's basically what it is. So when Obama spends all day doing nothing but going to a series of private fundraisers populated exclusively by the wealthy, the only "change" I feel are the coins jangling at the bottom of my pocket.

And I don't like hypocrisy.

According to this article (and many others), Obama's campaign is claiming he raises his money from small donors:..

Wait just a minute there. If you do the math, on just this one day in the Bay Area, Obama went to four events, three of which had $2,300 minimum donations per ticket, and the other $1,000 minimum per ticket. Each of the events, from the various descriptions, held as many as 400 people (the Getty mansion has a ballroom that reportedly seats at least 300). 400 x $2,300 = $920,000 per event, times three events = $2.76 million, plus the other event, which undoubtedly puts him over $3 million in contributions for this one day alone. And who knows how many other similar days he schedules in other parts of the country. http://www.zombietime.com/obama_visits_billionaires_row/

Here are the real regular people, running their asses off parking all the limos

Norman Stone, heir to insurance tycoon W. Clement Stone, 27xx Broadway.
Peter Haus, Levi Strauss heir, 28xx Broadway. In 1996, Haas' Levi holdings were valued in a news report at $2.2 billion.
Peter Sperling, U. of Phoenix heir, 28xx Broadway. In 2003 he had about $1.5 billion.
Larry Ellison, Oracle founder, 28xx Broadway. In 2003 Forbes set his worth at $18 billion.
Gordon Getty, Getty Oil heir, 28xx Broadway. In 2003 Forbes Magazine estimated his fortune at $2.1 billion.
George Jewett, Weyerhaeuser heir, 29xx Broadway.

These aren't apts

The awful view from the homes to remind these people how bad they have it

Notice the weight of the ring on the right hand of one the common folk causes her to lean to one side, back problems in this area are epidemic

Obama enters through servants entrance to observe clingy behavior

Notice the diverse crowd, but only from a distance.

This is where Obama had hoped to have a private conversation to say this about small town people-
You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, a lot of them -- like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they've gone through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

I'll take the elite Obama has in his corner over the POWERFUL ELITE the Clintons have long protected.

That BCCI report didn't deep-six its outstanding matters throughout the 90s by itself.

When ANY wealthy person from San Francisco gets MORE attention and concern from YOU than GHWBush, Jackson Stephens, Dubai and Saudi royals, Bin Ladens, Marc Rich, AQ Khan and all the others who Clinton protected throughout the 90s when he deep-sixed the outstanding matters in IranContra, BCCI, and CIA drugrunning, then you should REALIZE how you sound to those of us who HAVE a sense of proportion.

26. You are on excuse #2 when the NY Times is on #3
Let's see:

1) He could not possibly have intended something so offensive and absurd.

2) But he's 100% right about that offensive and absurd characterization.

currently according to Bob Hebert of the NY Times-

3) He can't be held responsible for his offensive and absurd characterization, because he misspoke; he actually intended something more insulting.

There is no mystery here. Except for people who have been hiding in caves or living in denial, it’s pretty widely understood that a substantial number of those voters — in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and elsewhere — will not vote for a black candidate for president.
...
Senator Obama has spent his campaign trying to dodge the race issue, which in America is like trying to dodge the wind. So when he fielded the question in San Francisco, he didn’t say: “A lot of folks are not with me because I’m black — but I’m trying to make my case and bring as many around as I can.”

Instead, he fell back on a tortured response that was demonstrably incorrect. Referring to the long-term economic distress of many working-class voters, Mr. Obama said: “It’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or antitrade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

Bob Herbert: Don't Blame Obama For Calling Pennsylvanians "Bitter;" He Only Meant To Say They Were Unenlightened and Hopelessly Racist

Don't forget that in addition to the HuffPo-reported remarks, he actually did say (paraphrase) "these people don't believe the message when it's coming from a 46-year-old black guy named Barack Obama," to which the billionaires laughed appreciatively. So when Herbert says Obama couldn't come right out and say they're racist, well, he did.

we're doing quite well. however, my husband is "bitter". he's been with a major international company for 39 years. he has seen the jobs go overseas. he sees, on an every day basis, the people from india who are brought here to work for 1/4 of what americans are paid. he's not mad at the people from india -- in their minds they're making great money and living much better than they did back home. but his company and many others are making huge profits and taking the jobs away from americans.

if he didn't have a rare skill, his job would have been gone years ago.

Many "wealthy" people still share democratic views and ideas. If anything, it's quite something to me, and shows their politics aren't just about protecting their money. Maybe they care about the country and their fellow Americans as a whole. For example, I have been lucky in that my family is actually doing well, but that doesn't mean I don't feel depressed about the war and all the suffering going on in the country. Is there going to be a limit now on income in order to be a democrat? In order to have compassion? In order to care about the country? That's an absurd point to try and make.

donors and attend fundraisers in the wealthiest zip codes. I am confident neither Obama nor Clinton will be paying me a call anytime soon. I have nothing to offer in the way of cash or connections.

True story. Back when Gray Davis was running for his first term as California governor my insurance claims rep brother was invited to a fundraising event at the home of a man he had settled a homeowner's claim for and become friendly with. The man invited him because my brother had expressed an interest in attending such a function and just wanted to see what it was like. A lot of very well heeled people were there and my brother stood off to the side by himself just observing, when Davis spotted him. The candidate walked over, introduced himself, and said he didn't recognize my brother from other fundraising events but was glad to have him "on board." My brother was a little embarrassed and admitted that he was merely a guest of the host but that he would support Davis with his vote. With that, Davis spun on his heels and walked away without further comment.

Money is the life's blood of politics and those who have it have the ear of politicians. The rest of us have to content ourselves that we have the power with our votes to ultimately determine the fate of these people, but that assumes fair elections which is definitely not a given.

36. Thanks for doing the GOP's work, Sean. I swear some people on this board
write like right wing radio talks. So the poorest member of the Senate is suddenly more elite than $109 million Hillary Clinton, eh?

This is of course all an illusion -- I'm sure we could scare up photos of McCain and Clinton fundraisers like this while Obama still has an average donation of $109 and 1 million donors. People like me.

Or maybe Barbra Streisand?
Or some of the other big dogs that hunt with Bill?

Come on... this is truly scraping the barrel.

Can we get back to real issues now?
How about stopping the carnage in Iraq?
How about Darfur?
How about food riots?
How about health insurance? minimum wage? environment?

Last time I looked this was THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA... where we are all supposed to have equality.
I guess not if you're wealthy?
Oh, only if you're wealthy and you hang with the Clintons?

46. Ha!
Another Week, Another Clinton Visit

It will be sense of deja vu when Hillary Clinton comes to Los Angeles on Friday, when she will meet with donors and attend a dinner hosted by Haim Saban. The event is aimed at supporters who commit to raising $25,000 or more each at her upcoming March 24 fund-raising gala.

Clinton was just in California last week, but her supporters are aiming to beat the $1.3 million that Obama raised at his recent shindig at the Beverly Hilton. Other politicos scheduled to visit Los Angeles in the near future include John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani, who each host fund-raisers on Monday, and Bill Richardson, who is planning meetings sometime next week.

Meanwhile, "Save the Date" invites have gone out for the Clinton gala, with Saban and his wife Cheryl, Ron Burkle, Steve Bing, and Debra and Sim Farar listed as the chairs. The event will be held at Burkle's Beverly Hills home.

Other co-chairs include Susan and Scott Corwin, Kimberly and John Emerson, Carol Hamilton and David Kohn, Norman Hsu, Noah Mamet, Lisa and Brad Mindlin, Jane and Marc Nathanson and Laura and Casey Wasserman. More will be announced as the committee is formed.

Haim Saban:

In the 1990s, Saban's company became best known for the adaptations of Power Rangers, Masked Rider, VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs. In 2003 he headed the $5.7 billion purchase of Kirch Media Group, the then-bankrupt German media conglomerate.

In 2001, he and News Corporation sold Fox Family Worldwide for $5.1 billion to The Walt Disney Company for ABC - the network was renamed ABC Family Channel. Saban made about $1.6 billion from this sale, making it the largest transaction between a company and a private citizen ever.

In June 2006, he was part of an investor group led by Texas Pacific Group of Fort Worth, Texas and Thomas H. Lee Partners that won the bid for Univisión, the largest Spanish-language media company in the United States. The bid was for $12.7 billion (USD). Shareholders have filed a lawsuit over the handling of the deal.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mayhill-fowler/obama-says-no-to-foreign_b_95357.html

The San Francisco fundraiser was Senator Obama's fourth and final of the day. He had made appearances earlier in Atherton, Marin and around the corner at another Pacific Heights mansion. Even the Obama Campaign, I suppose, can never have too much money. The folks who came out on Sunday were not the very rich, even though these events were for people who have "maxed out" their donations. The very rich have long since given. The fact that so many middle class Californians are giving $2300 to Obama shows both the depth of prosperity in the state and the allure of the scent of victory.

Doesn't surprise me though. Not that most here are interested in anything critical about Obama. I just read a Washington Post article about his donors, which include 5 billionaires: Kenneth Griffin of hedge fund Citadel, Neil G Bluhm, Philadelphia casino developer, Nadhmi Auchi, from Iraq and involved with Iragi National Congress member Aiham Alsammarae, a fugitive wanted on corruption charges (with our tax money) in Iraq but living large in Chicago, and James Crown of General Dynamics and on the board at Michelle's (ex?) workplace.

A lot of people are going to be very disappointed in President Obama. I'll take a wild guess and say it's going to be the working class and not the crony class.

106. I'm having trouble sorting out the billionaires for Obama
the link I gave above to WaPo says there are five, but doesn't seem to identify them all in the article.

I've got Kenneth Griffin, Neil G Bluhm, and James Crown identified as billionaires in the article, but I'm not sure who the other two are. However, I am sure that the article doesn't mention Nadhmi Auchi or Alsammarai - even though they are billionaires - WaPo does not mention them.

My bad, I should link them here to this article:

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=25950&page=2

Sure, he's a right-winger, but I understand its okay now because Obama is uniting the country. John Batchelor gives the story about the Rezko-Auchi-Alsammarae relationship. Apparently Obama did attend a party for one of the Iraqi billionaires at Rezko's house, but he doesn't recall meeting them. So, to date, no clear evidence exists of a relationship with Obama and Alsammarae, but it's a fascinating story. Worth reading. Google how our government claimed to be looking for this guy, and he turns out to be in plain sight in Chicago. Makes you wonder.

New Poll Says Most Democrats Prefer Obama as Party's Nominee
By VOA News
http://www.voanews.com/english/2008-04-16-voa40.cfm
16 April 2008

A new opinion poll indicates most U.S. Democrats would prefer to see Senator Barack Obama emerge as the party's presidential nominee despite recent attacks describing him as "elitist."

The poll shows Obama with a 10-point lead over rival Senator Hillary Clinton. It also shows Obama with a two-to-one lead on which of the two Democrats is considered more electable in the general election in November.

The polling took place during a controversy over Obama's remarks describing small-town Americans as "bitter." Both Clinton and Republican presidential candidate John McCain responded by calling Obama "elitist."

The poll was conducted by The Washington Post newspaper and ABC News among a nationwide random sample of about 1,200 adults.

Both Obama and Clinton Wednesday released new television advertisements critical of each other ahead of an April 22 primary in the eastern state of Pennsylvania.

The candidates will hold a televised debate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Wednesday night.

Obama has won several state nominating primaries or caucuses since the nominating process began in January, and leads in the number of pledged delegates who will select the Democratic nominee at the party's August convention in Denver, Colorado.

of this type. If we don't want this, we have to demand public financing of all our federal campaigns. Yet, we don't. Anytime it is mentioned, people bitch that they do no want their money spent on political campaigns.

Obama has raised 41% of his donations from donors who contribute $200 or less, compared to Hillary's 23%.

Get real! This is our system--unless we demand otherwise.

This post is NOT, I will repeat NOT, about fund raising reform or disgust with fund raising.

This is about Obama talking about people behind their back. He thought his condescension would be

kept private and he could bond with these fat cats by making out small town America as barefoot, backwoods, rednecks.

Have you noticed all the attacks at the Lady who reported this? Obama and his supporters are upset that these words saw the light of day.

A lot of these Bay Area individuals who are rich now aren't trust-fund babies, but people who came up with a savvy idea that took flight in Silicon Valley and then beyond - people whose wealth came from sweat, blood, and tears, not from a wink and a nod. As such, I think that they aren't so out of touch that they don't appreciate the normative principles behind liberal positions as the "wealth proxy" may connote elsewhere.
