White guys can talk about black voters but only Catholic guys can discuss Catholic voters?
On "Hardball" today, Chris Matthews said that Pat Buchanan and Mike Barnicle had proven their "Catholic bona fides" (by reciting portions of the Latin mass) and therefore were qualified to engage in the discussion about the Catholic vote.

Excuse me?

Pat Buchanan, b
Barnicle, Matthews and all other manner of white folk (usually white men) have been on television 24-7 discussing, analyzing, debating, and parsing the black vote and black voters - usually with not a black person anywhere in sight to offer their point of view - and they have never once recognized the oddity and arrogance of such conversations. Yet, when it comes time to discuss the votes of a group of white people, suddenly, one must actually a part of that group to be deemed credible?

Talk about arrogance, a sense of entitlement, and tone-deafness!

9. Would you please knock it off
A dick is a dick is a dick and yes Matthews is a dick - but that doesn't mean telling the truth about Hillary is sexist.

7.  I am Catholic but, good God, I get tired of this Catholic
cabal at NBC with their secret handshake recitation of Latin prayers and supposed inside insight into how all of us think. If I am sick of this Roman superiority complex, non-Catholics would be entitled to think us a very weird breed if Matthews, Buchanan, Russert, Barnicle, et. al.,were truly representative of the faith.

8. Funny thing is there really isn't a "Catholic vote" to speak of anymore.
Probably the least monolithic voting group in the country. Damn near 50-50.

11. Old school Catholics can be obnoxious and paranoid.
That's how it used to be taught forty years ago. Things changed a lot after Vatican II in the mid-60s and they're changing again now with the new US demographics, both times mostly for the better, though not without unforeseen problems like the pedophile priests, a result of loosening up restrictions on seminarians. Before Vatican II they were obnoxious and paranoid about that, too.
