"Dean Stumps for 3 candidates" Excellent write-up about Sunday's rallies.

SNIP..."State Treasurer Nancy Farmer, who's running for the U.S. Senate against Republican incumbent Christopher "Kit" Bond; Jeff Smith, a Washington University instructor who's among 13 candidates, including 10 Democrats, seeking the 3rd District congressional seat soon to be vacated by retiring Rep. Richard A. Gephardt; and Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a former aide to Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell, who's among three Democrats vying to succeed retiring state Rep. Betty Thompson of University City.

"These people will stand up for what they believe in," Dean said, touching off one of several deafening bouts of applause from the overflow crowd of several hundred people attending a rally for Smith and Chappelle-Nadal at the Regional Arts Commission in western St. Louis....."

Dean's response to Republican criticism of his remarks there:

SNIP..."Dean replied that such jabs reflect the Republican Party's obsession with "guns, God, gays and abortion," to divide voters and distract them from more important issues, including the loss of higher-paying union jobs and the rising death toll of U.S. soldiers fighting the war in Iraq.

Republican attacks won't hurt Democrats in November, Dean said, unless they flinch
- or fail to turn out to vote...."END SNIP....

Here is a link to great pictures from these rallies today.

2. "touching off one of several deafening bouts of applause"

that's what I remember most about Dean's visits to Seattle. Not so much the deafening roars but that sometimes he didn't expect them. It seemed to me that he was always trying something different at each rally,

3. LOOK AT THIS!
From your link:

"The Republicans don't manage money. They spend it and borrow," he said, citing record-setting federal deficits of President George W. Bush's administration. "The only president who has balanced the budget in 30 years is Bill Clinton. . . . If it takes a liberal to balance the budget, we need one in office as fast as we can."

Republican National Committee spokesman David James replied that such comments were part of Dean's "recurring pattern of using divisive language."

James said such talk had been borrowed by the likely Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

5. Don't you love it?
His "borrow and spend" Republicans meme has been picked by the others now.

I was glad to see him commend Clinton on the economy. I do disagree with Clinton's agreement with Bush on the war, but the rest was good.

And ain't it about time for "divisive language" from our side? }(

4. Dean also came to Kansas City
on Sunday, where three separate events were held. I attended the one that was the fundraiser for Vickie Walker, who's running for re-election to Missouri's 50th House district. Nancy Farmer was also there, and Dean got his usual rousing welcome. There were also several people there running for office in Kansas: Nate Hogan and Thurston Cromwell running for the Senate, and Missy Taylor and Sheila Hartney running for House seats.
