My take: The "debate" sucked all around - ABC ought to be ashamed |
|
They opened with almost an entire hour of bullshit questions on Wright, bittergate, Bosnia, the fucking Weather Underground that somehow Obama is supposed to be responsible for though he was only 8 years old at the time, flag pins, "Hillary the liar", tax pledges (with "gotcha" type questioning). What a fucking waste of time. My only observation of that total fucking waste of an hour was that Hillary was rather obvious and heavy handed about trying to pile on Obama.
A couple of times Obama tried to break it up by saying that people want to hear about real issues instead of obsessing on misstatements but I think he didn't want to be seen as a whiner so he backed off. I was rooting for him to say something like, "Charley, are we going to talk about the real issues or spend the rest of the night on this bullshit?"
When they finally did get to the issues so little time was left that all they could do was answer one question apiece on the war in Irag, no real questions about health care (though both tried to get that in anyway), etc. I thought they both did well on the issues, as little as they were allowed to address them.
Fucking Charley Gibson was pathetic with his "aha, aha, I gotcha" on the "tax pledge" question, though neither one of them really pledged anything.
What I want is a real debate. Just the two candidates sitting on stools asking each other questions, answering, arguing, none of these talking head smartasses trying to make themselves look better than the candidates.
If there's another debate I'm skipping it.

I agree the debate wasted too much time trying to let each candidate bloody each other over Wright, Bosnia and bitterness. To me these issues are entertaining for the value of watching the other candidate scramble, but certainly not worthy of wasting 10 - 15 minutes of debate time. I would have much preferred the time spent on international issues like relations with Russia or China.

3. Nobody in Pittsburgh saw the debate... the Penguins were clinching a playoff series at the same time |

...so the post-debate spin is important.... at least here.

6. They SHOULD be ashamed, but they won't be. |
|
They accomplished exactly what they set out to do. A goal once thought impossible... they have FURTHER lowered the discourse of this debate.
Fuck them. Seriously, just fuck them.
Barack is right. This is a defining moment in history. But perhaps in a larger sense than he imagined. When are we as a people going to rise up against this corporate media monstrosity and say enough? At what point do we gain the right, or the RESPONSIBILITY, to take our country back. What would it take for you to say enough? What would it take for you to take to the streets? I get closer everyday.

But journalists quickly labeled the debate as "boring" because it dared speak about global warming and health care.

with "debate" in quotes in your title. Make no mistake, this was not a debate. VOTE in the ABC News Debate Poll
