18. Oh MAN they stunk up the place like a bad cigar. |
|
The first 50 minutes was all tabloid trash, "gotcha" this and "gotcha" that. I mean, Rev. Wright, and flag pins, and the Weather Underground, and that Bosnia nonsense. It was complete and total codswallop. The internet had a collective nervous breakdown, we filled up ABC's automated complaint line and the operators at Disney are all sitting around going "WTF was that shit?" and have taken their phones off the hook.

Hillary was a bit better than Obama, a bit sharper on her feet, but the first 50 minutes of the debate were GOTCHA questions, most of which were directed at Obama. It was a travesty. Not one single question about health care was asked. About 1 hour through, the first question about a legitimate issue (Iraq) was asked.

14. Our candidates did fine, the media lost by being ridiculous. |
|
It was a harder one than others for Clinton, because even though they went after Obama, they went after him because they are treating him like our nominee. That must have rankled for Hillary.

surely the democratic candidates didnt win, nor did the American people. The entire debate can be reduced to two words...."INSIDE EDITION" Tabloid television. If anyone won tonight. It was the GOP and McCain.

32. Seabeyond, all these people are totally wrong. Nobody won or lost the debate. |
|
There was nothing special or horrible about it. They both did fine. Neither had a big slip-up or a big succusful moment. All this talk about biased moderators and bad questions is silly IMO. To me it was just another debate. This one focused (for the first half) on the candidates being forced to answer questions that they hadn't fully addressed--Bosnia, Wright&Ayers, etc. Their answers were fine.
The only really good/bad moment for the candidates worked in Obama's favor (and I'm a big Hillary backer). He had a great reply to something she said on Social Security and she got 5 seconds to reply before they cut to commercial. That may have hurt her slightly. But it was hardly a knockout. (Although I can't see how Obama supporters are complaining since the big decision by the moderators tonight which may have affected one of the candidates was the decision to go to commercial at that point).
I doubt this debate will change anything, other then Obama looking foolish if he turns down the North Carolina debate after the ratings for this one come out. Any debate on network television is going to get much better ratings then one on cable, I suspect. And I think that will turn up the pressure on him to take the NC debate on CBS.

35. Hillary looked better but ABC looked the worst. Obama just looked picked on by ABC |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 12:50 AM by McCamy Taylor
It made Obama look frustrated and so he lashed out at Hillary a couple of times using GOP talking points and tactics that are not his usual style. Plus the moderators made a point about how his camp has been sending emails out to the press calling Hillary a liar. That had to get him bitter too. It was like they were trying to get under his skin.

40. Somehow I doubt that anybody will believe that Obama was the victim of unfair treatment by the media |
|
I think most Americans, whoever they support, accept that the press has been fairly pro-Obama. But it definitely may have hurt that Stephanopolous pointed out that his campaign had been doing what he said that he himself hadn't been doing. That may have been his worst moment. But I think it was offset by the moment on Social Security. I'm surprised that nobody here is talking about it--he clearly won that exchange.
