But on October 30th, Obama supporters stared into space as the mods savaged Hillary
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 12:02 AM by beyondromantic
How quickly we forget when the victim is our enemy.

Joan Walsh from Salon described the scene of the October 30th debate with Tim Russert and Brian Williams:
Joe Biden and Chris Dodd finally looked presidential. Bill Richardson looked vice presidential, defending Hillary Clinton unconvincingly against the others' attacks. Clinton looked brittle and then recovered. Obama flubbed the opening softball questions -- Brian Williams and Tim Russert sometimes seemed to offer to hold Hillary's arms back while he hit her -- but he did better later.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/walsh/election_2008/2007/10/31/philadelphia_debate/

Media Matters had to dedicate a whole story on Russert's being "Clinton's opponent" during the debate"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200711010001

The Washington Post's "The Fix" blog with Chris Cilizza reported:
. In the first hour, nearly every question and response started and ended with Clinton."

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2007/10/democratic_debate_winners_and_1.html

The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reported:
"At times, it seemed like 4 against 1, with Brian and Tim repeatedly pressing Hillary as well."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/31/AR2007103100624_pf.html

The Daily Howler noted:
the first substantive question to Obama didn’t occur until 12:27. (Before that, Obama had only been asked to comment on Clinton’s answers.) And the questioning of Obama didn’t last long. At 12:31, Russert posed an overtly hostile question—to Clinton, of course.

should make Obama supporters act differently.

Nobody gives a shit how Hillary supporters react. She's lost the nomination. Get used to it.

42. Nobody's holding votes for ransom
I'll vote Dem. of course, but I won't work, (work as in canvasing, phoning, or donating) with spiteful people who constantly insult me and who act more like fans than like supporters making reasoned choices. Of course, many Obama supporters are not like that but many are. So if he's the nominee, as seems likely, you get him elected. I'll sit out this one at the national level for the first time in many years.

But, I thought Obama did a good job and that Clinton did a good job of fielding dumbass questions. I don't think it was appalling. I think it was embarrassing for ABC.

I mean, you have to expect a few questions like that, but they just went on and on and on (and on...). And I was really horrified by the attack stance of both moderators, particularly Stephanopoulos. I walked away from it thinking that they must both be die-hard Republicans.

I think they were rude to both Clinton and Obama equally and the stupidity of the questions was almost insulting.

You're absolutely right - you're the flip-side of my argument, you are just handling more logically, LOL (and I admire that!!). They both did do well tonight and it is certainly an embarrassment to ABC. I'm just so sick of the media overall and to me tonight was a perfect example of everything that's wrong with it.

30. I agree and never ever watch it for actual information.
I can't believe how much better informed I've been since I stopped trying to extract information from broadcast or cable news or fishwrap. It's sad in a way because I used to love opening my paper and to sit down to watch the news. But, that was a long time ago before the pod people bought up all our outlets.

31. It's really sad.
I don't really know where to go for information anymore. I surf the internet and if I do pick up something from a "news" site, I know I have to check at least 2 or 3 other sites to get a balanced view of the situation. Most of my news comes from blogs and alternative sites. Not even NPR and PBS are safe anymore, thanks to the Bush Cabal.

I don't watch TV anymore at all - it's even worse than online and I don't want to listen to someone who's been chosen for the job based on their looks rather than on their research skills or intelligence.

And the paper...ugh. I still read the newspaper because it's a habit I can't give up, but it's getting harder and harder to keep reading. I can't read the local one here - it's just a GOP echo chamber - so I rotate WaPo, NYT, La Times, SF Chronicle and so on to try to get some balance.

Such a sad situation - whatever happened to an independent press, one that tells the truth, no matter who gets dirty in the process? What happened to real news, not salacious scandal reporting? If I win the PowerBall one day, I'm hiring Keith Olbermann, Jim Lehrer and Ashlee Banfield to start a new channel, LOL.

How about issues? When was the last time, besides the 2nd half of this bullshit debate, has Hill approached or talked about anything besides Obama?

She is sorry.

Everyone should calm down and have a memory longer than a goldfish. The front runner gets hammered. It's life. Obama is now the target and they zeroed in like they did to Hillary for months.

35. There are more than 1 important details
There is the question: "Were any of other candidates pressed on eithe real or trivial questions at all?"

Judging by the press' accounts, it was all Clinton from the start. Even the questions posed to the other candidates had to do with Clinton in a great part.

37. IIRC in October less than 10% of DUers were supporting Obama.
There were a lot of polls here where Kucinich, and later Edwards, had far and away the most support.

Hillary never caught on here all that well. She was under 10% too, IIRC.

44. Thank You.
This is why I have NO SYMPATHY for Barack and his supporter's this morning nor do I believe the "concern" from his supporter's that last nights debate was bad for the Party.

What a JOKE their outrage is today. What a friggin joke! They CHEERED when Keith Olbermann did a special comment against Senator Clinton based on nothing more than smears as his justification for doing so. But NOW they are worried for the Party - HA! bullshit.

Thank you so much for this thread, good job! K&R
