Any "bounce" Hillary gets from this "debate" will be overwhelmed by the anti-ABC shitstorm that is already brewing.
There's a precedent for this. Think back to the Vegas debate which was stacked with Hillary partisans in the audience who booed Edwards and, to a lesser degree, Obama, whenever they criticized Hillary. It took half a day, but, it must be said, with the help of the netroots, the reporting quickly turned to the debate about the debate and the pundit-spun result became a footnote.
The shortcomings of that debate were tame in comparison to this one. The Pat Buchanans of the world would have us believe that the Ayres/Weatherman conversation is going to rise to the level of Rev. Wright and BitterGate as a result of tonight, but I just don't see it. When Hillary's main supporter in Pennsylvania is out there complaining about the "gotcha" nature of the questions, it's a clear sign where the post-debate discussion is headed. Georgie and Charlie are owed a spanking for this and they'll get it.

1. Any questions will work; it's the answers that make the headliines |
|
The point is to evoke the candidates, to get them off the boilerplate responses. They did that.

9. Thats why the moderators are supposed to be experienced journalists |

who are supposed to be better at bringing out the nuances of the major questions/answers than you or I am.

5. I have to say, that was a new lowpoint for the corporate media |
|
Gibson with his shallow efforts to revive supply side economics was as pathetic as anything I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot).
I'd love to see Krugman write about that bit of proselytizing.
