I think I've figured out The Clinton's campaign purposes - and The Clintons

With the math as it is - being that Clinton cannot overtake Obama in delegates without severe levels of controversy arising within the party, many are asking "Why is she still in this?"

I have been trying to think of the answer to that question for a while and I think I have figured it out.

The answer seems to be two-fold:

1) To bring this thing to the convention
2) To damage Obama as much as she can along the way

This may be her "Hail Mary" pass as to how she could secure the nomination. She absolutely must amplify any negative focus placed on Obama in the eyes of the general public so that her campaign has an argument to make on the floor of the convention.

That argument, the only argument which her campaign could possibly hope to cling to, argues that because Obama has been tarnished so much in the eyes of both Democrats and the general public as of late, and because the electorate is so divided, it should be decided that a unity ticket will prevail with Clinton at the top of the ticket.

The fact that her campaign is even deciding to pursue this strategy - and therefore hoping that said tarnishing will occur, speaks volumes to the character of the Clintons.

They are selfish.

They may indeed have a great amount of caring and empathy for Americans who are suffering and would love to find a way to help them through politics or otherwise.

But first and foremost, it's about them. Their place in history, their wealth, their success, their power.

After that first need is fulfilled, they'll perhaps put a little more focus on the citizens of this country.

1. They're in league with the GOP -- McCain is a friend whom they see as a centrist
That's all this is about ... they know they can't kill Obama, so they're going to try to prop up McCain. I wouldn't
be surprised to see her campaign on his behalf.

2. I don't think she'll go that far
But it is true that she'd rather have Obama lose to McCain than her lose the nomination in the first place.

3. Oh, I think she will
I'd have laughed hysterically at that idea a year ago. Now, I feel confident she's nothing but a right-wing tool.

6. She is, but
if she ever saw the opportunity to get the White House without being one and thought it'd increase her chances, she'd be that as well. Nothing should be put past her and nobody with an even reasonable alternative (McStain not being one of them) should vote for her. Every ounce of your cynicism is well-placed and fully justified.

She will do what she has to and be who she has to in order to get to the White House, and anyone who believes she gives a rat's ass about the common citizen (or about anyone other than herself) is either a.) not paying attention, or b.) a hopelessly lost fucking idiot.

4. I do.
Melody is right, but so are you. Melody is right in that Hillary is a RW tool, and you're right with your "she'd rather have Obama lose to McCain than her lose the nomination in the first place." If Obama loses, Hillary doesn't have to run against an incumbent in 2012.

Put nothing past that lying, war-approving bitch. Randi Rhodes was right about her.
