1. Gail Collins today (on ageism). Obama gets hissed. |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 09:34 AM by JoFerret
Obama acknowledged knowing Bill Ayers, the former member of the Weather Underground who refused to apologize for the anti-war bombings during the Vietnam era. But then, he volleyed back, Hillary’s husband had pardoned some Weathermen.
“This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago ... somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old,” Obama complained.
No fair blaming the 8-year-olds!
It’s amazing how often age comes up in this campaign, even on the Democratic side. This week, while he was speaking in Philadelphia, Obama told the story about how he went to a sparsely attended gathering at Greenwood, S.C., feeling tired and slightly depressed until a local woman appeared, crying out: “Fired up and ready to go!”
“She’s seen some years,” Obama said, describing the scene to a room full of well-fed politicians and union officials. “She’s maybe close to 60 ...”
Oh, no! Some middle-aged women in the crowd started to hiss. The battered Obama campaign aides must have been swooning. First the gun lovers, now the baby boomers.
Seniors vs. juniors.
Think of it as a welcome break from gender and race.

5. Some of Obama's appeal IS his relative youth. |
|
So pushing the fact the old timers running opposite him were screwing up the world way back when he was a little kid is probably a plus for him.

17. And there it is: The Rovian Moment. |
|
Hillary Clinton has spent the entire year of 2008 mocking Obama as an empty suit and a pretty speech. She has attacked him on non-issues, hired protestors to carry signs in front of campaign offices, and sent her surrogates to publicly question every aspect of his character. Unceasingly.
Yet, when one person suggests that youth is okay, you make call it "divisive" and sarcastically suggest that his call for unity is insincere.
Do you expect his supporters to sit back and take it? Dream on.
Obama can unify this country, but not those people who choose to continue the politics of hate.
Bring it, JoFerret. I'm not Obama; I don't have to play nice, and I will not.

Cracked "unity". Sounds about right.
Do you really see Obama as a "unifier"?
I know many do. Can't say I see it.
My response that so enraged you was to your post #8 that I found a tad offensive and divisive.

but if it was my scepticism about Obama and his followers/ supporters spreading unity and love on DU then I see no reason to back off from it. I find the Obama tactics very divisive.
Or was it some other received insult that had you in such a tantrum?

he has played to perfection throughout the campaign. Most politicians do. And the more they say they are not then the more they are probably signaling their plans.
Clinton did her share of it last night.

By then - Hillary will have toughened his hide and should he be the nominee he will do just fine.
He may have floundered last night but his is a damned good candidate and ten times more patriotic, tougher and smarter than any GOP candidate of recent vintage.
