Quelle surprise! David Brooks gives ABC an "A" for last night
http://campaignstops.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/16/no-whining-about-the-media/index.html?ref=opinion

Three quick points on the Democratic debate tonight:

First, Democrats, and especially Obama supporters, are going to jump all over ABC for the choice of topics: too many gaffe questions, not enough policy questions.

I understand the complaints, but I thought the questions were excellent. The journalist’s job is to make politicians uncomfortable, to explore evasions, contradictions and vulnerabilities. Almost every question tonight did that. The candidates each looked foolish at times, but that’s their own fault.

We may not like it, but issues like Jeremiah Wright, flag lapels and the Tuzla airport will be important in the fall. Remember how George H.W. Bush toured flag factories to expose Michael Dukakis. It’s legitimate to see how the candidates will respond to these sorts of symbolic issues.
...
Final grades:

ABC: A
Clinton: B
Obama: D+

5. I misread that second paragraph as "too many giraffe questions"
I had visions of Gibson and Stephanopoulis rambling on about giraffes for half the debate. From what I've heard, it wouldn't have contributed any less to political discourse if they had.

9. Thanks David. Pat Buchanan thought it was great too!
No word yet from The Club for Growth or the John Birch Society, but I'm sure they will give ABC high marks.

10. OK, the clearest absurdity of them all is this...
"We may not like it, but issues like Jeremiah Wright, flag lapels and the Tuzla airport will be important in the fall."

in other words, "The media is going to pump up ridiculous symbolic BS over substance in the fall, so the media has to pump it up now to prepare the candidates for media." Of course, the media could just stop, now AND in November.

Man, what School of Journalism did this moran graduate from? I would have thought eliciting a discussion of important issues was more in keeping with a journalist's job...

15. PNAC also gives ABC an A+. More war! More war!
Thanks ABC for helping John McWarmonger. We know we can count on you to help sell the next war once Johnny McBombsaway is in office, just as you helped Bush sell the Iraq war.
