Obama strikes out. DU followers blame the pitcher.
Everything he screws up - from lying about owing his existance to the Kennedys to his conception to a Civil Rights march in Selma, from claiming he had no idea what McClurkin, Wright, and Rezko stood for to assuming no one that mattered would hear his sneering dismissal of small town America - everything he screws up is excused away by his loyal band.
Charlie Gibson did not write Obama's mumbled talking points.
George Stehanopolis did not force Obama to give babbling anti-answers.

He struck out. Deal with it.

I am saying it beyond delusional and hypocritical to say that "maybe someday, hopefully, if Hillary is really lucky the media will start painting Obama as a liar" when your candidate just flat out admitted to being one. On a live television event no less.

Do you not thing in the GE her comment is going to made into a Republican attack ad which will be aired ad nauseum in the fall? Maybe interspersed with some Bill "I did not have sex..." clips. And this to an electorate of whom 60% already think she is dishonest?

But its Obama who will painted as the liar. And Hillary will be President.

Do you not see the problem here?

34. he struck me as surprised that such idiotic questions would be asked
He wasn't at his best. But he did as well as anyone could be expected to do, given the fact that he was in the equivalent of a 3rd Grade Playground.

I think he would have been within the bounds of reason to just walk off the stage at some point and say "When you're ready to ask adult questions, let me know and I'll be back."

My sense is that he was both bored and annoyed by the idiot questions he was being asked. He's responded to the Rev. Wright question so many times, I'm sure he was thinking "You idiots. Why are you rehashing something we've already gone over ten thousand times already?"

His response to the Ayers question was totally appropriate. The only thing more appropriate would have been for him top reply "George you are a moron. WHy are you even bothering to repeat this meaningless 'guilt by association' line that Hannity has been desperately spinning for months?"

And I think what he was really simmering about was Hillary's desperate and mean spirited and party-hurting repetition and amplification of those right-wing slurs.

Come one, the debate was a waste of our time.

I can't believe I am worried about the world's supply of oil peaking, and the subsequent economic and social consequences, and these bozos ask about lapel pins.

There are riots over food, due to the rising costs, partly due to our use of corn for ethanol. That is a disgrace.

Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolus showed us that they are completely out of touch.

I mean... when exactly did Mr. Obama expect this stuff to come out? Did he think he would never have to answer the questions on the minds of 60%+ of the population.

(I am actually being conservative with this 60% number. Giving Barack the benefit of a doubt. If you add together the GOP + Democratic Hill supporters it's really much higher.)

Normally I don't resort to such snarkiness, but the level of discourse here has rubbed me raw. And I am not a supporter of either candidate. I really can't imagine what you supporters are doing to each other, and what it must feel like to be a Clinton/Obama supporter and read the tripe posted here.

If you can't see how biased ABC was last night then you're obviously going to be very content with a McCain Presidency.

Of course the way Hillary has been campaigning while at the same time praising McCain it's no wonder why her followers would support the right wing agenda more than the Democratic candidate.

116. Yeah because Clinton "dealt with it"
When she whined in the Russert debate about getting questions first or whined about the media being against her and went on SNL in effect to slam them for it.

We've seen how the supposed composed leader Hillary deals with things. And to be fair she has never had a debate as slanted against her as the ABC one was against Obama.

30. Obama didn't strike out
He did a decent job. He really isn't a great debater. He hasn't been this entire primary cycle. But some of his supporters' comments about the debate format and the moderators is a little overblown.

Yeah the format sucked and the moderators were bad but this was one of the few times that the media didn't treat Obama so nicely, or fairly. He should count his blessings that the media has been so kind up until this point. It's only going to get worse if he's the nominee. I think Obama handled himself really well. Clinton had to answer some awful questions too, and I think she did a fine job too.

Obama, and his supporters, need to have a thicker skin. This is politics after all.

Piss poor, no spinning it. Nothing else to say. It's disappointing to everyone on this board, whether you're a Hillary supporter or an Obama supporter. He did a lousy job, and he's our front runner. It's very disappointing. Maybe he learned a big lesson last night. Maybe he will stop with his arrogant speeches and get down to preparing himself enough to handle the heat. He was disgustingly weak. Hillary was superior in every way. No denying it.

62. Is glibness in debate a qualifier for the presidency?
How often in the course of a term of office does a president debate with people? Presidents have meetings, conferences, summits, give speeches - they don't debate. Most times, they don't even talk to the press - that's what they have press secretaries for.

A president needs to have ideas, and needs to communicate those ideas in the best way he knows - with FDR it was his "fireside chats"; with Bill Clinton it was press conferences. Obama shines with formal speeches. He knows that.

His first State of the Union will be one for the record books.

The questions, to both candidates, in the 1st half of the 'debate' were awful. The format, with so many commercials was demeaning. Hillary won nothing. Looks like it ends next Tuesday. Check the latest Zogby PA poll.

I actually don't know between Obama and Clinton who won or lost, whatever that means. I do know that I lost 90 minutes that I will never get back because that farce was not a debate, it was two assclowns playing Gotcha! It was not a debate. It had no substance. That crap last night made Russert's prior effort look good, and that was no easy task. You too should be outraged at the idiocy displayed.

I hope you find solace in your snottiness and pretending that this changes anything. Barack has an insurmountable delegate lead and everything Ms. Thang, the MSM, and the GOP have thrown at Barack he has batted away like lint, often gaining in the polls. As it turns out, the Clintons aren't all that after all, and Americans long for something other than the nasty, bitter, divisive politics the Clintons represent.

82. I think he had already "struck out" for you.
So it's rather moot for you to attempt to explain the lack of journalistic ethics on the part of the ABC News staff, particularly when it has already been shown the received many questions from the Right.

Obviously you don't consider it a conflict of interest for a former Clinton staff member to serve as a primary moderator in a debate with a Clinton family member present - particularly when the questions about "associations" and their effect are being lodged at candidates.

By the way, I haven't seen many post-debate polls which indicate Obama struck out. . .even if most of the audience, judging from responses on ABC News' own web site, was appalled at the ridiculous line of Hannity-inspired questioning.
