Breaking: PA Voters Reject Clinton’s Old-Politics Attacks, Switch to Obama
From My Barack Obama

Pennsylvania Voters Reject Clinton’s Old-Politics Attacks, Switch to Obama

by Caitlin HarveyThursday, April 17, 2008 at 02:41 PM

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Former supporters of Senator Clinton from across Pennsylvania today declared that they have switched their support to Senator Obama due to Clinton’s increasingly negative campaign tactics. Their announcements come on the heels of a debate in which Senator Clinton launched a series of misleading, personal attacks and reports that her campaign is now running a nearly 100% negative advertising effort on television.

The newly minted Obama supporters noted that Senator Clinton’s tired, say-anything attack politics had let Pennsylvania down for decades and praised Obama for putting forth a positive vision for change and focusing on the issues that matter to them.

The switches were highlighted by a new web video unveiled on PA.BarackObama.com.

I originally was supporting Hillary,”says Susan Petro of Allentown in the video. “…I became really pretty disappointed in her campaign – I think that’s when the switch took place.

Check out the video here

Petro was joined by other Pennsylvanians from around the state who shared the following stories:

Victoria King, Johnstown: “You know, sometimes it’s not what you say; it’s how you say it. Barack Obama is focused on the issues that matter to people. Hillary Clinton just exploits them. Barack Obama is the right type of leader to bring our country together and that’s what we need right now.”

Cindy Scales, Johnstown: “Hillary Clinton’s negative campaigning really turned me off. Her negativity is not doing anything but separating Democrats at a time when we need to come together. People don’t need that message. What they need is financial security, good jobs, faith in this country and a hopeful future.”

Dar Thomas, Pittsburgh: “I really wanted to vote for a woman, but what really changed my mind is how divisive she is. The more I watched her, the more I saw how her campaign uses cheap shots to attack Barack Obama. She has employed these win-at-any-cost tactics. That shows she really knows political gaming, but she doesn’t really know that Americans just want someone to help them solve their problems.”

Dawn Moyer, Collegeville: "The negative campaigning had a lot to do with why I no longer support Hillary Clinton. She is the old Washington politics. We absolutely need a change. I believe in Barack Obama and I believe he is what our nation needs."

Elizabeth Harrison, Glenside: “The policy of personal attacks is one that for years have made me view Washington in a very bad light. Why can't we act like grown ups? I began this race as a Hillary supporter but when the kitchen sink mess began, I began to get discouraged. The sad part of all of this is that Mr. Obama has not once attempted to make personal attacks against her even when it could have sincerely been to his advantage to do so. I want something different for my children from Washington…from America. I think deep down inside, we are all ready.”

June Esser, Creighton: “I was really confused about whether I wanted Hillary or Barack. But I have decided I am voting for Barack. Each time he is hit with mud he comes back with a sincere and reasonable response. Enough of these political games."

6. Go Obama
Key elements of the MSM establishment, the political establishment and
the ideological right and cynical left know how big a threat he is to them.
That's why Hannity can join forces with Stephanopoulos and Clinton can channel Rove.
Because in this issue, they are all on the same side.

If you want to keep playing that game while this country nose-dives, go ahead.
Vote Clinton. If you understand how important this is, the candidacy of Barack Obama
has never been so worth supporting. We need to turn this debacle into a
renewed determination to get rid of the forces strangling this country's capacity to right itself.

83. An interesting thought, but Joe Republic would have a stroke.
The Republican party has invested nearly two decades in vilifying the Clinton brand. Were they to put HRC on the ticket with McSame, the majority of those who still vote straight-ticket Republican would vote for Ron Paul, the rest for Obama - as their brains melted.

They should run a McCain/Clinton ticket, just to see what happens, and I support any effort to do so. They would have to run on a campaign of "More of the Same - Guaranteed" or simply "Squared Times Two - Eight Ways to Sunday".

Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 02:17 PM by Quixote1818
That was probably her worst mistake of this campaign. That was what she pointed to in the video and it's something I have heard several times. In fact my Dad voted for Hillary then turned against her after the McCain comments.

"I used to be a PC person, now I'm a proud MAC owner, I made the switch."

People ARE tired of the the establishment and got ya politics.

This is the path Hillary chose and she will pay dearly for it. She didn't have to go down that road, but she DID, it was of her own choosing. Just like Barack mentioned last night, she was attacked back in the 90's and now she is the aggressor.

76. Hmmmm, but the school paper at the University of Pennsylvania has just...
gotten behind the Hillary campaign. The college kids in PA have seen through the smoke and mirrors and are coming around to get behind our real candidate: Hillary.

Obama has become just another pretender to something new...has become in fact just another old time politician.

Hope and Change, undefined, just won't cut it today. He never defines anything.

80. But the Comenian the school newspaper of Moravian, the sixth oldest college in America backs Obama
One editor says vote your conscience never mind the "waste your vote crowd" and we need more third party candidates like Nader and Paul for real democracy.

Who says education in America is dead? PA school news papers are mixed just like the state, but they're thinking about it and asking their reader(viewers) to think about it too. And that is their job.

Wasn't that ABC's job during the debate too? I wouldn't want to have to bring that report card home.

79. New Obama Supporter!
Don't do a whole lot of posting, but I had to throw my hat in for Obama.

Been a huge Wesley Clark supporter, then Dodd and now, I have to say Obama is the man. Hillary has turned me off with her smug attitude, negative campaigning and support for the bankruptcy bill, NAFTA and being very tight with all of the Wall street bankers (the original CitiGroup Democrat).

The guy just makes so much sense and has the right ideas. Im on board.

84. So they've voted already?
Reminds me of when Bush talked us into a recession at the beginning of '01. He said it so often, it became true. Guess O. is hoping that this will become true in PA by repeating it.

Standing Room Only at Obama Town Hall in Erie, PA

By astral66 - April 18, 2008, 3:09PM
I just got back from the town hall meeting with Obama in Erie, Pennsylvania, held at the Penn-State Behrend Campus sports arena. Tickets were sold out early yesterday (they were free of course, but limited to the arena capacity).

...One man stood up and said, "We have lost a lot of jobs here in Erie, and it's quite all right with us if you tell people that we are bitter." That brought the whole crowd to their feet in applause once again, and Obama said, "That's the biggest response we've had all day!"
