Daley releases statement on Ayers.
http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/04/daley_dont_tar_obama_for_ayers.html

Daley accused Hillary Clinton and other critics of Obama's association with Ayers of "re-fighting 40 year old battles." And the mayor noted that he, too "know(s) Bill Ayers" and has "worked with" Ayers on city education reforms.

The mayor released the following statement:

There are a lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And one more example is the way Senator Obama’s opponents are playing guilt-by-association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill Ayers.

I also know Bill Ayers. He worked with me in shaping our now nationally-renowned school reform program. He is a nationally-recognized distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois/Chicago and a valued member of the Chicago community.

I don’t condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40 year old battles.

1. Isn't Daley a Clinton supporter?
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 04:15 PM by rurallib
Seems to stick in my mind that he is. Wasn't his brother in the WJC cabinet?
Edit to say I did some searching and admit to being very wrong. I thought I had heard that around New Year's and it stuck in my head as a real anomaly. I apologize.

3. I don't think so
I could be wrong, but I assume he is for Obama. Pretty sure Rahm is the only holdout from Illinois, unless Daley is not a superdelegate.

6. plenty of people have stuff in their past that could be held against
them. Hillary was a republican. I don't suppose that counts now. :sarcasm:

9. thank you, your honor.
it makes me want to pull my hair out that people continue to see chicago as some sort of frozen in amber political museum piece. we have a great city here- vibrant with a solid economy, meeting our problems head on. like they used to say about atlanta- too busy to hate. too busy to nurse old grudges.
thank you larry johnson and sean hannity for the chance to remind people that chicago is a democratic city of the deepest shade of blue. a place where a lifetime of commitment to social progress and justice matter more than being young and irresponsible when you are young and irresponsible.
i, for one, tho, do not see what the weathermen did as heinous. how far are you willing to go to jam the gears of the meatgrinder? look around. none today are. and so the killing machine goes on unabated.
