McCain the way that Edwards was totally cowed by Cheney in that famous VP debate.

No hit on JE - Cheney is terrifying, granted, but Barack just seems too nice, academic, whatever and not able "do in" his opponent when its vital he do so.

3. Hell McLame won't remember the difference between Sunni and Shi'a
Obama will make him look like a doddering old fool.

Which he is.

4. as for "doing in" his opponent, he took a pass on Clinton's Bosnia comment last night
Hillary was again explaining the divergence between her story and the truth. Obama declined to follow up on that. He's a better man than I am.

13. Not only that - she just said that she had said things that she knew were wrong
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 07:24 PM by karynnj
ie she lied. That is a big admission - going after it - after the story played out for at least a week and then returned with Bill's comment wasn't going to win points. I think HRC lost as many points on that as she is going to lose. In addition, it would be kicking her after she conceded she lied. That is NOT classy.

I think that Obama is for a top politician an average debater - but I saw McCain in the Republican debates, he was probably at about the same level at best. They both can come across as very likable. What Obama will have in his favor is ... the issues. Even with Snuffy asking the questions Kerry tore McCain apart when they had a joint appearance shortly after Crocker and Petraeus came to Congress last September. Obama will practice for the debates - as even John Kerry did. I would be surprised if Kerry wasn't part of the team helping him - because he is a great debater and because he likely knows McCain better than anyone on our side.

15. You make a good point, Obama will have the issues
People talk about how McCain is looking good in the electoral college right now. Let's just wait until we have a nominee and then voters can decide when it's McCain vs. Obama.

5. He is restrained with Sen Clinton because they are in the same party and if you go after
her too much then she gets the "you're picking on a woman" backlash.

6. Some people convieniently forget that he has had to hold back on Hillary...
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 06:16 PM by tokenlib
She has become the victim too often. When Edwards and Obama were perceived to "gang up" on her--she got sympathy votes. After the tears in NH, she got sympathy votes. If he had gave her what she deserved last night--a lot of voters--mainly women would have accused him of misogyny and rallied behind her. Obama has had to tie one hand behind his back in dealing with Hillary.

With McCain--aside from showing him respect for his war record--he can cut loose..

7. Obama stuck the shiv in twice BIGTIME and it was so smooth some of you missed it.
The 'Hillary HAS been through this before with her baking cookies remarks' and knew the spin was BS then same as now.

And the Weather Underground pardons by Bill.

Both were devastating hits back at Hillary.

Clinton also lost bigtime when she was forced to admit that Obama CAN win against McCain. THAT lying to the supers about Obama can't win was her biggest reason for begging them to let her stay in the race.

9. Why, because he's not kicking another Democrats ass and running her into the ground?
You know Hillary would use her victim card if he did.

But don't you worry. When the time comes, Obama will kick some ass. You are dealing with a brother, now. Chicago politics will win the day.....but the difference between Obama and Hillary is that Obama's got integrity. His goal is not to tear the Dems apart by disrespecting and attempting to destroy members of his party, his goal is for Democrats to win in November.

If you can't understand the difference between say anything about anybody to win, versus win on your own merits until it's time to deal with the real opponent. Then you should vote for Hillary...cause what you see now, is gonna be the same thing. And considering how McCain seems to be better at dealing with folks who are negative and ending up looking the better for it, Hillary, just like she is now, would lose in November too.

Here. Read what these debates were actually for! http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_frenchie_080417_the_super_duper_dele.htm

10. He will hit back hard. He's being respectful of Hillary so she can't play the victim.
She always gets more support when she's seen as the "poor little girl." He won't hold back against McCain. He made that clear.

11. I thought Edwards kicked ass in the VP debate.Whereas Obama will never
survive a real debate.
All they have to do is ask about taking Iraqi money from Auchi.Who Obama denies ever meeting.
Or his handgun banning stance which he denies he ever took even though is handwriting is on the questioneer.
Or about Wright who Obama denies ever knowing gave inflammetory sermons.
I think I see a pattern here.

18. No review I saw said he "kicked ass" - at best he held his own
I think most of the debate will be on issues - not that minutia. Obama and Edwards each had their moments in the 2008 dates - both good and bad ones - Edwards deer in the headlights when asked for (I think) someone he admired was poor. I think Biden was by far the best in 2008 - and you see that it didn't translate to votes.

12. It is a valid question
but I really think Obama will do fine. Cheney is an evil ruthless S O B. McCain is a tired angry old man who is easily agitated. The debate last night, although exhausting to watch, was probably good for Barack.

19. Understandable but realize that OBAMA is intentionally holding back for GOOD Reason...
and it shows up in the polls as people viewing him favorably while Clinton is getting bashed by the public....I personalyl think he realizes that it is bad business to attack another democrat....he is very smart...I strongly think his game plan will change when he enters GE mode....he will be an attack dog but a unique one so that he doesnt loose respect from his core. Should be interesting.

He will be fantastic
